The usual offering for wierd electric problems.... Make sure you have the radio code, then disconnect the battery. Wait for 10 minutes then re-connect it and drive the car for at least 15 minutes so that any engine manageemnt functions shich have to be "re-learnt" are re-learnt! Did you find any fuses blown? Did the door stop locking and unlocking when you got out of the car and tried to lock it? (edited later) Just re-read your post - maybe a wire is broken or two are shorted in the loom between door and "A"-post (below the windscreen pillar, where your door hinges are fitted). Does the rubber-covered tubing look damaged or OK?

Didn't know if 7Up had PD engine. So someone's told me a porky about PD engines needing to be supported and one engine mount removed to change the belt then.......

So Ford UK website is still showing the pre-facelift model as the curent one! Shall have to pop into the local dealer for a brochure if they are now available. I do feel tempted instead to buy another car whose name also starts "Gal" but don't have the

Welcome to the forum! Do you have the sevice book? If so, ring the delaers whose stamp appear. Do you know who actually owned it before? (should be on the V5)? Worth giving them a call and seeing if they will tell you anything. I did this with a previous car which was owned by PHH Allstar. They confirmed it was one of their own cars, not leased to anyone else, and that it had never been accident damaged. They wouldn't release any of the service receipts etc, but the book was fully stamped up with all the services recorded. Good luck!

How To Protect The Vehicle
Ivor_E_Tower replied to Ventoux's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Maybe there are times when they are useful - my car is parked close-ish to my bedroom window at night, but I set the alarm off on a previous car in a train station carpark one Saturday when there were loads of people around, and nobody turned round or came over to see what was the problem. Sorry to hear of your loss, hope everything got sorted OK. -

Nobody takes any notice of alarms as a theft warning these days, they only get upset by it waking them if asleep. Seems pretty pointless having an alarm really. -
Frozen Door Locks
Ivor_E_Tower replied to Mussey1's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Ah, but it appears that the car develops fault is left outside at night when it's damp! Maybe the Galaxy ismn't fit to be sold in the UK unless you work days and garage it at night? What are you going to get to replace it? Previa? Or will you risk something european? -
Frozen Door Locks
Ivor_E_Tower replied to Mussey1's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I'm sure the spring can be re-installed if (1) it hasn't broken (it probably has) and (2) if the lock mechanism can be dismantled that far. This is where remote locking comes into its own! No worries of the key not turning. -
It looks like the screen shots from the Ford of Germany site I reported a few weeks ago plus some other text - I suspect that it could be taken from a new brochure as it's similar to the current (or just superseded?) one - certainly many of their web pages are duplicates of the brochure I have from just over a year ago, but with subtle changes eg to the photos of the wheels and body colours. Bizarely it looks as if Ghia now gets in-dash CD autochanger and loses the ability to play cassettes - so I won't be after one then (if money owing to me comes my way this year). 90PS TDI available in LX trim only, as previously. ISTR that it's basically he same engine as the 115PS but with a different turbo and intercooler arrangement. For some bizare reason the Ghia is still not available in solid red, but is available in solid white!

Electrics - Blowers And Wipers

Don't know about that. I just love the way that Ford use the word "concern" rather than "complaint"! -

Didn't think that the Galaxy used CAN BUS, thought that only more recent designs of vehicles would have it fitted. -

Seatkid - yes the 6-speeder on the TDI is a VW box. -
Electrics - Blowers And Wipers

I'm not fredt, but from experience, this can happen- depends on how the resistance wires have failed. Bust to remove the old unit and check it for failures. Have previously seen units with wire coils exposed to the air flow within the blower unit, and they fail through melting. If one end of the break is "flapping around" it may make intermittent contact. -
Various : Gearbox / Rear Washer
Ivor_E_Tower replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Gearbox- when you say grates for a bit, do you mean all the time or only when trying to select a gear? (sounds like you do mean this - no pun intended!) If only when trying to select a gear, could just be the box needing a bit of "running in" - assuming it has been correctly filled with oil at the factory? Washer jet may just need re-aligning but my experience says that the jet doesn't reach to the top of the rear screen anyway. Half to two-thirds seems adequate - when it gets hit by the wiper blade, the splashes reach up to the top. Indicator - seems a strange glitch - unless the car is now fitted with the latest gizmo that makes sure that the indicators do flash for a minimum number of times (ie you cannot give just one flash as the electronics won't allow this!). -
I think you'll find that Haynes do not even call their publications "Workshop manuals" any more. They have certainly cut down on the amount of usefulinfo, and seem to be more of an expanded owners manual now. TIS CD - I don't think that you can get them "strictly legally" unless you are a Ford agent, but they are readily available presumably from people who work at agents.

If you don't have a sunroof it's a bit tricky! Try standing on top of the rear tyres, holding the roof rails for extra support if you have them. Or opening the doors and standing on the sills.
-
ISTR that car manufacturers had to make spares available for 10 years - this was one of their reasons for trying to stop pattern parts being made by the motor factors. Suggest you contact Ford directly if necessary - or get Autoglass to do it.

chasing people with mobile TV's - brings a strangely surreal image to my mind! Anyway, the TV is supposed to go off once the vehicle is moving, so then you're not a mobile TV watcher!

A car isn't really a mobile home, so has the law failed to keep up with technology?

Air con for demisting at this time of year isn't so good because it doesn't work due to the low ambient temperatures! It seems that the VW system cuts out below about 5 deg C, and it's a long reach forward to the screen with a demisting pad. The heated front screen also takes a few minutes to work (for those of us who have this luxury - which really seems to be an essential on an MPV).

I had a similar "problem" with my old Rover 820 5-door. Most of the water would go into the drainage channels, but it had such a large "5th door" that a huge quantity of water would sit on it, ready to create a mini niagara falls when you opened it, and also water dripped from the 2 ends of the tailgate spoiler into the boot. You just need to adopt a different strategy when opening it when it's wet - open it part way, wait for most of the water to drain off into the proper drainage channels, then open it the rest of the way. Mind you, not easy to remember, or want, to do this when it's still p***ing with rain!.
