Skiddmeister Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 The auxilliary heater on my 1.9tdi has started gushing smoke from burning unburned fuel whenever I stop. I guess the igniter / burner or something is blocked or not burning cleanly? and fuel builds up? Anyway, given the age of the vehicle (117k miles) I'm not sure the repair is economic? Does anyone know if I simply disconnect the electrical connection would the unit just stop/shut down, - with no further supply of diesel to the burner? Or would this cause even more problems? Any guesses on this specific, or a more general solution, appreciated. Steve the Skiddmeister Quote
zorgman Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 yes if you unplug it thats the end of it Quote
chrispb123456 Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 Unplugging in situ is not easy, much easier to remove fuse number 12 it will not affect anything else.Don't put your winter coats away yet you will need something warm on in the car :) Quote
zorgman Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 thats the fuse i couldn't think of its number, my brain was in reboot mode Quote

Skiddmeister Posted February 15, 2012 Author Report Posted February 15, 2012 Thanks to you all... I'll look at replacing the glowplug, but after reading Ford's TIS documents it doesn't look as quick or easy as you imply? Then I guess I just remove the fuse... I'll let you know. Skiddmeister Posted February 15, 2012 Author Report Posted February 15, 2012 The auxilliary heater on my 1.9tdi .... Oops have I screwed up too - after looking around the forum I see that I mean the Booster Heater, not the auxiliary. It's the one that keeps running with a wheezing noise for about 15 seconds after we switch off. Except that ours now does it accompanied by seriously heavy dense smoke and a pongy pong. That's the one that doesn't loook too easy to replace the glow plug, .. unless you can point me in the right direction? Steve. Quote

Brash Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 Hi Fitted the new glow plug on my Gal 130TDI yesterday. Just over 2 hrs to fit and seems to cure the smoking problem like yours. Without the thread in F.A.Q I would'nt have tackled this. Cheers Phil Quote
