urs4_2008 Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Hi, does anyone know at what address I'll find the control module for the aux heater in my 2002 Galaxy? I don't get a response from 7D, which I guess is the normal location? Quote
ggobin Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 18 is the correct module - i had the same problem - if you still can not connect to the module - check the connector plug next to the heater under the car. I had to disconnect and drop the heater (easy job) and found broken and corroded wires, solder and heat shrink solved the issue. hope this helps Gary Quote
urs4_2008 Posted December 30, 2010 Author Report Posted December 30, 2010 Many thanks! I will check module 18 :-) Quote
urs4_2008 Posted December 31, 2010 Author Report Posted December 31, 2010 Still no response from the controller. The connector looks like it could do with some tlc, so the next step is to drop the heater and check the wires and connector. Maybe it's a quick fix to get it running. Does anyone have I description of what I should try to measure in the connector? Quote
zorgman Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 av a search on here ive put the full info for heater now getting bored of the same questions over and over about the heaters http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?app=core&module=search&search_in=forums Quote
urs4_2008 Posted January 6, 2011 Author Report Posted January 6, 2011 Thanks, Zorgman, now I know where the search is located. GGobin: You were right, I dropped the heater and the main power supply cord (the thickest wire) had corroded completely for a section of 2 cm on the last wire, near the plug between the heater and the car. I did some splicing, and now I can reach the control module. Also the heater started, but I think it overheats, so I guess maybe the pump isn't working properly. Fault code:01410 - Heater Over-Temp 06-00 - Signal too High I'll look more into it this weekend. Quote
urs4_2008 Posted January 6, 2011 Author Report Posted January 6, 2011 Does anybody have a schematic of the car's cooling system, with the sensors, the pumps, heater matrix and aux heater? If the aux heater is connected in line with the rear blower, I guess there's a pump that's not 100% working, or that the pipes are clogged. From what I can find, all the piping for the rear heater and aux heater is connected to the main cooling circuit via t-connectors, and that rear in the engine bay there's also an electrical pump for this circuit. Also it seems the aux heater is in line with the rear blower. So since my heater is overheating, it seems maybe there's not enough cooling liquid flowing in that circuit. The pump that has a plastic wheel connected to a steel rod that tends to fail, is that the electrical pump I'm talking about above, or the main waterpump? Any thoughts? Quote

Any thoughts?Hi The plastic impeller refers to early MK2 engine water pumps, the run on pump located on the bulkhead behind fuel filter and circulates water through the rear heater and the booster heater, it also has the job of keeping the coolant circulating for a few minutes after engine is switched off to avoid hot spots in the engine. It's also used when the car has the independent heating option.Check your pump is running? just turn on ignition without starting engine you should hear it humming if it's dead you will need to either replace or follow instructions in the FAQ's tech section to repair yourself. As Chris says its an easy one to test, just listen for it - the only thing I would point out is that there is a delay of about 10 seconds from ignition switch on to pump start (if its working) so give it a little while! urs4_2008 Posted January 6, 2011 Author Report Posted January 6, 2011 Thanks a lot, Mirez and Chris, I'll listen for the pump sound  Quote
tona955 Posted January 8, 2011 Report Posted January 8, 2011 Hi URS4, the plastic wheel connected to a steel rod in the AUX heater (Brown wheel) that you mention is actually to extract the exhaust gases from the AUX heater, the runon pump in the engine bay bulkhead pumps the water through the AUX heater. Hope this helps Quote
urs4_2008 Posted January 9, 2011 Author Report Posted January 9, 2011 Thanks a lot, guys, you were right - the pump was faulty. New pump is in, but now I've lost connection to the module again. I also suspect it's full of gunk. It reported errors on heater blower and flame out before it died. I think the next step is to mount a refurbished heater, as the price for the parts, and the time it takes to fix it justifies it. Quote
tona955 Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 HI I have a good spare working unit, if you are interested please drop me a PM. Quote
