LOL at john not my decision to give out offers like you asked for but I know you would not require a refund as it does work. in different areas have different needs. What makes our underfloor heating so cheap to run is that each room is controlled individually, i.e when using the room gets warm so the heating is not needed to be at max and the thermostat senses that. Bedrooms do not need to be on at the same times as other rooms, spare bedrooms etc that are not used can be left at lower temperatures. So it is highly controllable and cost effective. Water, Water ? Goods system but not responsive. I.e. It has to heat up 50mm of screed and then the floor covering, this can take two hours to heat up and a long time to cool. so if in the summer you had a cold day you would not have heat on demand. If you were to say electric underfloor heating is expensive to run over 3 years ago I would have agreed with you because the copper cable system is not effective, now as technology changed the amorphous metal ribbon system has revolutionised the market. so here is the make up 1) Subfloor 2) Insulation 3) Heating 4) Floor covering I will add some images later to show you the differences in heat transfer rates. Some technical details Technical details in PDF format Insulation Values

With regards to heating are you saying to heat a room you need a constant 2-3kw of power ? Because every system that is thermostatically controlled will not give out a costant heat. just because your system is rated at say 1kw does not mean it will use 1kwh in a single hour.

It is to do with heat loss and heat distribution, Radiators will distribute heat from one side of the room where it will rise the circulate around the ceiling so what you get is a lot of heat above your head and close to the radiator itself by the time it circulates to the area required i.e body height it has wasted energy heating the air you cannot reach. With underfloor heating it heats up the whole room evenly, your feet are warm and the rest of your body feels warm because of this it is more comfortable at lower temperatures. so because underfloor heating does heat the areas that you want it to rather than overheating the areas you don't want it to it is cost effective. Because we always recommend the use of high quality insulation under the heating very little heat is lost into the sub floor. Look at attached image below for the logical explanation There is obviosly an issue with heat loss but that is why I said average house i.e. loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, double glazing etc. that is why less wattage is needed to heat a room. and now with carbon indexing of new houses out of the window and the reintroduction of SAP (although it is a reconfiguration of the old SAP system) I know that this is more cost effective. One customer came on a couple of weeks ago and said it only cost him 27p a week to heat his 35m2 conservatory. If what I said was not true the company I work for would not still be in business, and it has been distributing this product for 4 years. Every one has the right to be sceptical but on the website in the downloads section their is a technical manual which explains it in more technical terms.

50,000 square meters installed 200,000 awaiting installation. Tests have been carried out by the university of sheffield and leeds to show its efficiency, because of the nature of the way it works it is far better than other forms of underfloor heating. The power output is 150w per 1 square meter, it is thermostatically controlled with an advanced thermostat. Because it does not heat the concrete, wood sub floor it passes the heat quicker. Because the ribbons are so close together less heat is wasted and the floor is heated evenly. Because the heating elements are about 10mm below the floors surface the heat does not have to travel far so less heat loss. because the ribbons cover a vast area of the floor space it can heat a room easily without the need of the ribbons exceeding 28 Degrees C. so at minus 1 Degree C outside an average house the ribbon underfloor heating can maintain 23-24 Degrees C. It is not down to KW used its down to how efficiently the heat is distributed once it is generated. it Heats from the floor upwards and does not convect the heat around the walls, it does not need blowers or fans. I understand you being sceptical but for every system we sell we get 4 recommendations. We are fitting it in 2000 flats over 1000 houses for developers over 150 renovations. A number of documents and tests had to be done for the larger projects to ensure it works and is cost effective. I have no problems stating how it all works and why it is efficient. Regards Glen

Efficiency is down to the way its installed Most underfloor heating is applied to the concrete base and then a screed placed over the top. With the system I offer you put an insulation on top of the concrete base and then the heating ribbons, the flooring product will then go directly over the top. Most electrical systems will have a 3mm or 7mm wire snaking around the room with gaps of between 75mm and 150mm so it has to work really hard to heat the gaps, as its heating it is getting cooled. With our system the ribbons are from 8mm to 35mm in width, and spaced between 10mm to 40mm because of this massive coverage plus the insulation underneath the heating makes it highly responsive. If you took all the gaps out of the cable system you will only have an overall floor coverage area of 5 - 10% with our ribbon system you will have approximatly 40% overall floor coverage. because of the massive floor coverage it does not need to heat as high, fits directly under any floor covering so does not need to heat up a screed. Because of all these factors plus the efficiency of amorphous metal ribbons this system produces a comfortable heat with low running costs. For an average room with average insulation our system will cost between 1-2p per 1 hour per 10m2 area. that means an average 3 bedroomed semi will cost about 70p -90p per a day (in winter) to run to me those figures are good based on 9-12 hours of usage per day.

The basics is electricity is renewable and you can get green electricity, you can also store solar energy in batteries, wind or water turbines, etc. so yes electricity is renewable but at present I agree that more can be done to reduce the usage of non renewable fules i.e. coal and oil. The other thing is you need heating when the sun is not out so running direct from solar panels would not be useful, but you can sell energy back to the grid and claim it back in the winter. as for the savings element: Underfloor heating is a radiant heat and not a convection heat it heats the whole floor evenly, because it releases the heat throughout the whole rooms floor and it rises it does not need to heat up as high to give you a comfortable heat. Again because it does not need to heat up as high and the heat is probably about 24 - 25 degrees at floor level and 21-23 degrees at head height the duty cycle is not as great as conventional convection heating. The average duty cycle of the ribbon underfloor heating is between 1:5 or 1:4 what this means to you is for every hour you want heat it will only draw electricity for about 12-15 minute per an hour (obviously that 12-15 minutes will be spread over the whole hour) So for a room that needs 3kw of power it can take upto 5 hours to use 3kw hours. I could go on but yes it is very energy efficient.

They are always confusing - each member can only see their own 0% means you have been good so nothing to worry about. Dont worry about them unless you intend to be naughty. 100% means suspension for a short time regards Glen

Don't know much about it but this is on the citroen site and may be of interest on here. http://www.citroenpicasso.org.uk/picasso/i...?showtopic=9662 Nothing wrong with a bit of discount....

OK guys and gals the new mods are here, there is no need to try and get the last word in lets just end the topic on a nice note (from me) by saying happy surfing to all and may you enjoy the site, change can be hard to accept but changes must be made, but soon the changes become part of standard life until change comes around again.
-
Now have the third and final moderator Neil wiles So all together we have Masked Marauder Momof4 Neil Wiles All the moderators will make joint decisions and have access to moderate the whole site, as a democratic team it is upto them to choose if they all look after the whole site or split into sections. They have all been set guidelines as to what is expected from them, If you have ideas of what you think should be done on the site in conjunction with moderation then put your ideas forward but the mods will decide if your requests are acceptable to the site. The fact that the guys and gal are willing to spend time looking after the sites interests for no reward should in itself be respected, so please make life easier for everyone and the mods by playing nice and having fun. Thanks to the new mods Glen

Just so people are aware I have put a section at the bottom of the website called the department store that can be used to help DIYers with flooring / underfloor heating as well as bring awareness of the companies websites. These are here to help those who want the services and can easily be ignored by those who are not interested this is an exercise to help search engine ranking, and to shamelessy promote things. Just thought I would mention this as it has nothing at all to do with the galaxy but it is discretely placed at the bottom of the front page. Regards Glen

Lets start of with a bit of a comparison on radiators and underfloor heating Radiators Take up valuable wall space Hot to the touch Uses non renewable energies Needs to be maintained at regular intervals Reduces Humidity in the air Getting expensive to run as gas and oil prices increase Gas and oil is not available to all (still) Not highly controlable. Takes I while to warm up and circulates the heat up and around the room. Ribbon underfloor heating Does not take up wall space Is pleasantly warm under foot Uses a renewable energy source No maintenance required Does not dry out the air in the room Can save upto 40% compared to gas and oil heating Electricity is available to all Is highly controllable and only heats the rooms you tell it to You will feel an even heat from the floor up within 15 - 20 mins. So the questions I usually get is Is it expensive to install ? Not really because the ribbon underfloor heating can be retro fitted on any sub floor under any floor covering, other underfloor heating may need to be buried in concrete or are only suitalble for certain areas. The ribbon underfloor heating can be fitted any where. Can it be used as a main heating source ? Yes the ribbon underfloor heating can be used as a primary heating source and there is no need for radiators. Not only that it is highly controllable no need to heat the bedroom until you want to use it so you can set it at a lower temperature or off until before you need to use the bedroom. Do I need to install it in the whole house? Not really a vast majority of people will install it room by room until they have done the whole house and then remove the radiators, etc afterwards. What if I just want to use it in my conservatory ? This is not a problem most people choose this form of heating because if they choose radiators they would need to increase the capacity of their boiler so this is the next logical step. Can it be installed as a DIY project ? Yes it can, it is very easy to install and a DIYer can install it all upto the point of connecting the thermostat to the power this will have to be carried out by a part P electrician as of January 2005 Building Regs. Why have you posted this info on here ? Well since the site is not making any profit I decided to use it to provide information about businesses that I am involved with, if we are able to help users buy something that they need and give the information on here which will in turn increase the linking to the business site then everyone is a winner as the site could become self sufficient from visitors. I have put it in a different category so people can choose to ignore the section. Any questions about underfloor heating please either reply to this thread or create a new topic.

I just checked and my email address was not valid any more ooopppss :P

OK guys and gals, I get over 400 mails on a daily basis from all the sites saying that the user it is trying to send mail to is unknown :P I have relaxed the validation rules for today to allow you all to do some spring cleaning so you can do the following.. Change your email address to a valid 1 Change your subscription settings Change your email options All of the above can be done in your control panel Please do this as a matter of urgency as it will improve the performance of the site in general, and please only subscribe to those topics that are important to you, this alone could save 1GB of bandwidth a month. Regards Glen

can I just say as the creator of the site it was not intended to be just about getting help about your cars, it was aimed to be a ford owners community where people can exchange information, resolve problems and have a bit of a laugh. The reason we have a general discussion and nonsense should highlight that. If we all just got our notepads out and came here only to sort out problems with the cars then the site would be a desert. If you look at the citroenpicasso site they have a weightwatchers section, fun and games etc and it seems to be very lively and happy, it has only ever had one mod and he doesn't need to do much. Personally I have no problems wth people posting nonesense as long as it is in the right section. Glen
