Thought i would invest in a Vag Com cable (usb)from e-bay, and download VCDS Lite

Installed software on laptop, and plugged in cable to car and switched on ignition

Connected via Com 3 and did test and it recognised connection and interface so saved this

Went into select control module and picked aux heater

It started scanning but eventually small box came up that said No response from Controller

Am i missing something in terms of the set up, or should i enter any other details??

Thanks dave

Hi Dave is it working correctly on other modules, ie Engine, central Electrics, Auto HVAC

No Chris. Comes up with the same message on every modeule i try

I havent tried a full scan test yet, but assume it would be the same on this as well

I had exactly the same when I first got mine.

I tried uninstalling it and starting again, it was slightly better I managed to get into Engine but the real cure came from a total reboot of the laptop reinstall windows it been OK since then.

I reinstalled VCDS Lite but cant reinstall windows as it is a Company Laptop

When i click Com 3 and test i get a pop up box that says

Port Status OK

Interface Found

Type - Serial Pass through

opto /ISO No

Ross Tecg Design No

Latency test poor

6.9 10.0 15.1ms

I take it that this is the reason it wont work, but any answers as to waht to do next (apart from reinstall windows)

Hi Dave Latency can be adjusted from COM port properties.

Plug in your Vag-Com lead to the USB socket open device manager, double click on COM ports, double click on your saved port, then click on port settings then click advanced, you should then be able to see the latency settings, mine is set on sixteen try that or a lower setting this may work for you

Hi Mark

I am running on XP with the VCDS lite and you can clear fault codes and look at measuring blocks without buying the full version licence.

ps, miss them cold mornings winding up a Gardner or Cummins engine  these new euro engines are so boring no character.

There is your problem, you missed one of the instructions for installing.

You need to change the com port on the USB Serial device from 7 down to a number between 1 and 4 (what ever is free) to do this right click on the USB Serial Device in Device manager, and go to Properties, then go to the Port Settings Tab, click the Advanced button and change it from 7 to anything between 1 and 4 then close all of that - start VCDS and choose the same port as you just set it to and all will work

Hi Guys

Thought I would go out this morning and check my settings on the car, interface found etc latency good 2.0 4.0 4.2 my driver was sept 09 so I updated driver to the latest July 10 and low and behold latency test poor cant remember the figures but the thing is I can still access aux heater etc, went back into port settings and reduced latency to 3. Done the test button again now latency good 2.0 2.0 4.2.

You can google latency for an explanation (goodluck)

I think i'm right in saying you cannot access Aux Heater on the MK1 only on the MK2

Hi

I have the same problems as above:

eBay USB lead

COM3 tests 'OK' but with latency warning

VCDS doesn't connect.

I know the lead is adequate because it used to work with my old laptop and an old (free) version of Vag-Com.

It's the new laptop (and newly loaded version of VCDS) that I'm having problems with. I've had look in the Device Manager but I can't find any 'COM' ports. The OS is Windows 7.

Can anyone help?

p.s. I'm happy to re-install VCDS but I'm not going to mess about re-installing Windows - the risk of me cocking up something more important than VCDS is too high!

i take it that its a 1.9tdi as vagcom/ vcds will only work on the ford tdi on other fords just the airbags. so full details of car and might be able to help after 01 petrol os obd2 and after 04 diesels so vag com is useless after those dates

Yes it's an '02 1.9TDI.

As above I've had Vag-Com working on this car. It's the laptop (and therefore also software version) that's changed since last time.

Are you using 409.1 software or VCDS lite as the latency test is only on VCDS lite, also check COM port settings in device manager, you must be using only COM 1 to 4 and this must be the same when doing the test communication on VAG COM or VCDS lite software.

i take it that its a usb interface so have you installed the ftdi drivers that came with it if not download them if your stuck ill hunt them down and post a link
