  1. Hi all any ideas? The mrs just rang me to let me know the '51' galaxy tdi wont start as there is no lights on the dashboard what so ever, apparently the central locking works fine and the battery terminals are tight. OK she has just rang me back and said the car has now started and everythig is ok, does anyone have any ideas to what this problem maybe? do the ignitions on these have problems cos if they do ive never known it? any help appreciated i dont want this to happen again when shes got the kids with her! Thanks

  3. hi, ive just put a new engine in a 51 plate tdi 90ps with 311000 miles on the clock, thats not a miss print its got 311000 miles on it so i dont think you will have any probs with that milage, i would take a look at the service history to see if its been looked after, you cant change the oil and filter enough on diesels, twice a year is fine, and like gregers and malcom say, check to see if the cam belt has been changed if not this will need doing...
  4. you can tell what the engine is by the engine code anu = 90 auy = 115 asz = 130 asz1 = 150 hope this helps
  5. sounds like a wheel bearing to me is there any play in the bearing? if you cant find it it would let it progress...
  6. ive known cars to run rough having a faulty temp sensor, the car thinks its warm and so doesnt run whith the auto choke if you know what i mean, its a long shot but i would test the sensors with vag-com and see if the reading are correct just to rule it out?
  7. hi i would say the window is due to the switch in the back, the central locking, if all the fuses are ok it wont be a fuse you may need to reprogram the remote to the car, if your bulb keeps blowing then there is a short somewhere which you will need to trace back to the fault
  8. i have come across this before when a new brake light switch has been fitted incorrectly, its easy to fix just follow bus boys instructions and start again and see if that works
  9. sounds to me like you need to go down to qwikfit and tell them you want it sorted as they seem to be at fault, there is useually a sticker on the slam panel that tells you the amount of gas and oil your car needs...
  10. nice comment i knew the injectors were different but didnt know about the size of the intercooler etc, its something ive wondered for a while so thanks for that.....
  11. plug it in and diagnose it thats the only way you will know for sure, as seatkid says its probably a speed sensor but as there are four of them (one on each wheel) you will never know which one it is without plugin it in as for the air-bag light it could be the steering ring or a loose connection or even the seat belt pre-tensioner....
  12. no i dont but i might think about changing them if they are bad, an mot tester will fail them if they are bad..... is it just where they are perished...
  13. hello mate i spoke to the previous owner he said he had the same problem last year he had the thermostat changed,new seal on the exspansion cap had the engine pressure tested and it was fine, maybe it is the water pump it is a 115 bhp and i did notice in the exspansion tank that the top hose doesnt have a constant flow of water it just drips out even when i rev it up. if the thermostat is open you should have a supply of water running out the pipe back to the expansion tank as you say, i would agree that either the thermostat is faulty, or the pump. only way of knowing is testing the thermostat.
  14. sounds like a vacum leak or siezed callipers but if the pads were changed they should of noticed this and told you, so i agree with the others and go for the leak... let us know when you find the fault
  15. run alive test and see if you are getting a read out on the rpm, if not the problem will be the crank sensor, ive had a few of these latley on various cars, engine runs fine until its up to running temp then it all goes tits up........ warm the car up first

  17. does it crunch going up into 3rd gear or going down the box? the locking problem is probably the lock itself, does it work on central locking?
  18. you could better off with an ebay 2nd hand one if you looking for a cheap fix
  19. im afraid not and if its the one that goes round the back of the engine its quite a nightmare in my experiance.....good luck
  20. my galaxy does suffer a bit going up the box 1st to 2nd and to 3rd, going down gear is sweet, ive just put some dexron 3 in the gearbox and its not quite so bad, i dont think the sensors have issues but saying that ive just replaced 2 !!!
