I've just read a strange thread here that seems to have another forum's members stirring it up.......I'm puzzled by these antics.

Rather than fan the flames I'd just like to give you my opinion :D

I am was a member of 5 other car forums....none of them Shalaxy related. I've given up on all of them for various reasons. Briefly heres why.

1. A Vauxhall Corsa (d) forum - there was nothing of interest on here, hardly any posts, no technical information, just the odd moan about delivery delay. The forum has since gone tits up

2. A Fiat related forum - I joined trying to find some info about why my Corsa multijet engine is such shit. Forget it, this and other forums are full of "people" congratulating themselves on what a wise decision they made and how they can bling and "tuooone" the motors. They dont accept outsiders and are completely blinded to the truth abot "tuoooning". No technical expertise whatsoever could be detected.... I left due to direct personal insults made after posting some realities about remaps. I wont miss them and I chuckle to myself when I think of the struggle and expense they are gonna pay for that Fiat once the warranty runs out.......

3. A General forum as featured in a well known broadsheet. This has a large hardcore of "we know it all" members, some of who are moderators. Pointless to post anything as your opinion is seldom respected and things I know to be true are always questioned and myths (e.g. the "correct way to run in an engine" myth) are promoted and generated incessantly. They also talk mainly piffle, very little really useful information. Also moderators are trigger happy and dont like anything said about any manufacturer for "legal reasons" (real reasons is loss of boradsheet advertising revenue).

4. A Skoda forum - some (but not much) useful information but hard to find among all the "bling". Of little interest to me as the majority of posts is to do with VRS "mods" and "look at my shiney VRS".

5. A Diesel site - Diesel is God - woe betide anyone who mentions petrol. Completely dominated by an overbearing moderator who likes to get the last word and he can be quite nasty with it too. Only a handful of other members. Most of the talk is about things that are just not true. Also I was lambasted on my opinion of MY own Corsa. I apparently have one of the best, beautiful to drive, excellent engined car ever produced! (I would hate see what a bad car is really like..... ) Complete waste of space.

Despite the efforts of a few to throw me, and the same old newbie questions. I think I'll stick with this Galaxy forum for a while. Its got what I want. If anything goes wrong with my Alhambra, if it isnt already here, there are sensible people who are willing to think and help.........

in my experience, which was nothing before i joined here as this was the first forum i ever joined, forums are wide and varied.Different forums cater for different people, even two forums on the same subject.

On one forum i was threatened, harassed, recieved abusive email, phone calls, and my kids were threatened. Hence my quick departure from my last abode. This all because i didnt agree with personal attacks.

I belong to 5 different flying forums, each differs. One is a mine of info, friendly, people willing to help and has some very self opinated people on it. Ive crossed swords a few tijmes with a couple of peeps on there, but when people are wrong, they admit it.

Another i just browse for info on the different planes that are out there, one gives a lot of info for noobs to the hobby like me. and one is my flying clubs forum.

This forum, even though ive been called different things over the years, has earned my loyalty, not just for the info and help that has helped me save a lot of money, but also for the friends ive made on here, the support i have had when things have gone wrong, the understanding when i had to resort to buying a vectra when i lost my first gal.. its friendly, there is banter, and its a laugh.A quick wit is a must sometimes on here. And also patience.

This can be a volatile forum at times, a lot of people, different ideas, some believe they are right no matter what, and yes, you will get arguments and falling out. Isnt that a normal forum??

we are just here to help, all of us were newbs here at one point and we all came here for a reason, help. for those of us that stay on here, then the help we recieve and learn from..we pass to the newbies and they in turn will be able to help others.

anyway, thanks for your words SK. Mucho appreciated.

hi

ive not been a member long but ive always found people to be willing to help whenever they can and respond with factual imformation and from there own experience, some members obviously have huge personal knowlege that we draw on regularly others like myself can only offer generic advise

it would be a shame to loose good members because what appear to be a minority of people feel they know best and say so in an unnessessary way

perhaps because of the type of vehicle we drive many of us are a little more mature and this is reflected in our posts

keep up the good work people

and thanks

I am a member in just 2 other forums, S-Max owners (as I now have an S-Max) and a football referee forum. This was also the first I ever joined and hope never to leave.

Loved it when I first joined and loved the banter between members i.e. SA Intruder and a few others. I remember well when MUMO4 joined and the traumas she went through with her driving test amongst other things and it makes the forum that more personal and enjoyable and DIFFERENT from other forums.

I always pop on here at least once a week just to see whats going on and hope to for some time yet.

Just my 2 penneth worth

My first forum too, it's been a great help and even saved me a few quid as well, don't get in as often as I like (too busy being a trucker ;) ;) ) but I'm glad it's still here along with fresh faces and the old fuddies too  .

Quite simply put, this forum is more mature than most tuning boy racer forums, we are generally made up of professional/semi-professional people with familes, hence the large buses that we all drive on here, so this makes it a lot more sensible........or maybe not ! But you get my drift. This is the best forum by far I have evr come across, and I hope it stays that way for a long time to come.

I have never been a member of another forum. I don't even own a gal anymore but i still like the banter on here and the people i talk too and the fact that there is so much you can learn here. I'm sure a time will come sooner or later when i leave here but i can tell you this much... I will not be joining any other forum not even a volvo one i don't see how any other can match the people that are helpful here. So please please please keep this forum the way it is and guys and girls keep posting the helpful info for everyone to read and learn from. Edited by stevie m

This forum has to be the best - Cos I'm on it!

Seriously - I think this site is brilliant - It has saved me thousands and helped me stay alive by reducing the stress and tension associated with owning two Gals . I have learnt so much on here - I've had me moments and made a prat of myself - I've also enjoyed taking the mickey as well as posting loads of crap jokes. I've thrown me rattles out of the pram a couple of times - but I always come back because I like the people and the characters on here - ....even VR6!. Gregers - I think he's a bloody nice bloke even if he is a raving love machine- but apart from that it's educational in all the wider aspects - we even have a Physics teacher on here who asks us strange questions! Who else has all that and Mumof4 whose personal life is miles better than Eastenders,Coronation Street, and the Archers rolled into one.

Keep it going Maz it's brilliant.

i like this forum. i only found it yesterday. Bought my galaxy december last year due to suprise addition of 3rd child to already busy family  The car was reposessed apparently - and although its an 03 its in a bad way, and i need some help fixing all those annoying little things ( reverse lights not working, rear parking sensors beeping sporadically for no reason, drivers door "card" not properly fit).... so i am looking forward to getting access to the image downloads in the FAQ!

Compared to other forums i have frequented ( local musician sites, fantasy web games, etc) this site seems light-hearted and cheeky. I spotted a bit of web-windup action bu nothing which would send me looking elsewhere, especially considering the good quality info and friendly helpfulness i have seen so far.

so keep up the good work you Shalhambraxy experts!
