Hi,

New here so hello! Recently bought a 2010 Ford Galaxy 2.0 TDCI Titanium for the growing family, and so far so good (touching wood!)

Any way my question is, it has the Eco Mode and for the life of me i can not get more than 2 petals for Gears or Speed, i have tried everything driving super smooth, changing gear before the change arrow, driving like my gran, driving like Jenson but nothing still two petals  anticipation all five green, the other two nothing, this has now become my mission to get all categories green. BUT HOW!!!! please save me from myself

I'm not familiar with the Ford system but on our trucks we have to keep the revs in the green band, 1500-2000 rpm, Block changing, timing lights/junctions/roundabouts to keep her rolling whenever possible, no harsh braking/acceleration, no excessive idling, all this data (& lots more) is reported back to depot and head office so they can generate a nice weekly report and work out our monthly bonus.

I've found on the car (MK2) between 1500 and 2200 works best for MPG. I know the TDCi is a slightly different animal but as with all diesels the engine works best in a narrow band, don't let her labour (too high a gear at too low rpm) and don't let her rev too high before changing up. Depending on how the software has been set up, you may find that coming down through the box when slowing is penalising you, block change down, if coming to a stop stay in the gear your in and dip the clutch just before you stop/when the tachometer gets below 1000 rpm, then select your appropriate gear. Another tip is when going down hill don't coast, select an appropriate gear so the car will hold it's speed without needing to touch the pedals (max of 3500 rpm), when the engine is doing the braking it's not using any precious gogo juice.

As a side note I don't know if you've seen the tv ad for the Mondeo, but the driver on that only had 2 petals for gears & speed!

A problem with driving in eco mode is the DPF, it needs sustained high revs to self cleanhttp://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/public/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif.

You mean like this, excuse the dust on the dash

So many things influence this, I live pretty close to motorway and don't do a lot of town driving, having said that I do struggle to get it past the 40 MPG where on the MK2 it was fairly easy.

Hi thanks for that, i was always told by my dad to use engine breaking, i'll try the block shifting (if i can break the 16 year habit) and see what occurs!

I think it was added to the S-max and Galaxy when they did the facelift late 2010.

I've got the 2010 facelift 140ps 2.0 Diesel Titanium Powershift model, and regularly check Eco Mode

I am pleased to say that i am nearly always on 5 green "petals"

My style of driving is around town and short journeys, leave it in the "automatic" mode, but any journey over a few miles, drive it as a "manual" car

By doing the "manual" driving, you can keep reves below 2000rpm, and change gear at will.

Dont forget in the powershift model, theres no clutch, so driving as a "manual" car, really is dead easy

My average mpg around town, is 43-44mpg, but on longer runs i can get 50 -52mpg

Yesterday on a 110 mile journey from Shrops, to Peterborough (M54, M6, A14, A605) i got 50.2mpg

Never exceeded 70mph on Motorways / A14 as by doing this the revs are always at 2000rpm max

The car has now done 31,000 miles, and seems to be running at its best

It took until around 20,000 miles before i was seeing this type of mpg return

Actually there are two, it's really a glorified manual transmission with electronic gadgetry, becoming more popular than the old auto with torque converter

this is probably ok on a non dpf car.but what happens if your car has 1.these require a BLOODY good thrash to burn the crap off/out of them.
