MadBaz Posted June 30, 2012 Report Posted June 30, 2012 I've had a squeal coming from the engine for a few weeks now, started just after exhaust mid pipe was fitted, decided to investigate today, I couldn't get the exhaust off the turbo to have a look at the turbine or check play on the shaft, had a good look for air leaks and had a looksy at the charge air pipe, intercooler-egr, and it's contaminated with fresh shiny metal shavings along with a copious amount of oil, damn and double damn, looks like catastrophic failure isn't far away. Sorting the turbo shouldn't be too much of a problem, once I get it off, can the air pipes & intercooler be cleaned reliably, if so what would peeps recommend? Quote
seatkid Posted June 30, 2012 Report Posted June 30, 2012 I think its just a questiion of stripping the pipes and i/c off then swilling them out a suitable solvent. Maybe petrol for the i/c, not sure if the plastic pipes will handle petrol. Brake cleaner is pretty good for removing oil. Quote
chrispb123456 Posted July 1, 2012 Report Posted July 1, 2012 A good dunking in soluble degreaser, wash out with high pressure hose, then blow out with airline or leave to air dry. Quote
airbox Posted July 5, 2012 Report Posted July 5, 2012 I washed out the intercooler on my Stagea with kero then rinsed with a bit of petrol and then left it somewhere nice and warm to dry off. I was suprised at the amount of black stuff that came out. Plastic pipes should be ok with kero too Quote
