was thinking ,(ouch)can we get new fuel filter fill with fresh diesel undo feed pipe an put into can of diesel just to start the beast up then put more diesel into tank when warm an leave running if it starts up that is what you think

Just think how lucky you/he was not trying it on the MK 2 diesel, end of the day once you have cleared system of the crap you should have no problems.

Filling the new filter with clean fuel will help as there's no hand primer, and you will have to rely on the starter cranking it to bleed the pump personally I use and old lift pump with a hand primer to vent the filter and pump, whatever way you do it finish by cracking open the injector pipes then crank over a few times that will bleed injectors tighten up pipes and away you go :) don't do it again

sounds good so far,his galaxy has got a hand primer fitted that a good sign or this getting worse hes away to buy filter just now weather heres bad wind an rain not good for fixing cars in the open lol

Don't blame him for trying mate with the cost of fuel these days, I newer thought a turbo engine would take veg oil very well.

I use a Diesel Peugeot 306 non turbo van for work and mix filtered old engine oil with diesel, 50/50 mix in winter and 70/40 in summer...works a treat, also tried 90/10 mix in summer and its good, just change all filters every 3-4 months.

Cheers

tried repacing fuel filter then just fed diesel out of container via the hand pump and cracked open the injectors.seems to want to start but as yet nowt now was wondering if the pump in the tank has suffered due to his oil mistake nothing pumps out of the pipe when we crank over the engine ? this is a first for me ,not sure about the galaxy workings at all was a merc man before any help would be realy useful lads as i have to keep giving him lifs everywhere lol thanx len

IIRC yours is a MK1 that means you don't have a pump in the tank, the fuel injection pump draws the fuel from the tank.

Correct, there is no electric or mechanical fuel pump in the Mk1 just the injector pump.

Are you feeding the new diesel direct to the injector pump?

I think the most likely scenario is the veggie oil has separated and the wax/fat settled and solidified either in a supply line, in the injector pump or injectors/lines due to low temperature. You could try warming the pump etc with a hair dryer (don't go mad though) to melt the fat, then retry, but use a clean direct supply of diesel to the pump itself as your supply lines may be clogged.

If he's still got some of the veggie oil left, put some in a jar and put it in a fridge and see if it separates. You can experiment to see what it takes to clear the wax/fat (heat, a bit of petrol perhaps etc).

Small possibility that the seals have been damaged in the injector pump though I don't think it would stop it working completely all at once.

Of course it might not be fuel related fault at all.........

good luck.

thanx for all the help so far lads will keep you all osted hope this thread will help others len

so far, changed fuel filter(new)fresh diesel fed from petrol can, undid return pipe to return to can, bled injectors, tried again wants to start puffing out smoke, but dies away.tried towing him a short distance with can under bonnet,do you think we are getting anywhere lads, tring to save him a lot of cash for the garage to have a look,i was thinking(ouch)get the injectors cleaned by a garage,we used cleaner today filled up filter first, lastly how do you empty fuel tank of his mixture cheers len

take pipe off underneath at the T joint where the aux heater pump is.

out of daftness get a tin of easystart and run motor with that to get things going, got a niggle in back of head that this is not fuel related but timing problem just doesnt make sense that it just cut out as tank would be warm off returned fuel so not a gelling problem. symptoms you describe is fuel but if its smoking means fuel is getting there but at wrong time. id not do nowt untill you check your timing as if its out its a head off job. btw pug/cit engines of the direct injection type will run on owt, brill engines xud is engine code if i think on

tried everything but no joy,you got me thinking about timing being out, could this happen as he was driving along? towed the car an got loads of smoke must be the injector cleaner working, now when he pops it into gear it makes a rattling noise? when just cranking over on the battery no noise its like it wants to start some blue smoke not a lot now now about this vaag com thing i think we boath need one should i just buy one on the bay and how does it work will look over the posts just now to see if any info hes gotto bite the bullit an put it into garage could be a divorce comming soon lol cheers so far lads lenny

forgot to mention that when he bought the car about 5weeks ago or so it was supposed to have had a new timing belt fitted the old one in a box in car and a sticker on the engine also new air filter checked filter but not able to check belt, its sounding like timing the more i think about it (well done that man with the niggle at the back of his head)could the belt have slipped a tooth then? he said it started to slow down then pick up a few miles then just slowed down to a halt mmmmmmmmmm i wonder? by the way when checked his fuel more diesel than veg hard to tell but i would say more like 60% diesel 40% veg

the story so far,car went into garage yesterday, they got it going but saw oil coming out of dipstick said it was diesel mixed with oil meaning that the diesel was going past the rings into the sump, they got it to idle with lots of smoke (blue)then it wont idle they started it with brake cleaner, now they think pump might be f*cked,or something else going to get the pump tested later along with injectors,so might be looking at a new pump(ouch)car just roars its head off then dies out looking like a very expensive job but i still think that there was something else going on the way he told me just dont add up to get that far then nowt strange ps he showed me the fuel out of the tank lots of diesel to small amount of veggie oils mells of diesel will keep all posted ps anyone have a spare pump if he needs one len

This whole story is starting to get a bit........

Oil/diesel coming out of dipstick??

Starting with brake cleaner????

If they used something like Eazistart, its possible they damaged the engine.

i was speaking to the mech. he said the oil started to come out thats when he thought that the unburnt diesl went back into the sump and was filling up till it was out the top?they are going to check the valve timing an pressure test the pump some air is getting in to the pump will have to wait till they get the fault codes done they are busy at the mo.said the brake cleaner is just the same as easystart only less addictive i was telling them about timing belt slipping due to bottom pully moveing(is that right?)they said that the timing will be checked also just got to wait but still need pump i think, the mistery continues

up date on car,it now seems that when/if the new belt was put on prior to my mate buying the car it was not fitted with a new kit,the belt is slack so the young lad (friends son) took a few mins to figure this out he used his hand held reader to record faults, which he then transfered on to his lap top and said there was a few faults which he said meant that some damage has been done like bent valves ect,but will have to remove the head to see what can be done.(anyone whant to buy lucky white heather lol)

Okay here are some facts. I ran Land Rovers for ten years on various WVO and SVO mixes. There are lots of snake oil practices and misinformation.

1. WVO (waste vegetable oil) is bad for the head, injectors and pump. If you use it you must budget for these to go wrong. So somewhere in the region of
