Fans run all the time if aircon is switched on. NB certainly on facelifted models, fans have several speeds, so just because you cannot hear them does not mean they are not running - you may need to open bonnet and have a look to confirm that they are running on low speed(s).

Split boot on rack will not put the tracking out, but it may result in loss of PAS fluid; need to get it sorted ASAP.

12 volts is not the "advertised" value; IIRC, the nominal value is 13.2 volts for a 6 cell lead-acid battery. To charge the battery you need a greater voltage, hence somewhere in the region of 14.5 volts from the charging circuit, which is the voltage that should appear across the battery with the engine running.

The original one in my Gal was a Varta, and guess what, the auto electricians fitted a Varta replacement as they reckon they are the best! The Halfords ones look OK, but I found out afterwards that my 2 local Halfords do not stock the right one and it would have to be specially ordered.

Duff battery - get it changed but I don't know if it will be covered by warranty. Mine did the same - gave up when just under 3 years old (as taken from date of first registration, but over 3 years if taken by date vehicle was manufactured). Car refused to start in the morning, I jump-started it. It started OK at lunch-time same day and I drove straight to auto battery specialist to get it changed. Not too worried about haggling over possible warranty claim as relying on the car starting is more important that about

Wheel Trim Discolouring
Ivor_E_Tower replied to italiastar's topic in What thing irritate you about your Galaxy
It's down to poorly specified manufacturing processes. If you own the car from new, best thing is to remove plastic wheeltrims or centre caps as soon as you get it home, and coat them with 2 or 3 layers of clear automotive lacquer. This will also make them easier to clean. A bit late for you, I'm afraid. :D -
20k Service And Oil Issues
Ivor_E_Tower replied to GalMan's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
Of course you are right to take it back and to get them to drain the excess oil out. This is garage incompetence and they should put right what they did wrong. 19-09-2004 Ford SD is the correct 505.01 spec oil for the TDI PD engine. -
Mk 2 Ghia Alloys
Ivor_E_Tower replied to Dave-G's topic in What thing irritate you about your Galaxy
Dave - as per PM - will have to pass this time round due to lack of funds and someone damaging the wife's car whilst it was parked this week. Damage is not as bad as I first feared and a good clean with meths, plus application of touch-up paint stick, will have to do for now whilst I save up..... So, anyone else want them? -
The items should be listed in your service book. TBH, it looks like you have done more than would be covered in a dealer service so don't bother taking it there! It appears to be quite common these days for no interrogation for fault codes to be done, unless you specifically report a problem;l I am surprised by this but I suppose it is just another indication of falling standards in the motor trade  Oh, and as for the cost, I am reliably informed that at least half an hour is allowed for unbolting the undertray and re-fitting it afterwards - out of a total of about 1 and a half hours allowed for a basic "inspection" service at

Mk 2 Ghia Alloys
Ivor_E_Tower replied to Dave-G's topic in What thing irritate you about your Galaxy
I'm interested in all 3, but the drive to Leicester at the moment is the problem  as is the money - still another 2 weeks until payday  -
I don't think you will get one big enough to fit the bikes in B) B) :D

Have you checked all the fuses as a starting point?

Strange Noise From Tdi 110

Back to the "flying biplane" thread? -
You should be OK - ten quid is under 4 gallons so the mix will be OK for winter driving in extreme conditions to lower the freezing point (as Johnb80 said). Suggest that you fill to brim again once it's down to half full.

What Wives Do (normally)
Ivor_E_Tower replied to Davetheref's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Err, my problem (well, one of them) is that the spare has been trashed to hell by the first owner - used to be on the front nearside. Not managed to find a single Ghia alloy on e-bay when I've had the money and been looking. Fingers crossed for next year! -
Just under 3 stone. If it's on castors, it doesn't count  Must be one that you can (do?) carry round the house and out to the cars to do repairs.
-
Not if you're in that biplane - don't fancy my chances of following a guinea-pig down to a nice soft, watery landing place.

Galaxy Brake Lights

..sounds like you have to remove the bracket that holds the jack in place, which has been covered somewhere before. -
Sharan 'beta' Cd Player
Ivor_E_Tower replied to turnip's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Jumping when playing means that either the unit is unsuited to being used in a car, or the "buffering" circuit is not working properly. As to not playing copied CD's, this is a well-known problem with in-car units and it looks like you are stuck with old technology that just cannot cope with them. Time for an upgrade from your local in-car audio specialist perhaps? -

"Chips away" told me that the Ghia wheels ae machined alloys and so need to be re-machined to remove any marks  New wheel may be cheaper. -
Agreed - not yet got down to 12 deg C where I am

Got me thinking - will weigh mine this evening if I ge t time and start a new poll on "How much does your tool kit weigh?" :o

How Much For A 1st Service - Tdi 130
Ivor_E_Tower replied to italiastar's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
Iain, those prices do not make sense for a facelifted version as the services are Minor at 10 and 20 thousand, then major at 30,000 then repeat this scycle of 2 x minor then 1 x major. I like their price for a cambelt change though :D -
The Strangest Thing...
Ivor_E_Tower replied to Denis's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Tried mine out last night - the light switch does indeed push in and rotate a little, but no external or internal lights came on!
