Spring Madness! - Lock/barrel Spring
frogeye replied to frogeye's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Mary, I've tried to upload a couple of pics of the spring and housing. My problem comes with trying to get the spring located whilst pushing the paddle bit down above it. The times I have succeded in getting it back together there is a huge amount of friction in turning the key - I feel like cutting the 'lug' bits of the spring in half as it seems to be them that are snagging on the sides of the barrel whilst it is trying to rotate. Any guidance would be great. Thanks. Chris -
Hi, I've been dismantling the door handle barrel to try and sort out a few locking issues (ie swapping the passenger barrel with the driver side barrel) and have had a hell of a time with the spring inside the mechanism (ie the one under the paddle bit) Has anyone got any top tips for easy ways of doing this. Thanks in advance. Chris

Engine Cutting Out When Hot!
frogeye replied to Gee's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Gee, I had a similar problem with my 1996 2.0l gal last summer. After forking out on new plugs, leads and a pair of coil packs, thoroughly cleaning the idle control valve - all to no great improvement, I tried unplugging my MAF sensor (as suggested somewhere on this brilliant site) and the problem was sorted. I can't remember if I may have disconnected my battery (and shorted the leads) to reset the default values or not, but I shoved the MAF lead in a plastic bag (to keep the contacts clean) and drove around like this for a couple of weeks with no problem. I then bought a new MAF, swapped them over, connected it up and it continues to run very well. The MAF is definitely worth checking. Good luck Regards, Chris -
Engine Won.t Idle? Changed Lots
frogeye replied to daveheggie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi Mike, I had a similar problem with my 2.0l Gal last year. After having changed plugs, coil packs and a couple of cleaning attempts at the idle control valve, suddenly solved the problem by simply unpluging the MAF sensor. I guess it was giving duff readings to the ECU. With it unplugged the ECU drops into some default mode that is a lot closer match to the signals that it should be sending. I bought a replacement MAF of ebay (I think) and swapped them over a couple of weeks later. So far so good! I can't think it is to do with the relays (as I had issues with relay 30 with my non starting 2.3 Zetec Galaxy last summer!) Good luck! Chris -
Hi, I am shortly going to embark on lubricating my wiper mechanism on my 99 2.3 zetec auto gal, one thing I've never been too sure of is whether the wipers curve upwards or downwards - the two gals I have are fitted differently from each other! Thanks in advance. Frogeye

Hi gavmck, I had this same problem with my T-reg 2.3 zetec auto galaxy last summer, after finding this site and following this excellent relay 30 changing guidelines I sorted the problem in a hour one morning. This was after the car had spent several weeks at a local garage getting the ecu diagnosed etc..etc. Link to the relay 30 post: http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...ost&p=68423 Saying that, when I got all the relay holders opened out and just gave relay 30 a good squeeze that seemed to do the trick, although I went ahead and changed the relay as I had already bought one. I also changed the other problem relay whilst I was in there (cant remember off hand which one - fuel pump?) I seem also to remember that the relay 30 may sometimes have a different number stamped on the back of it, i guess double check on this site or see which relay corresponds to the position in the diagrams on the post above. Good luck. Frogeye

Coil Pack 2.0l Mk1 Gal
frogeye replied to frogeye's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi, Well the new coils packs went in and new leads, but sadly the problem still is unchanged! I recleaned the ICV with some carb cleaner this time and shown no real improvement - I think I will get on to Ebay for a replacement ICV (thanks galaxy20) and see if that does the trick, after that I suppose I'll try replacing the lambda sensor. My exhaust sounds like it may have a small blow out - is that just the misfire making it run rough and sound different or could it be causing the problem? I'll post back next weekend with further developments. ps There is a guy near Bourne, Lincs who is breaking half a dozen galaxies for those around this neck of the woods. He does list a few items on Ebay and good prices. -

Coil Pack 2.0l Mk1 Gal
frogeye replied to frogeye's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Well I tried cleaning up my idle control valve this morning, it did seem to be a bit stiff so have loosened things up fairly well with some WD40. Took the car for a 2 mile test drive and everything seemed to be sorted - but picked my daughter up from Brownies this evening (5 mile trip) and idle started playing up again (ie stalling when using clutch approaching junction etc). Have to keep revs high use hand brake etc - all a bit tricky. Saying that though, by the time I was back home from the trip, the gal sat and idled beautifully at the traffic lights. I tried at Halford for a coil pack last night - optimistic I know but it was late!, they obviously didn't have it but the lad on the counter says that Central Auto Spares also didn't have it on their system (which Halfords apparently are coupled up with). I will try disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting after an hour to see if something needs to be reset in some way. Thanks for the tip about Vag-com (Chromedome) I thought that the ECU may be some common part and still store information somehow - no chance of that! Cheers, Frogeye -

Having spent a bit more time reading through older listings - could this be an idle control valve issue? I will certainly check this in the morning -

not too sure where this thread is heading!! I don't want to duplicate old questions, but with out being able to view pdfs or jpgs with potential solutions to my galaxy problems find myself in a chicken and egg situation!
