  1. Wow - do they train dental nurses to drive trucks these days?
  2. I have these strange visions of a hamster-powered Galaxy in my brain now..... ..oh, Nm (Newton-metres) not nM (??)
  3. Unable to upload photos at present after latest site upgrade. Sorry.
  4. Why did you try it out at the week-end? Some sort of sadistic punishment? To make others envious? :D
  5. Depends on your insurance company. Some (many) now DO penalise even for 3 points. ..and RWTomkins - it's not just the number of gears that affects mpg, it is the gear ratio (eg how many mph per 1000 rpm the car does in top gear). The TDI 6-speeders are set to run at about 32mph per 1000 rpm in 6th, so just over 2000rpm to get 70 mph. This aids refinement as well as mpg!
  6. Cold chisel; large hammer? :D
  7. I though the issue with inflator foam was well-known. Oh well.... I believe that the latest foams (or maybe its the removal solvent) do allow repairs to be made. Personally I'd always have a full-size spare wheel and tyre on board.
  8. Not quite - got about 630 miles when we went to Paris and back but didn't do more than 10 miles after the low fuel light came on. If I'd felt really brave, .........
  9. Tee Hee! With 45kg of bikes on the tailgate, it could prove quite interesting trying to open it. Load capacity on roof of 75kg plus bikes plus other bits and pieces including passengers must not exceed total rated vehicle load. Maybe I should have a go at making some wooden roof bars......
  10. Hmmm, I get over 30mpg around town on short journeys. If you are getting less than this from a 130, then there is something wrong - either that, or the traffic is so bad that you should be walking instead! Any idea what you get on a long run at a steady speed of eg 65mph?
  11. No, no.. Sur le pont d'Avignon, l'on y danse round their Renaults that won't start, and loads more throw themselves over the side with ropes around their necks.......
  12. There's a 100PS version of the 1.9TDI engine (not fitted to Sharalaxies though) - are you sure that the 115 doesn't have VGT?
  13. Improvise - make something up with some blu-tack and a bit of 4 x 2
  14. Masked marauder is correct in all respects. Do not get part of a bumper re-sprayed - only whole panels should be re-sprayed in metallic colours. Sounds like extensive rubbing-down and proper preparation is required before they attemp to apply any more paint. There are a number of aids that reputable bodyshops can use to ensure that they get the correct shade when they mix a colour. Blues should not be too difficult to match up either. Good luck - sounds like you nay need it.....
  15. Variable vanes are ones fitted to the casing to direct the gasses onto the impeller - the vanes on the rotating part of the turbo do not themselves rotate! Not had a look myself, but I would have thought that there would still need to be a wastegate...and yes, the 115 does have variable geometry turbo.
  16. Vehicle type - Vauxhall Vectra? Does this need updating? :o Mondeo has FCO switch as per Fredt's post; shouldn't need resetting too often - set at a minimum of 6g if it has a rubberised reset "boot" on top of the switch, or 16g minimum if it has a hard red plastic button shielded by a black plastic protective ring.
  17. I've had bad experiences with Renault UK's customer "service" too (What a misnomer) with the Scenic that my other half now drives. The Espace is good, but watch for the disintegrating crankshaft thrust washer that results in a bill for a new engine....OK if you can afford to change the Espace as soon as the warranty runs out.......... (personally I'd love to get the 3.0 V6 diesel :P )
  18. I still prefer mine made out of wood and travel blanket
  19. If it's anything like the CD multi-changer, I'd suggest firstly unplugging it then re-plugging it in. Got to be worth a try first?
  20. See my reply in the other thread.
  21. Usually there is a plastic blanking plate in the roof lining in front of the sunroof. Prising it off should reveal a hidden handle and a hole into which this should be put and turned, to open or close the sunroof manually in the case of an electrical failure. HTH
  22. It won't be mercury for health and safety reasons! If you mean the lights inside the load area, either the switch is built into the tailgate lock, or else they are wired in series with the door switches, as they all seem to come on together. Anyone got a wiring diagram handy?
  23. The SEAT brochures are rubbish. Trim levels are S and SE; SX was introduced later as a sort of mid-way between S and SE - try the SEAT website. Just to confuse the issue, SEAT have now renamed their trim levels to something like Reflex, Sport and something I cannot remember! (Stylance?)
  24. Where are you going to fit the box? How large is it (difficult to tell from the photo)?
  25. I meant that it's a higher-roofed NEW Focus (or Mazda 3 or new Volvo S40 - they are all based on the same floorpan/structure). As to the Picasso, Fredt got it in one (did he mention it was French too?) It also has the spare wheel slung underneath the rear whereas other midi-MPVs have then inside the boot, under the floor where they are more secure and don't get dirty. The Picasso is also sooooo ugly - which is the front and which the back? Only the light clusters give it away from the outside
