the car looses the revs and dies i have had it in a vw garage all morning and they dont know what is wrong all the pipes are connected properly to and from the turbo i changed the airflow meter and it still going **** please does anybody know what is wrong with it or is it time to scrap it ps i have spent 900 quid on it in the last month alone ( flywheel and clutch)

are you sure when the cambelt was put back on all the marks were in line? as i know when my mate did mine he used a special locking tool.......
Posted
yes mate thanks for reply i used the locking tool and everything was set perfect the car is idling like a dream it just wont accept any acceleration i read somewhere in the forum that the maf sensor does not show up as a fault if it is faulty would that be correct and would have have to put the bosch one in any help thanks

I know when you get a faulty maf sensor that the vehicle feels under powered all the time, not sure about vagcom not reading the fault....

Did you replace the maf sensor with a vw one or just an after market one, because i have heard of people replacing with the cheaper sensor and still getting the same fault, but when changed with vw one it curing the problem....

Hi I bought one of those of ebay, made the car worse had to get genuine bosch from motor factors

thanks guys am going to try proper vw one today of brothers tdi golf will let u know how i get on im running out of options thanks again

cant see the maf doing the fault you got i ran mine without maf and it still pulls like mad, the maf seems to get the blame for allsorts on here when its a innocent bystander. the vw maf is bosch or pierburg so no need to go to veedub. try checking electrical connections on the multiplug on engine

changed the maf proper vw part but its still the same had the car back in vw garage and the one fault that is there is the camshaft position sensor - out of range anymore ideas the car is stuck in limp mode anymore ideas thanks

Did they say this could be causing the fault?

hi again they dont know if it will cause the problem or not but i have to bring it back tomorrow and they will read codes again the impression i got off them that it might be the turbo but there is absolutely no smoke so fingers crossed for tomorrow hopefully it wont be too expensive to sort anyway robpol do you know if a blocked cat could do this it seems to me you know what youre talking about good man many thanks

A blocked or clogged cat can cause issue's of poor running due to the engine inability to expel the exhaust gas properly causing a build up of back pressure...

Would have thought the garage would have explored this, maybe you could get them to take the cat off and check it..

hi took cat off car still the same no fault codes were found and now i am completely stuck vw mechanics dont even know what is wrong they checked the fan in the turbo wasnt siezed it was ok and i could hear it spinning with the cat disconnected so the only thing they can say is that the turbo might be scrap so do i go and pay 400 quid to find out that its not the turbo or what

thats it the galaxy is officially scrap car is stuck in limp mide and wont come out, changed all sensors no faults coming up turbo checked and working, cat removed and checked the car wont go over 2000 revs and it takes 1/2 hr to get to 40 mph so i am stuck without a car ps i have spent a grand in a month and i dont have a working car p.......d off

IIRC There is a small plastic ball at the front of the engine (Orange colour?) with a pipe going into it. This is the vacuum reservoir for the turbo control system. Check the pipe going in is not loose.

If you have any vacuum leaks (in any of the pipework), the turbo control sytem cannot control boost pressure and the ecu trips into limp home mode when the boost pressure is not as anticipated.

hi big kev i changed the fuel pump and still the same but i have to bring the car to a fella on monday who has another diagnostic computer and im hoping that something will show up on his that didnt show up on the vag-com ,you would think that the turbo wasnt working but i had it checked and was told it was fine so i am going to go back to the start to get to the bottom of this and i will keep yous posted many thanks for the reply it appreciated

Without wanting to sound like a broken record, you should investigate

Poor vacuum due to leaks in the vacuum piping (common), brake servo or weak vacuum pump

Stuck/sticky turbo vane actuator (very common)

EGR valve caked up/stuck open (very common)

TCS - turbo control solenoid

Blocked/dirty air filter/fuel filter

hi seat kid checked everything you listed except brake servo would this have an affect,

we are going to change 1 more thing and that is the wiring loom on the injectors

we are completely beaten thanks

Guess it time for the sunny jims, or hang a rangers flag out the window and drive through Kilwilkie.....

First thing you need to check is if the tubo actuator is moving. On the pd you cant see it directly. You need to jack up the car or drive it onto some ramps or bricks and go underneath. You still cannot see it directly and so need to use a mirror to help you see the actuator lever. Then have someone start the car and you should the actuator move. The full travel is 1 inch but even if you have a sticky turbo or dodgy vacuum system, you should still be able to see the lever move about half an inch. If you see movement, I would start to look elsewhere as the main problem and not at the turbo or vacuum system.

Second thing to check is BOTH the brake switches and the clutch switch. If you have vagcom, this is easy to check. My previous tdi had one of these switches faulty and the engine decided to stay in limp mode. Took me month to figure it out after changing all vacuum pipes, n75 valves, fuel filter and the accelerator pedal potentiometer.

Third thing to check is the accelerator pedal potentiometer. They can also be checked easily via vagcom but the part rarely goes.
