Na................Care in the community scheme! ;)

As a ten year old, we had little or nought input into what my Mum and Dad decided to do at that time, my father had been medical paid-off from work so decided he wanted a change, up sticks and said "Right,we are moving to Scotland!" Na sorry, used to support Man Utd when i was young, used to rattle off all the players in the squad at the time............ The Greenhoff Brothers (Jimmy and Brian), Sammy McIlroy, Joe Jordon, Stevie Copple, Ray Wilkins, Lou Macari etc etc. Gosh, those were days!!!

Handbrake A Wee Bit Kaput.
Saif Rehman replied to mumof4's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Mum, the cable that had snapped was, what you have called the 'secondary' cable i.e. NOT the one from the handbrake lever. To be honest with you i don't know the in's and out's of fitting it as i left it with the mechanic once he had it confirmed. But i am sure the exhaust did not need to come off on my old Mark 3 Astra 1.7td estate as he works from a lock-up next to his house with no fancy tools or lifts Take it along to Kwik-Fit or the likes for a 'quote' and ask them about the fitting sequence and whilst the car is raised up, have a quick look. That's not all................... Once in the same car, i parked on a small incline, handbrake on, went in to house, came back to drive off but brakes would not release - stuck solid. Left vehicle where it was whilst i went to work, phoned AA who apparently tried to release rear drums by hitting it with a big 6ft pole and a sledgehammer! No sucess so they recovered it to my friends garage. And in the process put two hugh flat-spots on the rear tyres when they winched in onto a flatbed! Got rid of the car after that - too unlucky! Touch wood - no problems with Galaxy....................yet! -
Handbrake A Wee Bit Kaput.
Saif Rehman replied to mumof4's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Mum, could be that the brake cable has snapped on one side. I had a Vauxhall Astra estate and i drove off one day with it still on, next time i used it the brake handle went up by 10 clicks instead of the usual 4. It was confirmed by the mechanic - he asked me to have the handbrake fully on, first gear and try to drive of whilst he stood at the back. he noticed only one side of the car going down (indicating the brakes in the drum working) Has a gander underneath and sure enough, passenger side cable snapped. Easy repair and cheap. -
Alright Adam mate, Welcome - i see from your profile that you live in Brummy land. Whereabouts? I used to live in Birmingham in an area called Saltley (Off Alum Rock Road) was born at Dudley Maternity Hospital which i since found out that it no longer exits (converted into housing!) Moved to Sunny Scotland about 29 years ago! Haven't been back for quite a while now but love to see it again (and listen to the accent!) All the best Saif

Adding Traction Control
Saif Rehman replied to insider's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Sorry to divert away from the initial request from 'insider' about traction control - after 'googling' ABS brakes came up with this rather interesting website. And they seem to disagree with SK's idea that it saves lives and i quote: okay, admittingly it was way back in 1996 so have things improved? It also suggests that people were not fully aware of how ABS works and even suggests that owners need more training! I can see this debate continuing................ P.S. Not to fussy about ABS but, ESP and Traction Control i would be interested in. -
Oh dear!!!! BigKev will be shi**ing himself now
-
Ian, Due to the complexity of the PD engine and to avoid any future problems, i would advise not to use it. Regards

Does it say VW 505.01 on the back?

There is already a sub-section for Classified Items, it's on the front main page of this forum in the General Section.

It depends how you drive the car - in my experience when i overfilled my volkswagen jetta, it was fine pottering about town but when i was driving along the dual carriageway at the speed limit there was a sudden lack of power. Mechanic later confirmed it was due to overfill of engine oil. So IMHO, around town low revs should be fine but at speed i would have the excess removed.

Yep, can confirm that the BOGOF deal is no longer available, the deal now is that you get a set of Halford branded screwdriver set worth allegedly

Windows Opened An Inch By Themselves?!
Saif Rehman replied to JonathanLH's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Being a 2005 on a 55 plate car, wouldn't it be covered by the manufacturers 3 year warranty (or is the mileage quite high)??? -
Heated Rear Window Not Working
Saif Rehman replied to jimmyd's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have the same problem with my Galaxy, the previous owner had a dog (telling from the huge amount of dog hair i found in awkard places) who i think must have licked at the window all the time, you can see the break in the lines from the drivers seat looking back through the rear view mirror and depending on how the sun shines. I guess the only remedy for me is a new rear window! -
Neil, how, or what software is required to open this bmp file?

I managed to get 99.95% but in 51 seconds with a dodgy mouse who wouldn't drop where i wanted it to go and vice versa. ;) Very addictive - Have you seen the high scores? A person has done it in 6 seconds! :19:
