Headlamp Convertors - Advice Please
italiastar replied to Taliska's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
My Skoda dealer told me that they do these with converters already stuck to them in the right place - Why can VW / SEAT / Ford do the same ? -
Ivor - I'd seriously question your service - My neighbour just paid

I had mine serviced at a franchised SEAT main dealer last week. For that I get the assurance that the technician (they don't have mechanics at main dealers) has been highly trained  as they have lots of certificates up on the wall to prove it. They also ensure that my screen wash is re-filled :) and that all my lights are working correctly :) and my hinges are lubricated :) - they even check my wipers! :) I think it's a bargain for

According to SEAT Customer Services, the majority of the time taken to service the car is removing and replacing the underbody tray, hence why they carge

Are you buying privately or main dealer. I believe the documentation supplied with the car will stipulate quite clearly that the service must be done within 1 month or 1000 miles of the stipulated interval or mileage (10000miles or 12 months for the Alhambra - I would think the Galaxy would be the same). If the dealer you are buying from is willing to put in writing that the warranty is valid, I then confirm this with Ford and take it from there. If the warranty is not valid (as I suspect) then it's your decision. In reality 6500 miles is hardly going to make any diffrence, but as you will find from reading on here, threse wonderful vehicles are not always that reliable and warranty claims are sometimes required. You also have the option of taking out your own warranty - for example the Civil Service Motoring Association (which you can join if you, your spouse, your parents etc etc are or have ever worked in the civil service or BT - Advert over!) will sell you a warranty. Obviously at the end of the day, you've got to decide on price.

As you've seen from my previous post, SEAT (and Skoda) dealers on the outskirts of saarf London want in the region of

Well done Seatkid - obviously the spreadsheet only covers what they really need to do. The other -
Are you sure the price trebles on the Tunnel - I always go high load and the price is the same?

Your right - my dealer quoted -
If you have the TIS i'd use that. I have got a set of covers with them stuck on. Interestingly, when I picked up my wife's Fabia this morning, the salesperson said they sell covers specfically for continental driving.

Quite right, high maintenace hinges and screenwash!! Have you seen this - http://www.skoda.co.uk/skoda3g/content/bus...ia/fabiasmr.xls Shame there isn't a SEAT/VW/Ford equivelent -
Took our Golf to Nationwide Autocentre for a service and MOT - not too bad considering the price, however it's obvious that they make up the money with remedial work - quoted

As a cyclist, it's very off-putting approaching a car side on with tinted front windows - you cannot see if the driver has seen you - also off putting for car drivers. I suggest, law or not, I suggest you consider leaving front tints to the bull-bar brigade.

1 mile - whats wrong with walking! -
My recommendation is the Thule Bars - Ok they might be more expensive, but much better in the long run and easy to sell when you no longer need them. When I got the Alhambra I just needed to buy new bars (longer ones) and reuse the "feet"

I've seem mention elsewhere about needing reinforced tyres - can you please tell me how I can identify them as I wouldn't trust the local tyre fitter to know?

I concur with Ivor. The non-diesels drink fuel, but then your not paying a premium for them although the diesel will be much easier to sell. I too spent ages looking for a decent used one - shed loads of 2.3 galaxys and quite a few 2.0 sharans - nothing on the diesel front. As for extras - Cruise control is nice, electric folding mirrors a must for me (I have to fold them to get it in the garage), parking sensors essential. climate control very nice. Alloys look nice, but a pain to clean and I'm terrified of damaging them. Have a look at the SEAT SX trim level - it offers all the things you really need if you get a 7th seat thrown in.

350 to a tank is more like 20 - 25 mpg - something is wrong if it is a tdi. Mine is between 40 - 45 mpg on a run - the best I've ever got was 50 mpg and the worse (fully loaded, high speed, air con the lot) was 29 mpg.

Headlamp protectors are available from main dealers - I intended keeping the deflectors on the covers, but as their easy to cut, I've now taken them off and left the protectors on the car. Mine were about

In my view, there is very little difference apart from cosmetic. The Seat SE is very well specified and has all the extras that the others will charge for. My only complaint is that the internal fabric can be easily caught - look closely for damage. The SEAT comes with sports suspension as standard - slightly hard on the road, but very good roadhandling. I've only driven the 130BHP and can say it's VERY nice! The sales people will give you all sorts of rubbish. Whateever they tell you, these cars are all built in the same factory, the diesels all have VW engines and are all basically VWs apert from cosmetic differences - as my son said - if you look behind the SEAT badge it will probably have a VW logo! My experience of Ford salesmens is that their not bothered in trying to "sell" you a car, only interested in making their commission and getting the highest possible price. VW salesmen are just not interested and SEAT salesmen vary from just like being like the above to extreamly helpful. From my experience the best deal was on the SEAT. In my view, buy the one you like and are able to get the best deal on. If you are looking at about a year old, try negotiating a deal on a new one - this is a good time of year if you don't mind a reg which will soon be replaced. I bought my last two cars in the middle of June - it's a dead time of year and salesmen have targets to meet. Gerald

JB, Thank you very much for the advice. With my previous car, a Mitsubishi SpaceWagon I was advised very strongly against fitting it myself - naturally, people with a vested interest gave me all the excuses under the sun - despite it looking very easy to me. Any advice from your experiences would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I've not noticed anything, press the accelerator and it Shifts! Tiff Needel was full of praise with the Fabia fitted with the same engine a few days ago.
