  1. Thanks guys, I guess I was hoping for better news , will price up a new set of disks + pads over the next few weeks and wait till pay day comes around :). Anything nasty to look out for when changing disks / pads ?. Simon
  2. Hi Guys, Car has just been through MOT and brakes passed fine ?, track rod end on near side was also replaced after MOT under advice and as in other post wheels have been ballanced and tracked but still the wobble persists, it does seem worse when braking in straight lines if I am turning and braking then it seems less noticable. Does feel like brakes are going going on and off fast and causing the wheels to snatch from side to side ?. I think if I brake hard I don't get the wobble but to be honest I am not a hard braker :). Any further thoughts appreciated. Simon :) PS Suppose I could change the pads as they are a bit on the low side .
  3. Hi guys, After having a new tyre fitted and the tracking checked I am still getting real bad steering wheel wobble/vibration when braking from above 50mph, seems OK or not noticable below this speed. Noticed the front pads were low on material but not changed them yet. Question is would low material cause the bad wobble on the steering wheel or is it something worse like warped disks etc ?. Cannot afford to change them on the chance it will fix the problem so any advice would be appreciated. If its needs new disks + pads then I will get them but don't want to spend
  4. Thanks for the feed back, will steer well clear :). Cheers Simon
  5. Reply from guy selling the pads + disk on ebay. Any further thoughts :). Cheers Simon
  6. If you can get your hands on 1 a screw extractor would do the job m8, we use them on largish bolts and they work great, I am guessing the bore size is close to 1/2 bsp which might be a bit big for a screw extractor but worth asking around m8. You just tap in slightly with hammer and then undo with a spanner as you turn to unscrew they bite harder into the outer :). Good luck Simon
  7. Thanks for the advice Howard, I have asked him for the make of the disks, Lockheed would be OK for the pads would they not ?. Cheers Simon
  8. Hi guys, Would anyone recommend buying these items from ebay ?. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW Got bad steering wheel vibration when braking for 70 down to about 50. Price seems cheap compared to just buying pads ?. Cheers Simon
  9. Most important thing is to keep a load pressing inwards on the nut, using extended bars is fine but just be warned about them twisting off and knackering your nuts (painfull). If possible I would try and get some leverage pressing directly inwards onto the nut as another person tries un-doing it, also a sharp blow with a hammer may also help loosen them :(. Anyway good luck :(. Simon
  10. Whilst getting my tools from the rear of the car found a small 1 ltr container of Shell Helix "F" I think Synthetic motor oil ?, please tell me my 2.3 Galaxy doesn't use Sythetic oil. I topped the oil up some time back with normal motor oil ?. Worried now, dipstick looks OK but I am sure synthetic and mineral oil don't mix ?. Its not used elsewhere on the car is it ?. Simon ;)
  11. Well what can I say ;), Opened bonet & removed the 1 torex screw holding in the indicator unit and slid forward, unpluged the bulb and looked in....there was the pipe, had a little feel and hey presto a split :D. Pulled off, cut of the bad end and replaced... went down the road, of course closed bonet first and all works fine. Many thanks guys enclosed evidence below. Cheers Simon http://www.mortal-souls.com/mauser/split.jpg
  12. Ahhh appologies, When you said behind I thought I was to access the pump from within the bonnet area.... not remove the indicator then get to it. Will look tomorrow :). Thanks in advance. Simon
  13. OK found the pipe coming out from behind the passenger indicator, but there a module fixed to the side which prevents me from seeing anything but a few inches of pipe, felt under the accelerator and found the pipe which after 6 inches went into a "T" ?, after that couldn't see where other side went, 1 side goes through the bulkhead then vanishes as I am unbale to see where it comes through :). I have attached a picture could some one point out which pipe I might be needing to check ?, totally baffled how I am supposed to fix anything on these engines as the space / access is terrible. Sorry to be a pain but struggling on this one. Simon http://www.mortal-souls.com/mauser/pipes.jpg
  14. Thanks for advice lads, Don't do any heavy braking but that doesn't mean previous owner didn't :). Disks look fine and only a small reduction in width but I guess thats still no proof they not warped to death. Will change the track rod end as the rubber is split and it needs doing before I invest in some new tyres. The crusie hose, is it dead easy to spot ?, I find most things apart from the engine are invisible on a Galaxy :), alternator belt comes to mind :), if anyone has a piccy of where it goes from and to it would be appreciated, is it a long hose ?, and do I get it from Ford or do other DIY outlets sell it ?. Cheers Simon
  15. Can you buy 4 standard studs ?, mine were sodden tight today. Will buy some second hand stubs if anyone got any ?. Simon
  16. Hi guys, Hope suns shinning where you are ;), my Galaxy 1999 2.3 Cruise Control seems poorly, it does accelerate but @ a snails pace and seems to give up around 70 and won't start @ anything less than 30ish. Any idea's why its playing up please ?, used to work fine but haven't used it much recently. Second problem got dreadfull vibration and shaking of the steering wheel when braking from 70 down to about 40, always worse when lightly braking rather than heavy braking. MOT found slight play in near side track rod end and I checked pads which have about 2mm on them. Disks were replaced some time back prior to me getting the car and they appear only to be slightly worn down. Would the thin pads + the track rod end cause me shaking ? and does anyone know a good cheap place for pads ?. Also need some wiper blades lol, all comes in 1 go... guess lifes like that. All advice appreciated as always ;). Cheers Simon
  17. Don't know answer but I can confirm my 2.3 goes like stink also when floored, even with 100K on the clock... surprises me every time I am pleased to say. Would check revs against speed/gear selected ?. Might be worth trying the gears in manual it might show something up ?. Sorry no other ideas :D. Simon PS Hi lads hope you all well, Howard, Seat etc :D.
  18. Matt, Any chance you could come and clean my car for me ?, you seem an expert . Good job on the paint work btw. Simon
  19. Hi Guys, My motor just scraped throught the MOT, advised to replace nearside track rod end and both front tyres + brake pipes were corroded. Been quoted between
  20. Must confess looking at where it is I would imagine its a nightmare to get to ?, even to change the belt looks impossible can only see about 1 inch of the belt from above :(, my god whatever happened to easy self repairs lol. Anyway don't fancy changing belt unless its an easy jobbie. Will live with squeak it does go after a few miles :). Maybe carry more baby talk with me :). Simon
  21. No idea when or if it has ever been changed ?. Don't fancy the new tensioner bill :(. Tried some belt dressing from work... real sticky spray stuff which made it sound twice as bad lol, then moved on to Baby Talc :), that made it go quiet so I guess its not the alternator bearing. Always sounds worse when the engine is cold extra load on engine I guess from alternator. Any suggestions on what next, cannot afford visit to dealer and as its buried out of site was hoping there would be easy fix "tighten this bolt half a turn Mauser, it will be perfect then" ?. Ahhh well I can dream :). Regards Simon
  22. Hi peeps, Tried a bit of talk on my squeaky alternator belt which is OK for a few miles but didn't last long . The belt seems tightish but how on earth can I get to adjust it a bit more ?. I can just about see the belt not alone the tensioner / adjuster, any advice always welcome. 2.3 Petrol Auto 1999 "V" Cheers Si
  23. Hi I know it was covered I read the post what I need to know is how it un-clips ?. I have looked but cannot see whats holding it on, the 2 lower clips seem to release nothing... my seems dead tight and reluctant to move ?. If anyone has removed theirs and can help please tell me. What LED did you use I understood LED's were 5 volt as standard not 12 ?. Thanks Simon
  24. Well switch seems fine . Now can someone please xplain this damn lamp holder I for the life of me cannot get it to come out. http://www.mortal-souls.com/mauser/bulb.jpg Thats what I see and I have tried all sorts to remove it. There seems to small clips either side underneath, you can see one by the number 24 on the left... but these seem to do nothing ?. Most annoying as the bub should be replaceable by simplyt removing it :(. Any advise always appreciated. Simon
  25. Cheers VR6 , I shall drink my coffee then go and reset the switch.... I hope lol. I shall then seal it back up with the wife's nail polish stuff if I can find it. Then I will attack the bulb holder again :(. Thanks again Simon
