  1. So let me pose this question for you: Do I drive 7 miles home from work on a route that allows me to usually get about 40mpg, or go home the same route that I drive into work, about 4.5 miles but only getting around 32mpg because the traffic is so bad in the afternoons?
  2. Could be dirt or partial blockage of the fuel line with debris in the fuel tank. Mis-firing - when were the ignition leads last changed?
  3. 900-950 is a little high; according to the rev counter, mine idles at nearer 800
  4. Ahhh too true ! Been trying to pick up a spare mobile phone and the prices of used, unwarranted (often locked to 1 network) exceed those for an unlocked new one, fully warranted, from the Carphone Warehouse Also trying to pick up a cheal laptop for work and same problem - can get a warranted professionally refurbished one locally for less than the price that most unwarranted private sales fetch on e-bay.
  5. Short out the temperature sensor near the wiper mechanism, under the bonnet
  6. ...and finding the reason for non-working fans should be easy (if you have a little electrical knowledge). Start by testing the fans themselves - apply 12 v across them. If OK, proceed to the temperature sensor; short that out and the fans should start ...etc etc until you find the cause.
  7. With "power consumption 8W per unit", using both of them will use about the same power as having one main interior light switched on - hence, no problem unless you leave them running overnight with the engine switched off.
  8. I get this from time to time on mine - just undo the 2 fixing screws holding the CD changer in, unplug the eletrical multi-plug, wait a couple of minutes, plug back in and re-fix the screws. If it still doesn't work, then it has been damaged by shock from the accident.
  9. I think what you mean is .... you need the type with no metal base, just the glass with 2 wires that emerge from the base of the glass and get trapped in the bulb holder - similar style to most Christmas tree lights ...... now that gives me an idea .......
  10. Do you have an alarm fitted? Usually the indicators flash to show that the alarm has been set. If one of your door closure switches is playing up (or the bonnet or tailgate closed switches) this could be why you don't get the flashing lights.
  11. Try some red stuff The 4-year life antifreeze - costs a little more but needs changing less often (unless you think you'll be draining and refilling again soon - in which case why not use the cheapest stuff you can get for a few weeks until you are sure you have sorted the problem, then drain and refill again with "good" stuff. Don't be tempted to use plain water, because of the corrosion issues)
  12. Replacement Aerotwin blades by Bosch are now starting to filter through into Halfords and other car accessory shops (thank goodness)
  13. As I found out earlier this year, it's easier to change the sidelights with the relevant front wheel removed. Not sure how to re-fit the sliding cover as I had no problem with mine. You do need long, slim fingers and strong wrist muscles to change the bulb though - there's not much room inside the aperture once the cover has been opened.
  14. You'll have fun !!! All the allen bolt heads are "false" - the centre trim just clips in - you need to use any one allen bolt head to lever the trim out, against the spring. The "supplied" special tool, loop of wire, goes through one allen bolt hole, then you manipulate it behind the trim go get better leverage.
  15. Ah - so very little hope for the original "technician" after all. With commiserations for the breakdown etc - however, the Kia Sedona has a certain "reputation" that is worse than the Galaxy's. If you are seriously looking at one, the facelifted version, with the larger radiator grille is supposed to be somewhat less awful than the original version. Thought of the Hyundai Trajet as a budget alternative ?
  16. What radio/cassette player do you have fitted at the moment?
  17. We went through a number of posts about a year ago (IIRC) about the chromed coat hangers that fit the the head rest rails, but could only be ordered from Ford with a new vehicle. Well, Woolworths have a universal hanger on sale at the moment as part of their Christmas gift range -
  18. Interior lights are on a timer if the car is unlocked, but if you lock it on leaving, the lights should all go out immediately. (unless you have switched them to permanently on, of course). Sounds like you need to make an adjustment, as detailed above.
  19. Could just be the brake light switch - have you tried unplugging the wires from it and seeing if that puts the lights out? (Or could be like mine a couple of weeks ago - duff filament in bulb shorting out from the sidelight circuit, but if your brake lights are on all the time, even when the sidelights are off, it's unlikely to be this). There are usually 2 "braking" switches, mounted on the underside of the brake pedal under the dashboard.
  20. We've covered the STOP message before - mine still does this from time-to-time, even when stopping suddenly from very low speed. Plenty of pad life left, plenty of brake fluid in the reservoir. Most common suggestion for the cause is low oil pressure when you brake suddenly, sending all the oil away from the pump's pick-up point. However I doubt that. I just conclude that it is another "peculiarity" of the vehicle.
  21. Check all wires between driver's door and the A-post; maybe some have broken and are shorting out (either to each other, or to the vehicle body)
  22. Aye, if you've fixed them with a hammer, then that's surely a good job. Paint that you used was Hammerite, I hope ???
  23. First to reverse should be dead easy - just don't rush the change. If not, then there is something wrong. First thing to check for door not locking is a broken cable in the loom between door post and door.
  24. Uk oh - losing coolant only on long motorway journeys could be a sign of a head gasket fault - pretty rare on the TDI engine, but not unknown.
