  1. Van powered by cooking oil A couple are travelling around Latin America to show off their van which is powered on used cooking oil from restaurants.
  2. I think you'll also find that its probably the old fashioned high sulphur diesel and so will not be particularly good for modern (esp CR) high speed diesels and a cat/dpf killer. How about heating oil diesel though?
  3. Following changes to legislation last year, (it is widely believed that) private use of up to 2500 litres p.a. does not require an individual to pay duty. (depends how you interpret the wording) Using food for fuel is morally questionable.....and messy. According to what I have read, provided you limit the mix (50% max) and avoid certain type/models of diesel fuel systems (mainly CR or those not made by Bosch), then it should work. Long term damage may or may not occur....no one seems to be sure. Problems occur when the temperature is low and the oil turns to a lump of fat and the fuel filter needs to be changed more often. Don't know how well Veg oil mixes with diesel, there are of course several varieties of veg oil - canola (rape) oil seems to be the recommendation. Of course, there are no additives so lubricant and cleansing properties are unknown. Quality control is designed for chefs and not motors. Opinions seem to be Mk1 Tdi - OK, Mk2 PD - Risky
  4. GLX - Generally Lots of Xtras
  5. So are kwik fit! (they own Charlie Browns btw) offer ends 24th May
  6. Apparently that style of driving is prohibited in leicestershire...... as quiet and sweet as a nut? :D
  7. ***STOP PRESS**** BBC News today.... "The Petrol Retailers Association says that average prices could go up as much as 5 pence a litre by the weekend. " ;) So I decided to fill up the cars tonight only to find that local Shell Station has already put their prices up by 4p per litre!!! ;) ;) What the f***? This is getting stupid!!!
  8. Cheap tat...not worth risking your life for.....
  9. With the price of fuel going ballistic and predicted to carry on relentlessly upwards, (150p per litre by the end of the year is predicted) , I decided in my own little way I must do something about it. I have now moved from 53mpgville to 56mpgville. Had a couple of pleasant day trips to 60mpgville - but they won't let me in to stay. In other news, Toyota have agreed to pay 30% more for their steel, platinum is predicted to rise 50% by the end of the year, etc etc etc. Fuel up, Tax up, labour rates rising..... Looks like the days of cheap motors and motoring are now numbered. Has the west's recent bingeing (through cheap credit and the subsequent credit crunch) and the pathetic response by central banks and governments finally sealed in an inevitable uncontrolled inflationary future for us and our children? I think so.
  10. Isnt it under warranty? I thought all shocks on the Galaxy were gas shocks - they can't leak (oil) so double check that MOT tester is not pulling a quick one.
  11. No your van is too heavy and the Jatco auto box is at the limit for the Galaxy alone. An oil cooler would be essential is you choose to proceed, dont know if anyone does this.
  12. Mk 1 Tdi (manual gearbox) idle speed is 950 rpm. It is not affected or altered by a/c or other auxillaries.
  13. Wear fewer/lighter clothes. Feeble air flow? Blocked pollen filter.
  14. If you garage your car and do such a low annual mileage, without tons of short journeys then I think its not unreasonable to go 2 years between oil changes. Your spark plug plugs should last for ever at 2000 miles per year.......
  15. You will be very lucky if you manage this. Considerable force is needed to push the piston back while rewinding it at the same time. I tried with pipe pliers etc... and couldn't retract it even 1mm. In addition I damaged the rubber boot on the piston... and its just not worth risking writing off the caliper....or wasting a couple of hours.....or a couple of days with the car off the road if you find you cant push them back and have to wait to get a tool (as I did)
  16. You may have worn the pads to the point that the spring mounting rivet has been ground off. You definitely need a rewind tool (About
  17. I would say your water pump is probably kaput.
  18. Fuse lists, numbers and ratings vary with production year and month, model trim , engine, gearbox, options etc etc. Its not possible to give a definitive list. You need access to wiring diagams such as those on the ford TIS CD.
  19. Checked the battery? Possibly one of the relays....I would have said relay 30 (fuel pump relay) but you say theres no spark.....
  20. If its corroded and within 50cm (or is it 30cm?) of a seat belt anchoring point then yes.
  21. Try releasing the handbrake and use top gear from time to time.....
  22. 99% certain is the gas is low - thats what the switch is there for.
  23. I don't think so, intermittent relay 30 is very common though.
