If it is the original radio, and if its a Mk2 Galaxy, then the radio code may be printed on the tailgate hand grip recess ... crazy but true

I had this on a 02 plate Galaxy. It turned out it was the ELECTRICAL water pump - also known as the run on pump. These usually last to about 100k - mine was at 89k. It can give a clue that it is about to go by a harsh wirr AFTER you have turned off the ignition. If you can hear a soft whirr after switch off then it may be running normally. If it isn't working then there are localised areas of overheating within the engine block. The steam escapes by the expansion bottle, and it looks as if you have a slow leak There is a good how to on replacing this pump elsewhere on the site. Part was about £100 from VW. Or £150 from Frauds - guess which I bought? Replacement completely fixed the problem

Since some a***hole in an red Golf GTi decided to overtake on a bottleneck section of road and sideswipe my offside, I have had a problem with a flickering xenon on that side. Occasionally that headlight turns off altogether, but will re-ignite immediately if turned off then on again. First of all - do you still have the original Ford Stereo fitted? The DVD only works if its receives a 12v signal from the audio unit, so if anyone has messed with that, that could be your problem. This also means the DVD player only works when the radio is ON. If the radio is on, then you can turn on the DVD using either the remote control ( if you have it) pointed at the sensor at the bottom of either headrest screen, or by pressing the console button <Screen> for more than 10 secs. Once playing it will then play for a short time after the radio is switched OFF before switching itself off. You won't get DVD soundtracks through the radio speakers unless you connect them up with extra wiring - although this is relatively easy to do as the MB-8000 has standard audio connectors fitted to its rear. Or you can connect an RF transmitter to one of the headphone sockets, like you would with an iPOD. The MB-8000 is not the most versatile player - it won't take CD's. It will play some DVD recordable discs, but can be a bit picky. It will only play Region 2 pre-recorded DVD's, and cannot be made multi-regional. And if you want to check the fuse in the MB-8000, then you have to dismantle the whole centre console by taking out the screws that hold it to the floor. You will then find the 4 screws in the cubby hole are holding together the plastic cowl, a metal frame, and the signal processing unit, all above the actual DVD unit. If you are unlucky the signal processing unit will have blown and that is several hundred quid from Frauds

I have several MFD's: Versions A and C are retrofits and neither plays an audio CD. I also have one factory fit (communicating with a full FIS display between rev counter and odometer) which I have never taken out, which I have always assumed was a G revision ( in a 2004 car) which also will not accept audio CD's. I suppose it could be the TMC unit which helps - I have never bothered with fitting that as I was told the traffic information it provides was of questionable accuracy. Although I struggle to understand why an external box should enable internal CD playback. It's more likely its the 'LATE' G that is the key - nobody else I have chatted with has an MFD1 that plays audio CD's. I have retrofitted the more expensive adapter you quoted from Ebay, so there is 3rd screen DVD play on the MFD screen - although it IS distracting when driving, so usually I use it for audio throughput only. Of course the MFD units need a VW rather than a Ford (Visteon) CD autochanger in the rear boot pocket. I assume there is no confusion about that as a separate issue. Although that is where kebrina's VHS player lived before someone swapped it out for a DVD autochanger ( ie his Galaxy has never had an audio CD changer for the head unit)

The slot in the sat nav unit is for map CD-ROM's only. It will not play any kind of CD, DVD, manufactured or burned Do you have a DVD player in the console between the front seats where the headphone sockets are? If not then you Gal came equipped with the VHS system and somebody removed the video unit from the boot and switched for the disc autochanger you have now.

The MB-8008 DVD player is the one used for the Mk3 ( 'True Ford' ) Galaxy's from 2006 onwards. For those Galaxy's that are rebadged Sharan 's ie Mk 2 ( 2000 - 2006 ) the DVD player unit is a Visteon MB-8000

If your radio is the ORIGINAL unit that came with the car then the code should be typed on a label lining the hand hold cutout on the rear tailgate - I thought that was a really clever idea - sadly mine had the code there from the factory but unfortunately the radio had been swapped at some time in the past :D

Even better - you can now get 'false cassettes' that take an SD card and will play that. Yellow plug with just one single purple wire leading into it? That would be the gala (speed pulse) wire. Necessary for the (VW derived) satnav option on MkII Galaxy's ( but not for satnav in MkI Galaxies as they use the ABS signals). Also used for the automatic volume control that increases Ford radio volume as the car speed increases. If you are not bothered by either function, then it is entirely optional.

That is why you need the new facia part as suggested above - it is the facia for the satnav system and is double DIN instead of 1.75. Alhambras and Sharans also come with this one as standard to fit in the VW Gamma separate radio and an in-dash CD player. Although I have to say the wording in the reply from bj2004 above seems suspiciously familiar. If there was such a thing as 'cut and paste' on computers I might start to wonder whether one of my previous answers had been used....LOL

Any of the Ford headunits would be a straight swap - 3000, 4000, 4050, 5000 or 6000 I'm not certain about the 6006e ( which has a CD multichanger built in ) as it might not have the connection for the rear multichanger - but these are harder to find. If you switch to the Radio Navigation System ( built in SatNav with screen ) then it certainly will not attach the current rear multichanger, and you will also need a new facia as it is a slightly different size. Also remember that if you have a Mk 2 Galaxy, then all the above Ford headunits are slightly modified with a 'rim' to fit the square facia, whereas standard Ford headunits ( for Mondeo, Focus, etc...) are curved and lack that rim. So you need to make sure that any replacement is Galaxy specific to fit properly.

I don't believe there is a separate manual for the boot CD changer. Certainly instructions for mine included in the one 'Audio' manual covering a variety of head units and the changer

I routed the GPS 'horsepill' aerial out from behind the radio, wire along the top back of the glovebox, then sat it under the plastic by the small quarter light in the left front wing. The other place if you have a magnetic base on your aerial is on top of the crash bar that runs the width of the dash. Hope that helps

Without getting it all out to have a look I think it is solid purple. In a setup using Ford standard audio units it is the wire that ends in the yellow connector ( which only has one wire coming from it in a standard setup)

Of course the standard multimedia fit for a Galaxy MkII is a Visteon MB-8000 DVD player, not the dashboard mounted SD-8010 I've attached the generic manual for this - you will note it uses a different remote from the Galaxy in this form I've also not managed to successfully play a standard CD in this unit, although the manual suggests you can. If you want to play US ( Region 1 ) DVD's then I just happen to have a Region 1 MB-8000 - it claims to output NTSC, not a PAL signal, although it does play DVD-R OK

gavtheoldskater is not talking about the dash vents, but the flaps inside the air ducting that direct air flow either over the heater matrix or the air con evaporator. If one of these has stuck and is permanently directing air over the heater matrix (and it sounds quite possible from your description) then you will need your entire dash out to fix it....

Almost forgot the answer to your second question - the CD changer cable is a special Ford fitting so won't fit an aftermarket unit ( or even if you swap a factory SatNav with your existing 5000 ). So you will lose your CD changer if you switch to anything other than a nonsatnav Ford factory unit

They fit - but the blanking plates at the bottom of each column have a 2-3mm gap at the bottom, and every switch above them is correspondingly a bit tight - but they do go in the facia. You could try sourcing replacement switches from a scrapped Sharan or Alhambra as these are the factory fit switches used when the double DIN stanav units are fitted to Galaxy's

Those headrests are NOT Mk2 Galaxy original fit. They have the yellow/right/red AUX ports below each screen - on the Mk2 Gal these are in the floor console However the main wiring plug from the middle does look like a standard Fort fitting Anyone know if these are Mk 3 headrests?

The air inlet is inside the sill - but it is a relatively loose fit and there is no filter of any kind. I think positioning it here just saved on putting a filter in the inlet ( bits of road can't get in but air and water can). I wouldn't be surprised if it drew in water if you drove through deep water - but not if it was just a standard wet road. What was the deepest flood you hit?

All the ford factory fit units are 1.75 DIN or thereabouts For a Mk II Galaxy you can easily swap the existing facia for a double DIN facia available from Fords. The part number you need is F1319217. This is used in factory fits for the SatNav option which is double DIN, it's also standard fit facia for VW Sharans or SEAT Alhambras. Only
