  1. i have had a car with a faulty maf before and engine will idle ok but lacks power. has anyone had a faulty maf that renders the car undrivable - no idle or power?
  2. ford put 5w 30 in mine when doing an oil change.
  3. anyone any idea how i can fix this fault code?
  4. i need to try to find out why the 2 sensors are outside of there parameters then i will try to source a s/h coilpack.
  5. its not that i don't want to hear supulchrave its because i don't think it is the coilpack. i may be wrong but it makes sense that it is unlikely to be the coilpack with a misfire on 1 & 5 only.
  6. car is running rough. black plugs on cylinders 1 & 5, others ok. two faults logged: 00525 - oxygen sensor g39 00533 - idle air control regulation would the oxygen sensor cause the problem or is it a casualty? anyone any ideas on the 00533 fault?
  7. i think the next stage is to clear the codes and go for (hopefully) a good drive to see what codes (if any) come back.
  8. v311.2 works ok. 5 fault codes were logged. i was expecting to see something like misfiring on cylinders 1 & 5 as the car is misfiring on those cylinders. however. this is the 5 codes: 00668 - supply voltage terminal 30 07-10 signal to low 00561 - mixture adjustment control 00533 - idle air control regulation 00553 - mass air flow sensor g70 00525 - brake oxygen sensor g39 hope i have translated those corrected as the free shareware version only lists the codes for the last four codes and not description. can anyone see anything there that would explain the symptoms?
  9. interface should work without dongle - limited access. where did you get the driver from wood73?
  10. just downloaded it and will try tomorrow - thanks
  11. bought a cheap (dongleless) serial lead off eBay. have tried 2 pc's and reloaded v409.1 of vag-com but keep getting the same error when trying to connect to car: PORT OK: NO INTERFACE FOUND by a process of elimination i would have thought it was the lead. has anyone else had the same problem?
  12. i have a name to live up to
  13. this case proves just how difficult it is to make trading laws - there are too many potential factors involved. it also proves how useless warranties/insurance policies are. i think a reputable dealer would meet you at least half (if not all of the) way. GOOD LUCK. it is very low mileage for the gearbox to fail
  14. i think i might have got the wrong end of the clip
  15. to be guaranteed support and the full version you need to buy from Ross Tech. if you are buying a 'dumb' lead off eBay you need to download version 409.1 of vag-com. i haven't been able to get my DUMB lead to communicate with the software yet but i am sure it is possible as they wouldn't have such a high feedback. you're not in gloucester are you daveograve? which version of vag-com did you download?
  16. don't think i have that luxury of a light coming on when the window washer bottle is low
  17. it wouldn't damage the maf but it would render its readings useless if there is an air leak between the maf and main air intake. you also run the risk of any dirt/dust entering the intake. you just need a new clip and maybe some locktite. would be a bit worried if that is 3 litres of water/coolant you have just added - it is supposed to be a sealed system.
  18. have also looked for advice on the vwvortex forum as i am desperate to sort this out as car has been off the road for a couple of weeks now. had a reply saying that it could not be coilpack as cylinder 1 is triggered by the same coil as 6, & 5 by the same coil as 2. mine is not firing on 1 & 5. it makes sense if the coilpack is split into 3 separate coils?? what do you think??
  19. bought a lead last year from the US. downloaded the free version of vag-com but whenever i try to connect to car - vag-com says that it can't communicate with car. i am sure that it is the cheap lead at fault.
  20. will clean all of the multiplugs and cover in contact grease before reading fault codes. coilpack really is a last resort due to the cost and the fact that there is a good spark from both 1 & 5 plugs. is there anyone in the gloucester area with vag-com as i can't get my software/hardware to be recognised?
  21. if it was the coilpack, would 1 & 5 still be sparking? do you know much about the fuel injector side supulchrave? are there two rails of three injectors or one rail of six? does anything connect between the ecu and injectors? how does the engine fire? do 2 cylinders fire together? thanks for all your replies
  22. no change seatkid. does anyone know much about the electrical side of the injectors - maybe injectors 1 & 5 are not being sent the electrical signal to spray fuel???
  23. had the plugs out again. 1 & 5 (back of engine) are black, others all ok (did notice a bit of oil in the plug well of 4). replaced the two plugs but no difference - 1 & 5 are sparking. just to recap. back of engine got a soaking while scuttle drain removed to bypass matrix car now appears to be running on 4 cylinder instead of 6 cleaned plugs fitted new leads i don't know where to go from here, surely it is not injectors or valves? i am hoping that you chaps can help me out as i can't afford to take it to ford or vw at the moment. all of the leads are on the correct coilpack connection
  24. i haven't read any faults codes yet, as i think it is only running on 4 or 5 cyclinders and didn't think it would help diagnose the problem. i have been using the special tool for removing/fitting the ht leads. as i have now replaced the ht leads i will remove the plugs again tomorrow to see if i can identify the cyclinder(s) that are missing. I am hoping that it may be a cracked plug. if it is not, and it is mis-firing i will have to check: read fault codes wiring coilpack injectors compression can anyone add anything to this list?
  25. 'read its head' Sepulchrave? can you explain? i was very careful to put the leads on the right way Seatkid but i will check them again to make sure. the coil pack, leads and trays are all numbered.
