I've always fitted springs from motor factors, and have never had any problems. I would however always recommend using a recognised brand, such as KYB - KYB source springs from companies like Lesj Edited by sparky Paul

had a look today and as you say, the top nut looks fairly rusted up. Gave it a good squirt of wd as I have the pinch nut too, but think I might ring round a few places for a quote

Hi Quite a risky job if you havn't got the large spring compressor the TIS shows, I have used three or four (If i can get them all on) smaller clamps I only needed to change top bearings so didn't need to uncompress springs but you will.

I didn't have a problem getting that top nut off although it was quite rusty. Are you changing both? you may end up leaning to one side by only changing one.

A couple of good points there.

I didn't think to mention it explicitly, but you really should replace both sides, as said above.

I used two standard spring compressors on the springs without any problems, but they are pretty beefy ones. I wouldn't recommend using the cheap ones with the pressed steel jaws, they really give me the heebie-jeebies. :P
