Must have different model Ian, I cannot see any fuse box/relays in front of the battery. Anyway not sure yet but think might have found problem added a few fuses to the empty spaces and it seems like the compressor is now pulling in. Really would love to find the correct fuses chart for my model so I can do 1 more final check of what fuse goes where. Simon

Thanks Ian, Looking now B) Simon

Well according to the manual its fuses 21 (25amp) 22 (30 amp) 27 (25 amp) 29 (5 amp).... worst bit is they all say Air Conditioning by them no other info. Lost as ever on this 1 as all these fuses are in place and look fine. Simon

Since the topic's air con any idea's why mine is now blowing warm air ?, I think mines got climate control got seperate temp controlls for front and back etc they show Lo but still warm air.... with the engine running there is normally a lot of belt noise from the engine bay as if the compressor is running but now its very quiet just a tappet rattle. I was messing with fuses yesterday but have checked the A/C fuses which appear fine when I unplug number 22 I think the fans stop but when I unplug 20 nowt seems to happen ?. Sorry to sound thick but does the A/C have a belt and does it run all the time or is it electric power which runs the compressor ?. The A/C was fine till I messed with the fuses trying to fix another fault B). Thanks Mauser

Hmmm mine shows fuse 4 on the little credit card but the car works without it B). Sodden air conditioning has now stopped fan runs but no cold air, display says Lo B). Sob doomed forever Simon

Most really, Any which have gaps next to them Seatkid B). I am normally carefull but my mind is on other issue's at the moment B). I think I will add all fuses as I posted before I don't think it will do any harm B). I have the TIS manual but its great if you can work out which model is yours B). Mine's a 1999 "V" plated 2.3 auto petrol if that helps. Just wish the manual Ford supply would reflect the vehicle sold B). I can but dream I guess. Thanks again Seatkid

Hi guys, Sorry to be a pain but messed up my fuses whilst checking them the other day. Now I am unsure what fuses go where B), got the manual but it covers several version / models so hard to work out whats what. Could someone with the same spec vehicle as mine just pop open the fuse cover under the steering wheel and let me know what fuses are fitted and of course what number holder ?. I am 100% sure there wasn't a fuse in number 4 but according to the manual this is the engine managment fuse B)... so I guess that has to be right. Was checking them 1 by 1 but then someone distracted me and I think I have 1 in the wrong space as there are several gaps in teh top row. Would it cause any problems to fill all the fuse holders with fuses ?, of course I would stick the right ratting in B) this would be the easiest way around the problem. Thanks Simon PS 1999 2.3 Auto Petrol Ghia

Thanks Ivor, Spotted it on the TIS disk I think or maybe it was in the manual... anyway was just a thought in case it was fitted and I didn't see the button :D. Just need the powered mirror to work now :D, according to book there is real1 and relay 2 both used for electric mirrors ?, wonder if 1 of these is buggered. Strange as there is power at the adjuster switch to move the passenger mirror so the selector button might be knackered ?. Simon

Resolved :D, 5 AMP fuse blown which is so annoying as this fuse operates the central locking grrr.... how come the central locking worked on all doors and the tailgate but not the drivers door ?, or is this fuse the drivers door central locking control fuse only ?, this seems more like it to me. OK confession time I didn't disconnect the battery when changing the loom as already posted and when I pulled the loom out there is a razor sharp burr on one of the gromet holes (now removed) this did bear a wire as I removed it, maybe this blew the fuse. Only thing which still doesn't function is the drivers door mirror... looking through the book they do folding mirrors which would be great as my Galaxy don't fit in the garage without folding 1 back, is this an option when ordering or is there another secret button you press to fold the mirrors back ?. Cheers Simon
-
Guys, Its spreading :D, now the drivers door mirror won't move but the near side is OK, same fuse according to manual :D, also the milage indicator used to show miles covered without the key/ignition on now its blank. These things got to be related to something.......just what ?. Very Sad Simon

Hi guys, The dealer took the loom number of the old one so i hope its the correct item. Just to make things worse got home tonight and noticed the air con fans don't work , my god can Ford make a car with less faults ?. Checked the air con fuses which are fine un-plugged the drivers door loom from the A panel then found you need to remove the interior panel to reconnect it grrr that sucks, anyway cables seem fine they not bound together rather they are lose which is far better than the tailgate fiasco. I have disconnected the battery so giving it half hour to have a think about its future if it don't start working I am selling the bugger. Any further thoughts suggestions appreciated.... sorry to bleat on but running out of patience now:(. Simon
-
Please tell me you are joking Nimrod  , I cannot believe its the loom not again. Will try tonight after work and have a play, might even try disconnecting the battery ?...... any thoughts / problems with doing this before I bugger it up please ?. Regards Simon
-
I think the doors were open whilst I changed the loom Ivor, I didn't even disconnect the battery bit naughty but all plugs are pollarised so couldn't really get the mixed up. When you say get the tailgate out of sync how do you mean ?. Does this confuse the locking system if so its np just to try what you suggested do I have to do any other checks / settings after re-connecting the battery ?. Thanks Simon

Its now doing weird stuff, like working backwards when I unlocked the doors the drivers door locked  then it wouldn't open but others would and so on. Maybe just needs a reset ? or some other sequence to put it right. Mauser

Am I doomed with my Galaxy ?, first the anit-role bar link then the tail gate loom now the drivers door wouldn't open this morning B). 1999 2.3 Ghia just started happening after I changed the tail gate loom which seems weird as didn't think they were linked. I got in this morning with the key then tried it @ work and got locked in  so climbed out the passenger side, then the door wouldn't lock doh. Windows wouldn't go up either on the drivers side as I had opened it to get out. I tried turning the key to close this window but it didn't close ?. Please say its not the wiring loom in the door..... just tell me to press a nice easy to find reset switch  Any help appreciated as always. Mauser

Sorry guys changed the loom . No real problems apart from not thinking it through, should have started in the middle at the rubber boot, had to undo a bit then restart but all went OK. Had to remove the electric rear window motor to get old loom out, and some of the Ford cable clips were impossible to reach without breaking them off or removing more panels. Feel happier now its fitted . Cheers Mauser PS took about 1-1/2 hours I guess -

3 hours later and the dealer says to me.. "you really want a new loom don't you ?" Well it took me less than a millisecond to say "yes" :(. I said you get it and post it to me and I will fit it :), hope its a simple replace jobby. Cost me a tenner in juice driving around Birmingham to see his "expert electrician" who said if it was him he would repair the broken wire and wrap tape around the others..... "not after spending -

Hi guys, Easier said than done... the guy is online somewhere in the UK :), if it will fit then he will give me a price. Sorry no way of telling apart from ringing Ford which I will try tomorrow. Dealer has said he knows a good auto electrican who will look at it :(, this worries me as the car came with 12 months MOT and needed a new anti-role bar strut next day :(. Best to let him look first I guess. Cheers Simon -

Hi again, Have asked dealer who sold me the motor to look into this :), he said he will check the Silver Warranty... what good that will do it covers only the starter motor and the alternator, that sucks for a warranty. Tried Trading Standards but they are on holiday till Tuesday about what rights I have over buying a second hand car from a dealer ?, there might be some come back as the car was supplied less then 1 month ago but I won't hold my breath so any lawyers out there please post if you know my rights :). Cheers Simon PS will keep you informed on what happens PSS anyone know what gauge the wire is in the loom ?, looks like 0.5mm but might be 0.75mm will have a look around @ work and see if I can find some nice supple multicore cable as a back up. PSSS anyone know if you can get these items second hand from scrap yard if so anyone know any good Ford breakers ?. -

Ta m8ty, Have sent you address via PM etc :). Will check wiring tomorrow Nimrod thanks, think mine is drivers side unless your left hand drive version :). Sure wiring loom goes through off-side roof ?. Will see if its bust some how. Just wondering if I hold the handle up with the door open does the signal to the solonoid remain on all the time or would it be a pulse ?. I could try holding handle and wigglying cable to see if is suddenly unlocks. Going back to the microswitch you would think Ford would have a small rubber bung on the trim so that if the door fails you could press the switch from outside the trim :). There again thats to simple I guess and wouldn't have let me in with no power. Cheers Mauser -

Ok, But am I right in thinking the power for the release solonoid is fed from this relay ?. I would have thought so being a current device pulling a few amps, the supply for the petrol flap is it the same feed ?, as the flap releases OK. I would have thought the boot solonoid would be a switch supply from the central locking so when the doors are opened and the handle lifted this in turn would supply power to the release solonoid catch on the tailgate ?. Might be wrong so please try and explain where the power comes from and why the filler flap works OK ?. Also what would be the best way to repair the fault if a wire is broken on the tailgate loom ?, I have the soldered heat shrink joints @ work... if they are suitable. Cheers Mauser PS anywhere I can get a wiring diagram or picture of the circuit ?.
