Recently the alarm on my mark 2 galaxy has been going off randomly, and yesterday it did it in the middle of the night, who made these sh1t cars and why??

The light on the car door flashes aprox. once a second or a little faster, anyone know what this could be?

FFS it's one thing after another.

The temp. does'nt get hot for ages and now after thermostat changed the mechanic says it could be sensor as it still takes ages and temp. gauge is fluctuating, the auxillary heater I have disconnected has dramatically improved the fuel as it was constantly on before even when car was stopped eating the fuel up for fun.( Disconnected it because changed 2 plugs on it previously and the 3rd started smoking at 50quid a smack what a fooking rippoff.

The radio aint working, the cables in the door were torn and windows did't work. I have a BSI unit without one relay cos it was burnt out and the mechanic disconnedted it giving room for the excuse it's probably that for everything that goes wrong.

The AC does'nt work cos the first time I took it in to garage whe I bought it the mechanic showed me the part on the bottom for AC that had nearly corroded to death so disconnected it. FFS

sorry to hear you having so much trouble with your galaxy, but to ask who made these sh1t cars and why can only come from a person who has made a decision to buy the car because he liked the colour

please don't take it the wrong way, but there are organisations out there such as the aa, or maybe a good friend, or local mechanic that could guide you in the future. but please don't rubbish the mk2 galaxy, as far as am concerned its the dogs bollocks..

vw made the car, had mine 4.6yrs few odds and ends and wont part with it best motor ive ever had,

as your using a garage thats why your dissing car, 2 routes here sell it or get a haynes manual and with that and us on here we can go thru car bit by bit methodical to sort it.

the aux heter for example only works about 10c or lower the sensor is just behind battery clipped to the solid arm on wiper assembly, your temp sender has failed only

Probably due to breaks or shorts in the looms located in the door/tailgate gaitors. See Technical FAQs (3 threads) for full details on how to fix.

The light on the car door flashes aprox. once a second or a little faster, anyone know what this could be?

This is the immobiliser light and when the car is locked and immobilised its normal for this light to flash once a second or so. (Common to all VAG cars)

The temp. does'nt get hot for ages and now after thermostat changed the mechanic says it could be sensor as it still takes ages and temp. gauge is fluctuating

Its normal for most diesels to take an age to get to temperature, especially in winter. If you have the heater on full it may not even get up to normal temperature at all in deep winter as the diesels are so efficient. Fluctuating gauge - if its dancing about quickly its a wiring fault - if its just drifting up and down it could be a wrongly installed thermostat or a cheap non OE thermostat fitted or simply down to use of heater in this sub zero weather. - THats why an auxillary heater was fitted.

the auxillary heater I have disconnected has dramatically improved the fuel as it was constantly on before even when car was stopped eating the fuel up for fun.( Disconnected it because changed 2 plugs on it previously and the 3rd started smoking at 50quid a smack what a fooking rippoff.

Yes, they seem to have a record of being unreliable but when working correctly they are great. Mine doesnt use much fuel, and they should turn off when the coolant level reaches a temperature of around 75 deg C (IIRC) - if it doesnt turn off then there may be fault - the coolant may be too cool due to thermostat problems or low ambient temperature/high heater use - a wing fault - some people have been known to deliberately short out the thermoswitch located over the pollen filter to force the unit to run - check this out. If it doesnt turn off when the engine is turned off then there is a wiring fault....

Remember that these units are fitted to high end cars as £1000+ options.

The radio aint working,

Not much information to go on, if it turns on but gets no stations check the connection to the antenna which is on the rear offside quarter window.

the cables in the door were torn and windows did't work.

See Tech FAQs regarding door gaitors

I have a BSI unit without one relay cos it was burnt out and the mechanic disconnedted it giving room for the excuse it's probably that for everything that goes wrong.

No idea what you're talking about with this unknown item

The AC does'nt work cos the first time I took it in to garage whe I bought it the mechanic showed me the part on the bottom for AC that had nearly corroded to death so disconnected it.

So change the part.

You should have inspected the car properly before you bought it if it had so many faults. Radio not working etc should have been obvious. Once sorted though, most owners love their shalaxys!

My sh1tlaxy was bought from a manager of a car sales garage, it was in spik condition untill all hell broke loose, he probably timed the sale just right.

The car wants to go to the garage evry other thing, and I hate cars like that, getting rid of this beast soon , if someone stupid enough to buy it.

cheers

If the aux heater runs on after you switch off the ignition, that's what it's designed to do in order to cool down properly, whilst it's doing this it isn't using fuel. When you changed the plugs did you change the gauze? Does the electric coolant run on pump work? If you do short journeys only/ pump not working, the heater will be short cycling leading to over fuelling (smoky starts) and carbon build up, this is documented by Eberspascher, but not by VW/Ford.

To lock the car whilst disabling the alarm and deadlocking, press the lock button on the remote twice quickly or turn the key to lock twice quickly , the door LED won't flash but you should see that the handles are in the lock position

There are known faults on these cars which is the same for any marque, however with the help of forums like these people can do their research before buying and get appropriate help afterwards. I bought a good un, but despite being fairly knowledgeable there were faults with it, not so unexpected for a 10 year old car. The help of this forum has been invaluable with my current MK2 and my now deceased MK1.

I am obviously biased but these cars are the dogs danglies, a bit frustrating at times, some stuff is by no means cheap to fix, but where else can you get such a versatile motor for the money?

Buying the sales managers car is one of the oldest tricks in the book, classed as a private sale to get around the warranty he has to give on a showroom sale. Most people would've walked ran away.

I'm sure the members (myself included) on here will give you any help that we can, please give detailed description of your faults and the spec of your car and I'm sure we'll be obliging.

Hey ,maybe there are good fords out there , i've yet to see one cos since my childhood [cortinas-capri's-etc,etc] ford cars were a bundle of faults and the owners were constantly in the gareage, I bought this after reading that most cars nowadays have similar reliability, but not pleased to find out the fords are the same garage lovers, OK an argument could be that it does'nt break down as much as the older fords but garages they still love.

And another thing I bought a ford with the presumption that being british I maybe wrong the parts would be reasonable but they prove me wrong again.

I was originally going for a mark 1 VW sharon and should really have followed that through cos I believe they were built better and less stuff to go wrong. maybe I'm wrong on that but thats my opinion.

The only plus I give to this is the drive is good and the reliability ie cold starts etc. but all newer car or most are good in that aspect now.

I think from now on I'm going to go for older models with less to go wrong like my phones which are exactly that phone and not little computers and cameras B) -- no electric windows no CC etc.etc. summat were I can change the bulbs without going to the garage or coming on a forum on how to do it.

Rant over, thanks for listening :18:

TBH, your list of faults isnt long - mostly down to gaitor wiring which is a common fault but takes only an hour or so worth of DIY to repair. The rest is not major and certainly can be rectified for very little money if you use the advice available here. This forum is mainly about keeping these cars going for very little money, its not a pimping, bragging or delusional forum like so many other car forums. Theres lots of down to earth technical guides by people who have been there, done the work and passed the knowledge on.

The nice thing about this forum is (mostly) everyone respects every one elses opinion, theres no lecturing or censoring of opinions here.(except foul language or insults) We are not perfect, sometimes the advice is a bit iffy but we all learn by our mistakes.
