Passenger Air Bag
Ivor_E_Tower replied to wilber's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Shouldn't be a problem as they should be well clear of a baby seat when deploying. Baby may get a fright though - but just as much as it would otherwise do when involved in an accident. Best to avoid accidents (and babies?). :( -
When I was a student, I knew a girl who did a Saturday job in McDonalds - she told me that based on what she saw working there, she would never eat one of their burgers (but wouldn't elaborate any more). She wasn't my type, anyway.

Passenger Air Bag

I've not yet plucked up the courage to install SP2 because of the problems I hear that people are having with getting software to work. Does TIS CD still run under XP SP2? -

Crunching Into 2nd & 3rd Gear On Change Up
Ivor_E_Tower replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The VW 6-speed box is not the best in the world for shift quality. It doesn't seem to like being hustled between gears at the best of times. Whilst the box in my Gal is not obstructive, it is pretty "clunky" when changing gears. It's best to take it nice and easy. If you're getting clunks though, best to look at the advice/suggestions given above. Any signs of an oil leak from the box? -
...not with the engine running - using all that lpg and not going anywhere, fred? ..and by the way, when they're parked, the TDI is just as quick as a VR6

Tedboy - how old is the battery? We had a similar sort of problem on my parents' old car many years ago - if it started OK first thing, it would be OK for rest of day, if not then "oh dear" as it was an auto. It turned out to be a battery on the way out - if the voltage was OK first thing in the morning then it coughd into life and got charged up OK, but if the voltage droped below a certain level, there wasn't enough to power all the electronics etc, and it became impossible (or at least very difficult) to start.

New Wheel Bolts For My 2002 Tdi

Silver Hammerite Smooth finish (after a bit of TLC and de-greasing) or Humbrol silver enamel paint from good model shops and my local Homebase. -
Do people buy cars or is it mainly companies? I like to buy the best product I can - it's my money and I would like to think I got the best from it  ..and what about refusing to buy a company's products because it annoyed you/misled you in the past etc?

Hard to figure it out - engine revs for maximum torque in top gear - but then you have to consider wind resistance etc. Probably more economical at 45 mph than 56, but do you want to travel that slow as the savings will be marginal? Air resistance/drag increases with the square of your speed, but it is not the only force that needs to be overcome by "wasted" fuel.

Help Wtd With Ford Sat Nav System
Ivor_E_Tower replied to corskey's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Probably a broken wire between GPS receiver and head unit - or a loose connector plug. Try taking the unit out of the dash and checking the wiring before visiting an in-car audio place - then risk a visit to the dealer! Good luck -
Maplins are doing a special offer at the moment - reductions of up to 40% IIRC; must try to remember to pop to my new local Maplins tomorrow afternoon!

Start off with the same as for 16 inch - 41 front 38 rear IIRC Edited 09:50pm 25-11-2004 I checked the workshop manual for my parents' recently departed Volvo 850 - the difference in pressures for 16 inch wheels over 15 inch is a reduction of half a bar, or about 7psi. So if you find that the normal pressures of 41/38 are giving too bouncy a ride, try lowering them by 7 psi all round. HTH Ivor

Vw Sharan Electrical Query
Ivor_E_Tower replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Yes but that depends on the radio. Some radios switch on their illumination, even when off, once the "ignition live" is activated. -
Vw Sharan Electrical Query
Ivor_E_Tower replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
You can buy the leads with blocks on them eg at Halfords - 2 choccie block bits later and all should be sorted for much less than the cost of one hour at the dealer. Try an in-car audio specialist if it's not too late. -
OK - vehicle interior lights are usually powered live, and the switches make the earth connection. As the lights work, there is power to them, and as they work from the switch on the light itself, that is earthing correctly. So chances are that the earth wire from the light to the courtesy switches is broken somewhere before it divides into 4 - or is the electrics box under the front passenger seat wet?

Abs Warning Lights

When did you last have the brake fluid changed? -
Some of us have posted digital photos of our Galaxy mudflaps on this site !!! Fitted by first owner or supplying dealer, they stop the worst of the debris from sticking to the rear bumper, but not by much when compared to those I see that have no mudflaps fitted. As to the effectiveness of the front flaps - hard to tell, but they must help keep the bodywork cleaner than it would otherwise be.

Maybe Fredt has been to bodybuilder classes and has too many muscles now? -
A little diesel in petrol is a disaster, a little petrol in diesel should be OK - but not half a tank-full! Syphon or pump out as much as possible, then re-fill with diesel to the top. Drive for hours until almost all the fuel has been used up; refill to brim with diesel again and you should be OK. Good luck

First check that the bulbs and fuses are OK. Did they both stop working at the same time? Do they work from the switch in the lights, but from none of the doors?
-
Ah the joys of the site! Soemtimes you paste what seems to be text and it gets converted into a link as if by magic! (Still cannot upload photos though  )

Ah this old chestnut again.....VW and Ford both specify 40,000 miles as the change interval, but apparently Ford started off with 60,000 mile intervals when the facelifted Gaalxy was launched, reducing the interval within weeks of the launch of the facelifted models. We've had postings from others with VW group cars using the same engine where the interval is somewhat greater. Not sure what SEAT specify. ...and to the best of my knowledge, the cambelt change is never done as part of routine servicing (irrespective of vehicle manufacturer), you are always left to ask for it to be done specially (meaning the service bill is inflated accordingly). Incidentally, got to see my parents' new car yesterday and to read the handbook - 2005MY Volvo V70 D5; cambelt change interval given as 108,000 miles or 6 years, whichever comes first!
