derekod Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 (edited) I have a 2002 Ford Galaxy and i have noticed from first start up when cold there is a diesel soot smell from inside the car while driving from cold, I have looked around for an exhaust leak but not found one, and I do not notice the smell when the engine is hot. The odd thing about it is that it smells overpowering at times that I will have to open the windows to leave in fresh air, but when I open the bonnet to look for the leak I do not notice anything unusual. Has anyone else expierenced this? Edited April 8, 2012 by derekod Quote
chrispb123456 Posted April 8, 2012 Report Posted April 8, 2012 Sounds like your booster heater is trying to fire up but fumes are coming back through air inlet. To disable heater remove fuse 12 if the problem goes away then heater needs attention. Quote

As far as I know the booster heater is not working, but it is possible that it is attempting to fire up.The last time that I had al the codes reset I heard the heater running for the first time and that only lasted for about three days, and then it smelt more like a home external heater running on kerosene. I will remove the fuse and see if I notice anything. Quote
MadBaz Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 I had this when my booster was playing up, blower didn't always spin hence fumes coming back though inlet, it got quite scary once and we all bailed out, changed coolant run on pump and the blower seemed to 'dry out' and I've not had a problem since.
