  1. last time i experienced the same symptoms, it turned out to be the alternator bearings, try taking off your aux belts and then see if the noise has disappeared?... doing this will rule out quite a lot of things.... HTH Phil
  2. everytime i have seen this i have resolved it 100% by replacing all vacuum pipes including the pipe inside the ecu replace all pipes with silicon as they last longer dont squash easily and dont internally collapse under vacuum
  3. i also have one and im in haverhill
  4. I would change all the vacuum lines, this is usually linked with both hunting and with turbo causing limp mode. also EVERY time i have seen 65535 - Internal Controller Error this has been caused by just aged vacuum line INSIDE the ECU, its only a length about 10-15 cm long, replace all your vacuum lines with silicon pipe instead as it lasts longer and is cheap, and does not split and crack with age. Wbr Phil
  5. Guys, Does this Affect only the MK2 or are there other makes this affects? Phil
  6. well im thinking i will try and fit a webasto heater to mine, i cant get hold of a D3wz ECU 2nd hand at a decent price and d5's are generally too expensive, but the Webasto Thermo Top C is a 5kw pre heater an is more readily available. Any one else Retro fitted one of these?, what was you experience? Phil
  7. Hi, my aux heater ecu has decided to fry itself, has anyone an ECU? Or a D5W that they are considering to be lighter of? Thanks Phil
  8. Nice Fix :-)
  9. That is because the K Line of the aux heater is not connected to the cars wiring loom, if you want to run vag-com on the heater then you can by connecting the vag-com k line to the blue and white cable of the heater and connecting -v to vagcom signal and ground and connect +v to vagcom +supply, if you want more info with a drawing of the connections just ask and i will make one for you, but it is possible to connect it bypassing the car's loom. 10. Hi Nige, I can confirm the MK1 IS a Dumb Unit, it does have a control unit but it doesnt "lock out", it tries 3 times then stops trying until you turn off the ignition and remove the key, then the unit resets it's try counter. Also due to it being a Dumb unit you CANNOT interrogate it via Vag-Com, only via the Eberspacher diagnosis tools. The Mk2 However CAN be interrogated via Vag-Com and WILL "Lock Out" after 3 failed attempts to start, can be diagnosed via vag-Com and reset via Vag-Com. Hope This Helps Phil
  11. ahh Mirez, you beat me to it :-) Phil
  12. My MK1 Alhambra certainly doesn't, im wondering if TIS is displaying that as it is needed if you have the factory "Parking Heater" Upgrade, you know the clock is replaced from the 2 button to the 4 button to allow it to be turned on "on demand" even when the car is not running? Phil P.s. Although i am going to be fitting the pump anyway :-)
  13. Check This link out as a starting point TDI Club Forum, but this issue is generally related to the relay 109 problem, the poor running could just be a knock on effect of the relay not tripping in. Vag-Com would not report the relay issue as the relay powers the ECU so if the Relay is NOT switching ON the ECU then there is nothing to log or to record the event, if that makes sense. Hope This Helps. Phil
  14. oh yer forgot to mention that one mikej, also another one it to make sure the towing hitch cover is fitted as water has a direct path through that and onto the belt. Phil
  15. Hi Peter, I have just stopped mine from doing this, it is also more noticable wet damp or wet. You need to replace the power steering belt, it may just need tightening but i found this has just delayed the inevitable. HTH Phil
  16. while we are this subject of tyes, i am looking to replace 1 of my axles tyres, now i have 195 65 15 on currently. below is a pic of my fuel filler cap, and as can be seen 3 tyre sizes can be fitted to mine, also note 2 are ReInforced and 1 is not ReInforced, prob due to the width to spead the load across. as i have steel rims, im thinking i will fit the 205 60 15 on these rims (i doubt the 215's will go), Oppinions much appreciated, good or bad. has anyone else got 205's on steels or even 215's?? Phil
  17. i completely agree that tyre fitters "Assume" the tyres fitted are suitable, and never check any system to confirm, this is bad practice, isn't this why we take our vehicles to the "Professionals"? rwtomkins, you could be right about the sidewalls not being stronger, what i meant was that due to the increased tyre pressure this in effect makes the tyre as a whole stronger including the sidewalls, meaning less sideward action on cornering :)
  18. i have recently had the same, but on the fuel filled flap is a sticker that states the tyres needed and does clearly state rf (reinforced), when i brought my alhambra it had been used as a taxi with NON Reinforced tyres....???, dont ask me how that passed the 6 monthly taxi MOT test... shocking really to think that my wife and kids could have been in that with the monthly shop and the tyres give out... i noticed it when i took it out the first time and it was like jelly on ice especially when cornering due to the sidewalls not being strong enough to stay put. i have Avon CR322 195x65xr15rf (not the Enviro model). and to be honest they are great, stopping on ice and snow nicely last winter and perform very well in the wet., would buy again. Just thought id add to the knowledge share and share another of the frightfull stories we constantly hear with garages and the like. :)
  19. contact VW (they are cheaper than frauds) you want part number 1J0 906 381 A this is the new Grey Relay, i just read it off my reciept as i brought one 2 weeks ago cost me
  20. No glow plug light is deffo relay 109 as marinabrid has pointed out, i have just replace mine and cost
  21. Hi Jayton, If you look the otherside of where the droplink bolts, you will see that each side of the base of the shaft is flat, use a spanner on this to hold the shaft still. HTH Phil
  22. Hi Maddragon, you would be better off with http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=130398295531 as the one you linked to is a complete square fit and i dont believe it will fit in the top curved opening in the galaxy, the one i have linked to will deffo fit as it follows the same contour as the original. HTH Phil
  23. This is by design, imagine you lock your car and whilst walking away putting your keys in your pocket you accidently press the unlock button the car unlocks and you dont realise this has happened, but since the door has not been opened within a set period of time i believe is 1 minute, the system assumes it was an accident and relocks itself. HTH Phil
  24. H, I had this problem about 2 weeks ago and i thought the same, cam belt idler roller, BUT i removed the alternator belt and run the car with it off for about 2 mins and the noise had gone, i replaced the alternator and now she is quiet, turns out it was the alternator bearings that were shot. HTH Phil
