Timing Belt Replacement
derekod replied to derekod's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have just been looking at timing belt tools from sealey VSE5951and VS4840 I dont think there is much between them. Are they just different quality as the VSE5951 can be purchased for half the price of the VS4840? I know I have the option of buying the VSE2356 but I have not come accross a supplier that sells both that and the tensioner adjuster 303-1053 -
Has anybody got any pictures up or a video of replacing the timing belt on a 2002 AUY engine, I would like to see how tight the clearance is once the engine mount and timing belt covers are removed. I know that there are videos on youtube, but they are usually of a passat or a removed engine.

I am surprised that there has not been one reply to this question. I have seen a poor quality video on you tube relating to this and it was in a foreign language.

When is fine tuning of camshaft needed with the PD endine, is it just for in between timing belt replacement? The reason I ask is that I was just looking at a video on youtube. Surely if a new belt is replaced and timed correctly there is no need to check the torsion value with vcds software.

Am I best to go with EDGE Turbo Diesel 5W-40 FST at the next oil change as both oils are the same price!
-
This topic has more than likely come up before, but how important is it to have the pd spec engine oil in the 1.9tdi? I have replace the oil in mine but it is with the castrol edge 5w30 FST spec, I had tried to rerturn it to my local jobber as I did not notice the VW 505 01 on the can and was told that is what we would sell for it. As he was not to keen to give me a refund as the one I meant to get was not on the shelf. I know that the EDGE Turbo Diesel 5W-40 FST version states the VW 505 01 spec. Will it make that much of a difference leaving it in? are we going overboard trying to find the exact spec for the car?

Is there enough access when jacking up the car to replace the steering bellows on a 2002 Ford Galaxy 115 tdi without having to lower the cross member, clearance looks tight to secure the inner part of the bellows while I was replacing the brake pads?

2002 Ford Galaxy Diesel Soot Smell
derekod replied to derekod's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
As far as I know the booster heater is not working, but it is possible that it is attempting to fire up. The last time that I had al the codes reset I heard the heater running for the first time and that only lasted for about three days, and then it smelt more like a home external heater running on kerosene. I will remove the fuse and see if I notice anything. -
I have a 2002 Ford Galaxy and i have noticed from first start up when cold there is a diesel soot smell from inside the car while driving from cold, I have looked around for an exhaust leak but not found one, and I do not notice the smell when the engine is hot. The odd thing about it is that it smells overpowering at times that I will have to open the windows to leave in fresh air, but when I open the bonnet to look for the leak I do not notice anything unusual. Has anyone else expierenced this?

My 2002 Ford Galaxy stopped blowing air on positions 1 and 2 of the bower switch, which indicates to me that the heater resistor is gone. I pulled out the resistor and checked the resistor readings, it shows resistance between (1 and 4) and (2 and 3) but did not register any resistance between (1 and 2) or (1 and 3) or (2 and 4) or (3 and 4). When position 1 and 2 are turned on the A/C light turns on with no blower function and outer fan on radiator runs. When positions 3 and 4 are turned on the A/C light disengages and will not manually turn on but the blower runs on 3 and 4. I presume the A/C not working is tied into the Heater element which I would not have expected, or else their maby an underlying problem with the manual heater control panel? I have ordered up the heater resistor and hope it sorts it out.

Hydraulic Or Manual Tensioner?
derekod replied to derekod's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Based on my build date of 28.1.2002 I should have the hydraulic tensioner version. What is the specified replacement interval for the hydraulic tensioner unit.I had my timing belt replaced at 128,102 miles when my waterpump nearly took out the engine, caught it in the nick of time.It now has almost 180,000 miles up on it, I know the hydraulic tensioner unit or idlers were not replaced at that time. The Ford part no. of the tensioner replaced at that time was 1119021. -
Hydraulic Or Manual Tensioner?

Just logging in to <a class="bbc_url" title="External link" href="http://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleSelection.do" rel="nofollow external">http://www.etis.ford...cleSelection.do</a> <br><br>and entering my registration number states that it is build date as 28.01.2002<br><br>does not verify the engine code just says Diesel 1.9TC (115PS) can I take it that this will be AUY spec?<br><br>Which would mean that I have a hydraulic tensioner based on what you have said.<br><br>The odd thing about this which adds more confusion is that when I was at my local Ford Dealership and they looked up the Timing Belt for my registration and the hydraulic tensioner did not appear on the screen which showed the Timing belt and Tensioner.<br><br><br>I think I should have got him to write down the part number for the tensioner so I would know for sure.<br>I was going to order up the parts online to save some money but now I think I might have to check with my local jobber to see if he may carry both in stock.<br><br>I would hate to have to go to the bother of stripping down the timing cover first just to verify! -
Hydraulic Or Manual Tensioner?
derekod replied to derekod's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
But Is there a way to verify before I go down the route of purchasing online, I have been to my local ford garage who gave me a print out of instructions and the instructions illustrate that there are two types, mechanical and hydraulic? but it does not specify which engine model has which type. There appears to be a little bit of confusion, on which model do you think has the hydraulic tensioner? My registration certificate only lists the engine number as 2Y08922 but does not list the engine code. Where is the location of the engine code and is it handy to see? On the europarts site it appears to list both for a 2002 Ford Galaxy 115 http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Ford_Galaxy_1.9_2002/b/Nipparts/p/Car-Parts/Engine-Parts/belts-chains-and-tensioners/timing-belt-kit -
Is there a way of knowing if I have a hydraulic or manual tensioner before having to remove the timing cover to verify on my 2002 Ford Galaxy 115? I believe it is the AUY engine type.

Should the A/C compressor on a 2002 Ford Galaxy 115 with manual controls cycle on and off or is it of the design where it continually runs, the reason that I ask is that I have never noticed it cycling off.

Aircon Charged But Declining Fast
derekod replied to Barlidge's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
For some reason I could not remove the quote from my reply! Trying a second time I have the same problem with my 2002 Galaxy had it drained and recharged about two years ago and it would not hold the vacum nicely, there was no sign of any dye found anywhere. After a long journety over the weekend it was not blowing cold air any more so I had it vacumed down and recharged again same thing not holding the vacum for long but it did not stop the system from recharging it. Lasted for 3 days then I found the leak at the top of the condenser on the left hand side close to the condenser -
