I think the Mk2 is the same as the Mk1 on locking - though I might be wrong. I think you may have a problem with the door looms (very common, both my cars, thanks to the forum I found mine) as your key should lock/unlock the whole car from all the doors. The system can be programmed to do this in two stages (driver only, then the rest) but should work from all three locks.

Could you get the dealer to check/sort this out?

Incidentally, my mk1 Ghia with the battery out only lets me unlock the driver's door - not tailgate or passenger (I might have had the central locking engaged when I took the battery out, or could just be dud locks. Point is, IF yours is the same, a very flat battery might leave you locked out completely....

I'd just posted this and did a check on new content. This might be interesting - great deal, and if they do the same discounts for remotes

As regards restoring the remote function, you have some choices -

genuine whole key from dealer (loads of money),

genuine remote from ebay, get new blade cut, and add its immobilser (again dealer usually) to the car's system,

ditto - but just add the remote part and use a key the same as you already have in the ignition (possibly cheapest)

non-ford remote from ebay, either just using the remote part, or get one that can house a "standard" immobiliser chip and has a blade you get cut.

(This works as long as your locksmith can clone the key you already have. Might be worth checking that out before you start if your aim is a full working key).

The ebay system I bought came with two remotes, flip out blades ready to cut, and room for quite a big immobiliser chip for around

Hi thanks for your help. I think i have explained properlly whats goin on, but iile just go through it again incase. Car will not lock with key in drivers door, have to lock via boot. But once locked there is a odd noise and drivers door does not lock but red light flashes, all doors lock but if i open drivers door alarm goes off. When im inside car and try and push drivers handle to lock makes odd noise, locks all doors besides drivers. So what do i need to do/purchase to solve this problem. Only have 1 key which i got off dealer that hes had cut, starts and locks via boot but thats it. Thanks for your help

On mine, with the battery disconnected so no central locking, the driver's door will only lock mechanically from the handle inside the door, and then only when the door is closed. Wiring faults cause all sorts of strange happenings in the central locking. (including how far the key goes round on mine - not sure if this is because the lock to key link is mechanically broken but the key operating the switch operates the electric bit which operates the lock if you see what I mean - I just mention this because it shows how odd things can be, I also had a rear door which you could hear FOUR distinct cycles due to wiring faults and the door locked about once every other time I tried the key)

I'd start by checking the wiring in the rubber tubes connecting the doors - there's really good guides to this and other stuff you'll find useful eventually in the FAQ. If you haven't come across it yet, click here http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?/topic/7886-faqs-common-questions-and-solutions/

I'd be lost without the stuff everybody else has taken the time to post.

Not quite sure about your comments on the driver's door when you try to lock it from the inside - does the handle go in, and then make a noise and come out again? Wiring can cause that too. Maybe you could describe the noise a bit more...

You could try, just as a part check of the mechanical state of the lock, pulling the central locking fuse or disconnecting the battery then trying to lock the driver's door from inside the car. If you do go the battery route though the ecu forgets some learned values and things might be a bit ropey till it relearns them. Honestly though, if you fix the wiring first most strange stuff goes away..

Good luck - you'll get there in the end!

You do need to have the radio switched on to use the DVD player.

I suppose it's to late now but you should have made the dealer sort the keys properly, as you need two working keys to be able to program another.

Doors should lock/unlock from all doors, when you put key in either front door does the key feel like it's not turning anything or is it going round and round if so you will need new lock kits like the one in this link

If the key in the drivers door is not locking the car then there are 3 possibilities:

Wires in the door gaitor broken.

The key barrel 'cam' is u/s, replacements are available at dealers or the well known auction site, here's a handy link CLICKY

The door lock motor assy is u/s, available at VW stealers.

Locking problem solved. Had a mobile auto locksmith come out to my house, the actual handle lock mechanism had fallen apart so he put it together and programmed a new key. So the central locking now works and i also have a spare key, not bad

Send the bill to the garage. :angry2:

i wouldve asked the garage to SORT IT OUT BEFOREHAND,

but as 'CHROME' has said, but i can guess the reply

thats why the garage didnt sort it in the 1st place.the cost.

The garage has said he is going to send a cheque to cover half the cost, so lets see if he does or not. Still not solved the problem off the dvd players not working, checked all fuses and still no idea lol.
