Thanks for that clarification, makes a little more sense to me now... Still cant fathom out how the fillaments on both bulbs, looked to be in perfect condition yet faulty.. ;) -
Pre Heat Flashing - No Rear Brake Lights- A Quick ?
koro replied to koro's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Well I replaced the bulbs with new ones, and hey presto everything now works,,,,brake lights and the preheat has stopped flashing.... I always thought that a bulb if blown would look obvious,,,assume sums it up... Many Thanks everyone -
Pre Heat Flashing - No Rear Brake Lights- A Quick ?
koro replied to koro's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
lol, so how can i get the pixies back..... The preheat on the dash is comes on constantly after about 20 secs, when I did a search I read about the light switch. Then had a look at the sharan and saw that I had no rear brake lights.... except for the high level working... So do you think that it is possible for the switch not to be faulty because of this? -
Pre Heat Flashing - No Rear Brake Lights- A Quick ?

Many Thanks Hi there Yes your brake light switch is proberbly still faulty, as there are two sets of contacts in it, is your cruise control working? Hi. thanks for replying, I dont have cruise control on my VW. -
Hi, I have done a search on flashing preheat symbol in dash.. From it, I realised that my rear brake lights arn`t working, pointing towards a faulty brake light switch... It has never been replaced, 110,000m on the clock My question is, that on mine the high level brake light works fine, could the brake switch still be faulty? I have also tapped up a couple of wires in the boot thingy, where you open the boot. Many Thanks

Hi, not a silly question at all, I thought the same.....loads of surfing and asking questions, the 2 posts before mine say it all.......

Hi, you may have seen my other thread on how to wire up a relay..... An update, took a live feed from the switch, P4 pin 8 (black /white). Through a inline fuse into a 4 pin relay. Took a live feed from battery, through a inline fuse. Wired back into the dipped headlights at bulb holder. And yes it all now works...Don`t know what the original problem was, but this fix will do for me.. Cheers Koro

An update... Into Halfords, bought a 20amp 4 pin relay, wired it all up as in my diagram...surprise, surprise it works.. The missing dipped headlights are back on again, sods law when I use them in earnest in the dark, something may go wrong....but fingers crossed Thanks to everybody that contributed, I certainly would not have been able to fix them without you. ( must add, I havn`t a clue as to what the original problem was, but this will do for me) Cheers Koro

Thanks for that,,, I got to get this sorted today, having the Mrs walking in front of the Sharan with a lamp at night, is causing a strain on our marriage....into Halfrauds..

Hi, thanks for asking... Just checked again, the dipped light bulbholder has a brown and a yellow. It was the yellow that I was going to conect to from the relay. On P4 on the MFU, there is a black /white feeding into pin 8 is the live feed, that I was going to use a switched live feed into the relay.(It I think is fed from the dashboard switch, voltage reading when I turn the switch on and off). Thanks

Hi just being nosey here, are you trying to repair a fault on your headlights or add extra lights? Would just like to say be carefull when wiring into lights on a vehicle with (bulb failure relay) thats the little amber symbol of a light bulb that comes on when you first switch on ignition and goes off when you press footbrake, Hi, on my VW Sharan "w" reg, 2000 1.9tdi, I dont get " the little amber symbol of a light bulb that comes on when you first switch on ignition and goes off when you press footbrake" The dipped headlights dont work, no voltage to the bulb holder, replaced bulbs, fuses ok, switch ok... I intend keeping the Sharan as as a workhorse until it dies... So as an inexpensive fix, though probably not the correct way of going about it. I intend to wire in a new relay and feed he dipped lights direct, throug the switch and suitably fused.

Many thanks for looking, if i get a normal 4 pin relay 20 amp, will it have a diagram on the top, so I know which pin is which? Is "normal" the correct terminology for a relay, the parts guy I go to, aint the most helpfull...
-
Looks good to me As in, yep thats the right way to wire one up,or good effort at the crap drawing, lol
-
[untitled.bmp Hi, hope this works, Got to say to anyone looking, this is a humble guess to how I would wire up a 4 pin relay.... If you can make any sense out of it, could you guys that know, have a look.....
-
Cheers,,, looking at your picture, if I use the live feed from the switch, would i disregard one of the other feeds in your diagram?
-
Hi, P4 on the MFU, using pin 8...when I turn on the lights I get 12v from it. So was thinking that would be a switched live into the relay...have I got that wrong.
-
Thanks for that, would I ask for a 20amp, 4 pin relay to the parts guy? I have a live feed from the switch. Would the second live come from the baterry. I dont understand by what you say the trigger live. Would the 20amp relay be ok for both dipped headlights How do you know which is wich on the 4 pin relay Sorry for all the questions....your drawing was masterfull... oh with the switch being a live feed, would that not make it as 3 live feeds going into the relay
-
Yes, main beam works ok.

Hi, after loads of googling i`m getting more confused... I intend placing a live switched feed into a relay and out to a pair of dipped headlights.. Which kind of relay would I need, and how would I wire it up? There would be 2 inline 10amp fuses to go in as well, do they go in before the relay or after? The confusing ( more so) bit, is that am I right in thinking a relay has another permanent live feed going into it as well as the switched live feed? Many Thanks
-
Thanks, but I wish the answer was that simple...2 new bulbs fitted..no voltage getting to the lamp holders, dashboard switch is working ok, live feed out.. I am convinced its the relay.....so am going to bypass that one and put my own in.. So, I am hoping someone could give me an idea as to which type of relay I should buy to feed 2 dipped headlights (with an inline fuse, 10 A). Would definately appreciate an explanation as to how to wire up the relay...please.. Here`s hoping koro

Hi anybody got any ideas....

Hi, fuse No`s are 59 and 60, both ok...whereabouts is the relay, would you know which one I`m looking for...and are they replaceable? On my original post, do you agree with what is written? Thanks for taking the time to answer.....

Hi, phew at last the forum is up and going..... Joined another Galaxy forum, helpful guys...trying to sort out my problem. Hopefully you guys on here will put me right. No dipped headlights working, at stalk turns off mains, nothing on the dipped lights.. Did a search on dipped headlights in this forum as below.. I don't think it would be the stalk as this does not switch the dipped off it only turns the main beam on and off. The dipped are always on if the headlamps are on. The only switch for the dipped is the main switch and the ignition switch. Is that correct? Both dipped bulbs been replaced, fuses ok. No voltage reading at bulb holder(yellow). Circuit around the earth is good(brown). The switch is ok, carried out various tests with volt meter.. Did voltage readings at P4. The Sharan is just used as a workhorse now, I will keep it untill it dies...If I cant find the problem, is it possible to bridge it across somewhere to the main headlights, if the above is true? Thanks for reading Koro

Well. it really is a simple 20 min job. As the sticky says, just turn the steering to full lock to access. No need to jack up or remove anything. Unbolt and replace. It was just the drivers side that had gone, so didn`t replace near side. Will keep the new one as a spare... Sounds so much beter now. If I can do it, so can everyone else....that is with thanks from the forum members

Not at all... If you don't know, you don't know - and you can only learn more by asking questions. Thanks... Went in and bought a pair for
