Bioman1966 Posted February 27, 2012 Author Report Posted February 27, 2012 Great stuff, been looking on youtube, do i need to loosen off the Handbrake cable then? Cheers Bioman1966 Quote
zorgman Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 just make sure its off, you can wind the adjuster back its in middle of car, should be set at 6 clicks when fully on whilw working on rear caliper put a bit of wd etc on the handbrake spindle thats the bit the cable attaches to Quote
pearly king of surbiton Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 (edited) also remember 1.to undo the lid of the brake fluid reservoir as the level of the brake fluid will rise in the chamber as you wind back the brake pistons. 2.you will need to suck out some of the fluid as the level rises using a pipette or piece of tubing. dont suck the tube though because brake fluid is poisonous.3.also remember that as the hand brake is off, the car should be in first gear and on level ground with the wheels chocked with wood4. they sell the winding toll in halfords, it costs about 20 pounds5.tie the the undone callipers to the shock absorber to avoid straining the rubber hydraulic tuving which could cause splitting6.do not use grease on the calliper sliding pins because if it gets on the pads it will ruin them, a light amount of engine oil on the sliding pins themselves will sufficeall the bestjohn Edited February 28, 2012 by pearly king of surbiton Quote
Bioman1966 Posted February 28, 2012 Author Report Posted February 28, 2012 Thanks for all the replies, job done!! started with the offside rear which was siezed, no way could i move the piston, went down and bought the re-wind tool Quote
sparky Paul Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 If you don't want a secondhand caliper, another option is Brake Parts - they have new rear calipers for Quote
nicebutdim Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 (edited) Better way (and easier) of dealing with the brake fluid is to clamp the hose with a brake pipe clamp (not an expensive tool) and open the bleed nipple to drain the excess fluid as the piston is pushed back. It prevents any carp being forced back up the line too. (Sorry it's a bit late for your fix Bioman). Edited February 28, 2012 by nicebutdim Quote
