MadBaz Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 I need a some advice on this one peeps, got my MOT next month and I'm getting nervous! The secondary air pump on my Gal has siezed, can I continue to run the gal without it affecting emmisions/cat? Strange thing is it's only been on 2 years, prevoius owner gave me receipt. It was fitted at same place (Fraud dealer in Powys) that fitted him a pair of 95t unreinforced tyres I might add. I know there is a TSB on TIS which says a new pipe can be fitted in it's place but the ecu needs to be reprogrammed, is it worth taking it to my local dealer for them to sort? Or shall I just remove it, clamp off the hoses and never worry about it again? Quote
bigdaddy Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 The air pump is to help the cat to get up to correct temp, and only runs for a min or two, the only way it can effect the emissions is at cold start up, which I believe is not tested, just take it for a good blast down the road before you take it in for the mot. zorgman Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 i agree with the above as the engine has to be at operating temp 80deg c when they do the test thats why they have it ticking over, mine has never worked i took it off and binned it Quote
MadBaz Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 Cheers for that, I'll get rid of it this weekend, I was just a little worried about it not doing its job and the cat becoming contaminated/damaged. I don't know of any other car having an afterburner to warm the cat up. I could do with an afterburner to warm up the cat that keeps s******g in my garden  Quote
