MadBaz Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Well done Nick, I think your thru the worst, I gave up for 6 mts 2 years ago, we moved house and I thought just one wont hurt.... If your seriously having probs with irritibility you could ask gp for propranalol, it's what I've got, the dog loves em, cos shes now safe  Quote

As you go further down the line you realise just how big a grip that white stick has/had over you and you are in a fight. 100s of little nicoteen receptors in your head are urging you to take a drag, that's what your up against, resist I stopped, just stopped, 1 day 10 years ago, sometimes, just sometimes that urge comes back all guns firing, it never leaves you but it's only momentry, it passes in a flash. By giving up, the health benifits are unmeasurable, suttle, and lasts forever. You may well put on weight but between fat and fags, fat is better at least for a couple of years. About 10/12 weeks in, stand next to someone who smokes----------------'nough said. Well done Nic, well done, it's about the hardests thing you can inflict on yourself, giving up, ( although there is the wife and kids, nah, I won't go there,---love em' all  :) ), it's a battle but you can/will win. Edit immeasurable, immeasurable, immeasurable. Quote
mumof4 Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Even though i smoke..and right now have no desire to give up...i hate the smell of it on my hands and always wash my hands after i have had a tab.I'm not what you would class a heavy smoker as i only have about 10 a day.... I will give up though..just with all the stresses im under at the mo with hospital appointments looming, i have no desire to inflict more stress on me.Once iv'e been whipped in and everything whipped out..then i might. well...i'll think about it...maybe... But i do admire those that have given up. Hello Mum of 4, There is never a bad time to give up but I agree now is not the right time for you, enjoy. Quote
Guest HairyPlateEater Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Been given up for nearly 4 years now. Keep at it Nik and everyone else that has. Yes it's hard, but the difference to your health and bank balance is worth it alone. I used those inhalor thingies to help with keeping my fingers busy and the psycological issues of dealing with the loss of the physical act of smoking, which is almost as difficult to deal with as the loss of highly addictive drugs and poisons from your system! Well done mate .... keep going! Quote
NikpV Posted October 23, 2006 Author Report Posted October 23, 2006 cheers thanks for the support guys and gals Quote
Guest seacam Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Hang on, is it emeasurable, unmesurable or inmeasurable? Quote

Smilge Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 Both the wife and I smoke .... we love a "tab" and very rarely drink. Like Maz I hate the smell left on our clothes and we have both tried giving up numerous times but it only takes one to give in to the urge, giving the other an excuse. We both want to give up but we're waiting for that, " I don't want to smoke" feeling.....mmmm guess we're just weak! Quote
mumof4 Posted October 23, 2006 Report Posted October 23, 2006 can understand that..we had both given up for several months and the night before he was due to go to Afghan..he went out and smoked a whole pack...so i thought **** it...so i started again. Quote
