I had this problem a few weeks ago. You need to remove the ICV (idle control valve) and rinse it out with some WD40. The little spring gets all clogged up and screws up the revs. It's in the TIS disk and is a 20min job. Just wip off the plastic rail with the multiplugs at the top of the engine and it should be visible just below it.

Before you go ordering a new relay, check the other standard problem.. pull back the rubber boot at the top right of the tailgate. If you see an orange/white wire that is broken - that will be your root cause. Remove D-pillar interior trim to gain access to chop in a new length. I fixed my rear lock in this way at the w/e.

Get some dog overalls.

My gal came with a 5-set of Goodyear GT2 215/65R 15 which are unique to Chrysler Voyager I think. When I had the frt offside blowout back at Easter I had no choice but to go for the same again. Insurers weren't bothered at non-standard size and non-reinf. I'm in two minds since the blowout took out a palm size piece of sidewall (no drama stopping though), but then the Voyager is a heavier vehicle and tyres should be suited to the weight.

Whilst not on the topic - does anyone else's steering-column height adjust lock slip? Maybe it's just a pinch bolt that needs nipping up?

Ford 5000 Radio/cd Changer
djacks42 replied to familyman's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
I just fitted an aftermarket Blaupunkt on my MK1. The plugs are all ISO standard so it just went straight in. The CD changer fits perfectly in the stowage area under the driver seat (saves the rear whl-arch box for the emergency gear) and the lead tucks under the sill trim - very neat. 15min job tops. When I get some round tuits, I'll sort out the aerial power doobry. -
Not knowingly, but it may have been left on initial latch position (i.e tailgate not slammed hard enough) at some point. Maybe it's out of cycle right? Battery disconnect?
-
Actually, I think I need to check the petrol flap and the tailgate wiring having read through some old posts.

Working fine up til the other day, but now the tailgate does not unlock when other doors are opened. It still works off the key, and I can central lock the doors from the tailgate. Relay 79 under seat was swapped out for a spare (which I 'think' was working from memory), so what is up? Does the battery need disconnecting to reset? Dodgy solenoid maybe?

Nimrod - does the tinting make alot of difference to the interior temp? I have no air-con so I'm thinking of getting this done - but only for this reason.

Engine Tickover Speed
djacks42 replied to Another?Maybe!'s topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The fairies paid me a visit on Saturday night and fixed it for me! It seemed to be driving with no problems at all yesterday.. I think the MPG last week would have been in the Range Rover V8 region! -
I have always had good service from my local Basildon branch - same chap every time who seems to know his stuff and is helpful for quick looksee's/advice.

Engine Tickover Speed
djacks42 replied to Another?Maybe!'s topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Did you ever fix this problem? The reason I ask is because mine has the same.. When I put the gear in neutral (say at lights etc), the idle speed shoots up to 2500+rpm and will very slowly fall to maybe 2000rpm or so. Do I need to clean the ICV (once I find it - can't see it in TIS) or does it sound like a vacuum hose loose somewhere? -
I chose a Ford because there is more choice on the secondhand market - by an order of magnitude I'd say. (Oh and cos I get a FMC employee discount).

Get your tyre fitter to clean up the inside of the rims and then reapply sealant to bead of tyre and rim. I had this on a mundano and it worked.

We just got back from a 1500mile round trip to Switzerland and about 2 miles from the Calais ferry turnoff, the frt-offside tyre had a major blowout at 85mph. We just heard a rumbling noise that got louder and louder until we stopped safely on the hard shoulder. There were 3 seperate gashes/holes in the nearly new 215/65r Goodyear sidewalls and smoke everywhere. No idea what casued it - pressure was good and tyre had no nails afaik. Maybe a defect somewhere? I can now confirm two things though. A fully laden Shalaxy will not spin off the road in this situation, and changing these damn things in this weather is no fun at all. ps. where's the best place for a replacement tyre at the minute? pps. the halfords equivalent next to Carrefour in Calais had Goodyear/Dunlops/Continentals for about

Access To Level 3 Relays?
djacks42 replied to jaritex's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
heh, sounds like fun... are there any end-of-level baddies to fight? -
I fitted some flush rear parking sensors at the w/e but I have not wired them into the reverse lamps in the tailgate yet. I know that the wire for this is bk/bl and it looks like it should run down the off-side D-pillar and into the storage area - can anyone confirm if it runs inside that chunky white rubber wrapped bundle?

Best private plate I ever saw was on a dinky micra and it basically read 'wife 2' on it! who says romance is dead

Break Warning Light
djacks42 replied to edmondsj's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If you're not bothered about having this feature working, stick a paperclip in the plug that connects to the pad - warning light should go off (well, it does on a mundano). -
Is the mk1 back panel off a Alha completely interchangeable with the Gal - any mods req? Anyone got one spare?

Dear VW/FMC/SEAT, I feel compelled to highlight my level of disatisfaction in your product - specifically the Shalaxy air-conditioning unit. Quite simply put, I have had no problems with mine at all and I find it very efficient indeed. What's going on eh? I hope you will arrange for my local dealer to amend (i.e break it) this situation asap. Yours, Mr. Refre Shed, Bogbrush Avenue, UK. <winks to viewers> ppsst, I haven't really got AC anyway  !

There are a few of us - I have the Transit engine aswell (white-van-man power  !). No gearbox issues to report though.

I had to tackle this over the w/e. I have already had to replace the locking module when I bought the vehicle, but it's only last week I have got the dreaded wet nearside carpet. For other Shalaxy newbi, to recap all the good advice elsewhere on this site.. Loosened off the wheelarch liners to get to the one-way drainage flaps. Note, the vehicle doesn't need jacking up and only rearmost 3 or 4 screws need removing on both sides. Also, the off-side has a filter assy which can be pushed to one side by removing a lower nut and an upper screw. Once I got to the flaps, I pulled them out and got a load of water down my arm! The flaps were indeed clogged up with goo - very encouraging I thought. Flaps went straight in the bin. Also, looking at the plastic cowl panel, it doesn't guide the water to the holes very well. In fact, on the nearside, the vane that sticks up has a 1 inch section that can allow water to pass, so I fashoined a joining bit out of sealer, and added another vane behind it to stop flow into the bottom right hand side of the pollen filter. Fingers crossed this week. I also investigated the washer tube under the nearside door scuff plate, but I could not find a join anywhere - even up under the dash. However, I could see no water gushing out when operated so I guess this is ok.
