Rattling Noise Coming From Roof
italiastar replied to italiastar's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I said something along those lines - maybe a bit stronger and added that if they made so many, maybe they could swap it with a new one. He eventually agreed to look at it - I'd have to book it in for a day as the job would take some time - I decided it wasnt worth the bother as they'd probably make it worse or break something else - took it home and armed with a Torx bit fixed it in about 60 seconds! -
Rattling Noise Coming From Roof

It sounds like a cable flapping, but I've never had anything fitted and the headlining has never been off. Johnb80 - I tend to agree with you, but my recent experience with dealers is that 1 they deny knowledge of there being a fault 2 if they accept it they deny knowlege of being able to fix it - When I went back with a door that didn't shut easily - the service manager said, what do you expect from a production car that rolls off the production line every 60 second - these aren't hand made ! 3 - they cause more damage whilst trying to fix it -
Auto "gearstick" Light
italiastar replied to italiastar's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I've just seen the latest posts after looking at my neighbour's car. We tried to prise the inhibitor switch off, but saw the above post after we'd given up - worried we may break something. I'm wodering if it's possible to "break off" the red cover round the bulb and remove it with the inhibitor switch in situ as I'm concerned with actually removing the switch as it could cause bigger problems - particularly as this is the part that SEAT claim they cannot obtain. Another thought of ours was to remove the ashtray lamp (not much use if you don't smoke) and extend the wires so that this bulb can be taped next to the gearstick light. Any thoughts anyone? It's good to see that VW have got their priorities right and made it easy to change something as important as the ashtray light. Thanks to everyone for your help -
Can And Radio Swap?
italiastar replied to Ogben Schmutzel's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Many thanks, steve - must admit reception is pretty good with just the lead - I'll try the place I bought the radio from - car audio direct. Just found this - might be of interest to people thinking of upgrading - http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_in...07bb3f78773afe1 -
Can And Radio Swap?

I didn't - I thought that was just for AM boost - does it also work for FM - if so where can I get one. -
Can And Radio Swap?
italiastar replied to Ogben Schmutzel's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
I replaced mine with a Kenwood - the Kenwood keys work or i believe you can get Blaupunkt ones - my only problem is FM reception which is not as goos as the scala unit. -
Mine was fitted with Continentals at the factory - I personally wouldn't touch Bridgestones - In my experience on my previous car, they wore out too quickly and were useless in the wet - not too good in the dry for that matter. I replaced them with Goodyears, despite the Dealer and Mitsubishi advising against it as they claimed the car was designed for Bridgestones and fitting another make could comprimise safety - something I found hard to believe as Bridgestone change their tread about every year. The Goodyears were much much beter and held the road perfectly in all conditions.

I've just returned from Italy and my neighbour has repaired his MAF sensor thanks to the help from this forum - Thanks SEATkid He now has another problem. The light has gone on his auto gearbox selector - the dealer told him that he has to change the whole circuit board - now the really bad news - they can't get one, they don't know if they will ever get one - helpful as usual....... I don't suppose you can expect much for

Gps / Heated Front Screen

Sorry - I didn't want to sound like I was knocking you guys with working GPS - The system is fantastic if it works. -
Gps / Heated Front Screen
italiastar replied to smoggie's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Mmmmm - I'm sceptical. Someone at work, who's adimant that sat nav won't work though a heated screen brought their Nav Man into work. To test it he asked me to name a place, so I named the small village I'm going to in Italy - I eventually reached a City south of Milan, before it recognised it, but still no maps. He explained this was because he'd only loaded maps for |France, Austria and northern Italy - I hear you say that Milan is in northern Italy! OK I moved onto France - still no luck. He did say that with a 1 gb card he could store maps for the whole of Europe though - Why would you want to do that? Eventually I let him choose, but we got nothing. After half an hour and him saying that it cost -
It can't be - that's what a car salesman said when I asked them! <_<

Thanks for pointing this out - I agree with SEATKID.

Gps / Heated Front Screen
italiastar replied to smoggie's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
That's good news - my wife has just asked - does it work with the heated screen on? She's also pointed out that if we had sat nav, we'd have to find something else to argue about - also does the sat nav display automatically turn round to point in the direction your going in? -

italiastar replied to smoggie's topic in I.C.E (In Car Entertainment) Discussion
Sorry to be dim - are you using the laptop as the display for the GPS? I also read about gps not working through heated screens - I thought that if the reciever was positioned right at the edge where there isn't any "wires" , the GPS might work - you guys have answered the question - I just need the money to afford one - after being fleeced by two dealers in a row! -
If I'm correct, my code is ASZ - but remember that mine is an Alhambra - the different manufacurers have different recommendations, despite them being the SAME car. For example the VW can have variable servicing, but the SEAT not - the same engine in the Skoda Octavia can have variable servicing, but in the Fabia not - but in both cars the cambelt lasts for 90K - Confused - I sure am! My neighbour has a w-reg Alhambra which is either 110 or 115 BHP and he's just been told his is 60K
-
Check whether yours need to be changed at 40K as yours is a 2004 car it could be at 60K. There was an engine change in 2003 and the latter ones need cambelt changes at 60K. Mine was registered on the 1st of July 2003, the dealer checked the engine code and confirmed it was a 60K change. Interestingly, the same engine in the Fabia needs a change at 90K - I guess it's strained less?

Alhambra 2 Year Service
italiastar replied to italiastar's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
The quote about the dealer was actually referring to the jokers who supplied my wife's Fabia - sorry for the confusion as it doesn't really belong to this site, but as it has the same engine, I was referring to the PD oil rip off. Interestingly, I used Sidlow this year after my supplying SEAT dealer tried to *hag me for -
My wifes Fabia was returned with two very large spots of bird poo after the dealer had it for a few days - even more surprising, they didn't even charge for it!

Alhambra 2 Year Service
italiastar replied to italiastar's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
I did actually suggest that I carried out the work, myself in their workshop whilst their "technician" supervised me - adding that they might learn how to do the job properly! I said that was was even willing to pay the full price for the service under such conditions as all I was really paying for was the stamp in the book - as you can imagine - that went down like a lead balloon. If it's any consulation, there was a bin full of oil filters next to the waste oil tank - only cannisters though, no innards like the TDI ones. -
Hunting around - I've found this - http://www.onboarddiagnostics.co.uk/vagcom/index.html - very expensive or this - http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/download/ which looks free? but how do I know which one I need? Ps where is the interface on a mk2 Alhambra?
-
You are a star! Where else could I get the answer 23 minutes after posting the qustion. Many thanks. Now my problem - I don't have VAG.COM. I've been tempted - having both a Alhambra and Fabia - could anyone advise the best way of getting hold of it, prices and uses, please. Many thanks, again

Does anyone know if newer Alhambras have indicators that click 3 times if you just flick the indicator stalk (rather than lock it). My wife's Fabia has this and it it really useful when changing lane etc. I really miss not having it on the alhambra and was wondering if it was something that could be fitted or enabled on my car.
