  1. its a size 30 or 32mm nut from memory you should just undo it like any other nut!
  2. most of the codes are from sensors on the gearbox i think although i try not to get involved in autos they are stressful in my experiance p0700 transmission control system, mil request- circuit malfunction p0715 turbine shaft speed sensor - circuit malfunction p0730 incorrect gear ratio maybe gearbox fault or somethinbg else that links these sensors, sorry cant be much more help, advise do not take to mr clutch.
  3. look mr clutch is a rip off and yes hes lying to you, go give him some shit and let us know how you get on?!
  4. no not really buy a new or second hand one is by far your best bet!
  5. sounds like brakes or something stuck underneath on discs maybe, hard to tell without looking!
  6. what makes you think its the compressor, that should move freely as long as the ac is turned off , it works on a clutch that only engages when you turn the air con on,
  7. Mr clutch say they skimmed the fly wheel on sight, the car was dropped off at 8.30 picked it up 1.30-2ish could this kind of work be done in 5-6 hours, thanks for the help it takes a good 4.5 hours to change a clutch and flywheel, personly i think there taking the piss and ripping you off, i had a mate that went there a few years ago and paid an absolute fortune for a gearbox repair, well over
  8. looks like you have some wear left on these what are the inner pads like and are all the wear limit wires ok? your right about the disc limits 21mm front and 8mm rear, you measure the disc but often you get a lip on it i would see how big the lip is and go from the smallest width where the pads have contact with the disc.
  9. what codes do you have?
  10. no you should not grind a flywheel, sorry i cant help you on the dual mass or not problem however if i had to guess i would say yes it has
  11. no you dont there is no primer, fill the new filter with diesel and start the engine and let it tick over for a few mins , dont rev it, if it cuts out during this time (which it may a few times) then restart it but do not use the accelerator, and she will be fine.
  12. The belt is indeed automatic ternsioning but tensioners are very crude devices, simply a large spring and pulley. When they fail you either get no tension as the spring snaps or a lack of tension as the spring weakens over time. Its therefore highly unlikely to be excess tension on the belt - far more likely worn bearings in the alternator causing it to seize or stick. remove the fan belt and spin the pulleys , the only one that wont move is the one on the crank, the rest should be free, if you having the smoke come from the alternator pulley it sounds like you need a new alternator, not just replacing the bearings.
  13. buy a new starter!!! takes about 10 mins to change it.
  14. see whats on timing belt cover and match the engine code, three letters eg anu -90-bhp, auy-115bhp, asz-130bhp, asz1-150bhp
  15. take the number off the old pump!
  16. Just for the record. On 2 days ago I topped up the Power steering and the light has stayed off ie only comes on when when I use the indicator to turn. The light was coming on on some certain roads (hills) around where I live that I drive on almost every day and since i topped up the power steering fluid it hasnt come on.Maybe a co-incedence but I am as baffled as the rest of ya. topping up the ps level definatley did NOT resolve any problems you had with indicators, its more likley a faulty indicater stalk or some wiring near to it, i have a feeling your problem will be back!!!
  17. i would only take to a main dealer as a last resort, a good back street garage will half the costs of a main dealer! the problem is not likley to be the over run pump, also the bottom hose should be cooler than the top hose as it is putting the cooler water back in the engine to cool it, if the fan is not cutting in i would run a live to the fan to test it works , if it does then there may be a fault with the sensor or maybe you do have air behind the sensor as this would also stop it working, the best thing to do is drain the water system and refill with with the proper amount of coolent in it, have you recently put in radweld or anything simular as this stuff can cock up water flow?
  18. you will need something like vag com and a lead i think it will be a can-bus lead? checkout http://www.ross-tech.com/ this will read it no worries you can download it for free if you search for it, then just buy a lead that will fit, the plug is below the steering wheel above the accelerator pedal, the problem will probably be a dodgy wire or a seat belt tensioner but if you plug it in you will know for sure with vag com, hope this helps....
  19. ok i doubt it would be a thermostat or a water pump, chances are that "the mrs" has cooked the engine, mines very good at wrecking most cars i give her! if i was you i would drain the system and start again, i take it that the engine was cool when you put the water in as this could crack the head if it was still hot, anyway drain and refill the water system start it up and see what happens, make sure the water system builds up some presure but not excessive and that you dont loose any water, check the exhaust and make sure the water does not come out that way, check the oil for water and the water for oil, if the fan cuts in and out again without loosing any water then chances are its fine, if it doesnt i would be thinking of a head gasket (time to take to a garage) for a second opinion, ive never had a problem with air locks on galaxys,
  20. i would have thought it was a bit hot , i thought it should cut in at about 91-92C? although you could be getting a false reading by a few degrees, if the car is running fine i wouldnt worry about it to much!
  21. hi im not 100% sure but i had a simular problem with mine that turned out to the door locking mechanism (the catch) itself, luckily i had a spare from another so i could test it first!
  22. as long as you have regular services or atleast oil and filter replacement regularly it will last for well over 200000miles, i change oil and filter on my diesel van "51 Plate" every 6 months and full service yearly, its done 215000 miles doesnt smoke at all and starts on the button, you cant change the oil and filter enough on a diesel, hope this helps
