Merry Christmas Lads, My bulb failed other night :D, followed instructions but stuck on removing the arm ?, saw a screw which had sealant on it (red) slackened this off but things didn't improve the screw seems left handed or it pulls the assembly downwards when unscrewing the screw ?. anyway it wuldn't come off any advise plz ?. I am sure I can fix the bulb but don't want to break the holder etc getting it off ?. Whats the red screw sealant for ?, and have I adjusted something which wasn't meant to be adjusted :D Cheers Si -
Hi guys, Sorry bit late getting round to reading the replies ;). Opened a can of worms with this one I think ;). Anyway what would you do if you lived somewhere where it was below 5 degree's ?. I normally leave my front fan on 1 black bar and the rear ones on 0 then just set the temperature to keep it nice around 22-24 ish I was just wondering if its on or off in this state :o. If I don't see you before have a great Christmas & New Year and I will keep Ghia'ring up for it :o. Cheers Simon

Hi guys, Hope you all well and gearing up for Xmas. Anyway just wondering with the climate control on my 1999 2.3 Ghia motor how do I know if AC is on and when its off ?. I guess when its hot and I set the temp low it blows cold but what about winter times ?, is is always on trying to maintain whatever temperature I set or is there a certain temperature when its classed as off and above that its on ?. Hope you understand my dribble. Seasons Greetings Simon PS lost interest in changing pollen filter after reading the other posts ;).
-
Ta Fredt, Guess its that making the noise then seems worse with the AC on than off must produce more load etc . Might try a little spray of belt stuff... work might have a drop handy . Thanks again for the info Simon
-
Hmmm only 1 belt... thought it had more but thks for looking . What about the aircon pump as this seems to have something to do with the noise I am sure ?, does that not have some fancy electric / belt drive ?. Cheers Simon PS alternator belt seemed plenty tight enough and an absolute sod to get @.

Sorry To Ask Pollen Filter :)
Mauser replied to Mauser's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Do you think this alone would cause the condensation problems ?. Thansk for reply I did look @ the photo section but guess I missed the filter . Will have another look now I know where. Thanks a lot Simon -
My 2.3 Auto 1999 makes a belt noisy when idlying bad spelling I know . Can only see the alternator belt from the top where would the others be ?. Can get some belt dressing but no good without the belts . Any idea's on hows best to view them ?, was amazed that 1 could be changed in 5 mins spent longer than that trying to see 1 :). Thanks Simon PS alternator belt feels fine tension wise.

Hi guys, Long time no chat.. hope your all well and the cars are running OK. Anyway read the lovely topic on pollen filter changing many weeks back but after the cold weather started ny front screen got real bad condensation, would the pollen filter cause this ?, my mothers Astra suffers bad if her's is knackered. Anyway here's some pictures of my 2.3 Auto 1999 baby and for the life of me I cannot see the offending filter. Plz can anyone else spot them ?. Interior Tailgate Trim
Mauser replied to Ivor_E_Tower's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The 4 clips or so might also need a slight bending to correct any distortion through being removed / time . Mine's hanging on by 3 atm till I fix the tailgate open sensor thingy. Mauser (Ak Simon) -
Blown Bulb Temperature Gauge
Mauser replied to Mauser's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
OK sorry its a bit late but got around to changing the bulb. Undid the 2 bessle screws and then hinged the instruments forward and then out a bit, reached around the back with some pliers and undid the bulb holder by twisting. Replaced the offending bulb which had gone black and silver :o and all sorted. Thks for the advice just took longer to get around to doing it. By the way this car has had more bulbs go than all my other 10 cars have ever had in 22 years of driving . Great car all the same. Cheers Lads hope you all well. Mauser AK Simon -
Thanks guys, I have a pair of real heavy duty ramps... but always difficult getting the front wheels onto the ramp without hitting the front skirt, well it was a problem on my Carlton not tried the Galaxy yet :(. So belly pan comes off easy and then drain and fit new washer, will warm engine before draining as I am sure it helps it flow out :(. Am I OK to use Ford oil & filter ?, was always told that the original filter is always the best you can buy and I guess the oil is good quality ?. As you posted lads don't really trust dealers to do good job but was also thinking about re-sale value as the car would have a nearly complete service history...or do you think its not that important as long as I keep reciepts etc ?. Sure Ford make filters hard to get to on purpose :( Cheers Mauser PS bit off the topic but must say the Galaxy is the best car I have ever had for comfort and pleasure to drive, shame it drinks petrol as only downside. If it was a diesel it would be perfect.

Not bad Alarm Man, I don't have a cam belt luckily :(, was hoping to get the service for around

Hi guys, Just read Seatkids excellent post on changing the above item.... question is how do I tell when its blocked ?. I have smelly air-con when first switched on but think this is bacteria in the cooling bit ?. Am I correct in thinking that a spray of the anti-bacterial spray from Halfords will cure the smell and the pollen filter is fine as long as I don't suffer hay fever ?. Don't mind changing the filter if required but not changing for no reason :(. 1 last question is it worth having Ford do a 100,000 mile service or is it worth having a go myself ?, looking at the engine and the location of some of the parts it seems hard going to remove the belly pan to reach the oil filter etc..... can this be removed without a ramp ?. Anyone know what the going rate for a service is compared to buying the bits yourself ?. Might all come down to money, if its only a few quid then might just get Ford to change stuff. Cheers Mauser

Easy job, But you will need a 18mm socket / ring spanner not very standard i came upstuck with mine had the normal 17 / 19 :). Jack car up, remove wheel place block under suspension arm then lower car slightly and carefully to remove weight of link.... might be worth cracking nuts first. Then simply undo the nuts remove and replace. Think mine was around

Hi Confused 2 , Will remove panel ASAP and check connectors, didn't think I could go wrong with these as they are all polarised. But there again I will check and let you know and the colours the other side of the conector. Thks Confused PS why does everything seem to work including being able to lower / raise windows from the tail gate lock etc ?.
-
OK lads another question, Replaced the tail gate loom and all seemed fine, however whenever I open the tail gate it blows a fuse.... confusing bit is the fuse which blows doesn't stop the tail gate from working. So I unplugged the 4 loom connectors and replaced them 1 at a time along with a new fuse till I found the problem, there is 12 volts feeding 1 of the tail gate wires which when plugged in goes straight to earth. Now I have followed the wire and it goes into the right hand side of the boot handle looking from the inside. There are 2 wires going into a encapsulated bit ?, I have no idea what this unit does everything works fine with it unplugged, does it possible have something to do with the lock which stops the tail gate from being opened whilst the engne is running ?. The wire down to the connector is brown with a red stripe down it. Cannot see why this would go short circuit as the original fault was broken wires in the hinge part of the tail gate loom. Cheers Simon PS its not the wires going to the micro switch its the other side . 1999 "V" plate 2.3 Auto Ghia

Hi, Don't forget I am new to the Galaxy's where's the pollen filter ?, wife going to get some Milton spray I think so would love to cure the smell. Still not as bad as my sons nappies :o. Thanks Simon

Top man Seatkid B), Will go and check the little buggers now B). Since your my guru on Galaxy's the air con smells musty when first switched on which reading the forums is common, Halfords do the spray etc but any idea's where exactly I spray it ?. I guess in the air intake... but wheres that ?. Any help appreciated. Simon
-
Thanks Seatkid, Found the chart but as you say its confusing, I was hoping there was another 2.3 auto etc etc driver out there who could do me a list of the fuses and what ratings are used. I am sure its only 1 or 2 which are wrong I didn't pull them all out to test in one go lol B). Simon
