  1. Sorry but there are so many things that could do these things. from water in the dieselfilter, but you would see some smoke. to a worn dualmass clutch, which would be bad news but the shaking at tickover is one of its trademarks. But i do hope its something easy and cheap... goodluck.
  2. I would love to rap the pizza up for you to take home, alas health and safety concerning cooked foods insists it is eaten within two days. Being as you have driven here from you home some 30 miles away, i could not risk giving you the halk un eaten pizza, as you can see the rule is 2 days, not 3. But on a more serious note, you will be happy to note I was not surprised by your answer to the trye issue. I don't think you are doing yourself any favours now. But you could me one show a photo of you speedo again, one that was done lately not the 53 mpg one. i am just two photos away from offering you a apology for doubting you.
  3. Anyroad on a serious safety issue, i was shocked that you are still using tryes that are NINE years old! whats up with you? i was going to crack a jibe about the fact that you clearly drive so slow, it was not a safety issue and there would be time for you to change them before you reached the next set of lights. bur no this is a safety issue and you are driving around with 9 year old tyres! get em changed..
  4. Wrong....again.......Gio I'll give you a clue.....this is a recent picture of where I live......you can just see Mrs SK if you squint........ Which actually proves me right, lincolnshire to be precise you go to the region in lincolnshire called south holland [spalding area] and just keep going east....
  5. i thourght he lived in lincolnshire.
  6. 999 miles in 24 hours! you obviously slept for 8 hours halfway through the day. i commend you. What was that not to much gargling on the pizza? mate i would never spit on someones pizza, you gargle enough anyway... :16:
  7. I am surprised, i am surprised you didn't expect it to break down today. I also mentioned the shape of a brickwall, which is cdA, and not its cd, which does make a difference unless you are following a milkfloat with a remote to ALL the traffic lights! Was that you who caursed that traffic jam in leicester today? And you are correct, once moving and at very very low speed the weight would not be too much of a burden, but i thought we had discussed holding up traffic b4? Sorry was that "PRESERVATION OF MOUTHMENTUM"surely it was not momentum. But i do complement you on your ability to post and drive, you should get home soon, afterall you only popped down to the local shops. I am also wondering what victory you are expecting on the last lap! from that statement i can only assume you are running on fumes and have mis calculated. This is of corse a long distance race, not a sprint.. you may need a bigger tank. I conceed you have the bigger gonads, a jockstrap would have been helpfull though. Never the less keep googling or should that be gargling. :16:
  8. I do not think you should answer for me do you? the corsa, if new is using the 1.3 mjet engine [an award winning engine] The corsa does not weigh two tonnes, does not have the frontal area of a brickwall either so if you can get 56mpg out of the inferrior tdi engine running a lowish topgear of arount 27 mph/1000 rpm. them i assume 80 plus should be easy for the little corsa. Are you sure you missed judged the lights? could it have been that they changed from red to green and back again before you could get the galaxy to cross the junction..... :P
  9. Highlighted relevant points yes i take your piont, but i was in tyre mode, and that still holds true.the tryes will effect everything, speedo, mileometer and trip computer.. that was the piont i was trying to make. So please tell me you disagree....
  10. You have selective memory syndrome. I give up. :D Clearly if i did say what you claimed, you could show me the thread, to back it up..no? can you not find it? niether can i!
  11. seatkid, do not recall talking about speedos! solely trip computers. " Basic errors" whilst i like you description of the functions concerning ecu and different gear ratios ect ect. They actually have nothing to do with the debate, "strange i hear you say" but its not, all you are doing is expandind the debate outward, although it does look good and technical and correct. never the less non applicable. You see the ecu trip computer setting are the same for example. a 15 inch fitted tyre and the 16 inch fitted tyre. have the SAME circumferance [you will note that i mean the assumed same circumferance] Here lies the problem. i have said this before but different makes of tyre although given the same size rating, can indeed be plus or minus 1.5% The ecu cannot be programmed for that. Also whilst the trip computer is there to serve a task, its accuracy is alway going to be questionable until they rely on gps, which they do not at present. and your assumption that a speedo is inaccurate [correct] but the trip computer is more accurate? no, a speedo by law has set perimeters a trip computer does not it can be as inaccurate and more so than any speedo as no laws apply to it. And would any car manufacturer want it to be that accurate? no they would not its only a guide. And your 10% assumption that 53 mpg is 48-58 mpg range is incorrect because again you use the assumption that it is a plus or minus, but it is not, the trip over reads, if working normally, and does not under read. Now i have tried to explain myself a little better, so lets assume you are indeed the owner of a very accurate trip computer and it is aliegned pretty well to what ever tyres you have, ok? but there are others on here as well, so then i have to assume that they believe their systems are as accurate as yours?and therefore lies the problem. So it would seem, Everybody has what is the best/accurate tripcomputer, from a tripcomputer not known for it Whats the odds of that? and they have checked it against there own calculations as well. so they know its correct!!!! Amazing really......
  12. I think Gio, that you should sit back and think this one through. I remarked on your English, not to belittle or insult you but because to me it appears that English is not your first language and that you may either have trouble correctly expressing yourself or that you may misunderstand something. I am suitably chastened for incorrectly quoting you - I did make an error - something to which we are all - including you prone to do and for that I apologise. The point of the debate is as I understand that Seatkid and others believe that their Gals can achieve 50+ mpg on average use - your point is that they are wrong. You also state that mumof4 is wrong to say that individual vehicles will behave differently as the tolerances are so similar , Well have you not taken into account that apart from tyres, tyre pressures, state of tune, Clean Air Filters, tracking , weight - ie of passengers, and perhaps most importantly - driving style or otherwise will all have a large effect on this "Tolerance" ? It doesn't appear that you have. All that is required here is a little tolerance of other peoples ideas and opinions - prove them wrong if you can but don't take it personally or make it personal. Yes, I am a Mod - Not sure what your point is - but it certainly doesn't affect what you or I say. Keep contributing , keep teaching and learning - that is why this site is here . I take your piont/s. I am not here to "prove" people wrong or right, and yes indeed the elements you mention do indeed make a difference to the mpg, and no i did not overlook them,i replied to the post of mumof4 and her remarks, which i took to mean out of the box so to speak! clearly if anything i have indeed expected that the owners of these cars do maintain them to a decent degree as to make the difference very very small indeed. Now how on earth do you prove someone anyone wrong? on this matter? you cannot. And how do you prove me wrong? again you cannot, a picture of a trip computer showing 53mpg? Please we all know how to reset them, and please tell me you believe that the trip readings are near as dam it correct? tell me you believe they are within 3% and i will indeed except it and shut up.....But do not say it just to shut me up..... Infact the lastest showing is clearly the tdi, sorry thought they were pds, and the tdi's are renowned for being 10% plus out! just go and search a vw forum!
  13. http://fuel-guide-to.com/topics/diesel-fuel-economy.html. This should be helpfull to you. Or you may indeed be helpfull to others.....
  14. Thank you, for that explanation, mumof4. I welcome the honesty, and the non heavy handed moderation.
  15. Bigjeeze. Thank you for you wonderfull reply! [noting you are a mod] "you complain of posters english" Really when? lets get this bit straight shall we, i do not recall complaining about anyones english? I did note however the same theme was repeated over and over again, where person/s could not "comprehend " the context of my post, no matter how clearly i made the distinction, between average [long term] and touring! "Complain about people sticking togeather" No, that is what you have obviously been brought up to think. I note things,i do not complain, i remark, which maybe something you mis understand. but there is a difference. I recall mentioning two names only! unless everybody on here has multiple ids, that is a long way short of everybody!, but that statement does nicely fit in with the exaggeration theme that seems so strong with a few of the poster! "Arrogant" I will except that in the context it should have been made in, thereby yes i would seem arrogant I would use the same arrogance talking to a quick fit fitter if he tried to pull the wool over my eyes. Yes you are right this is a site for amateurs, i had fogotten that, but then there are some others who seem to think they are "experts" when clearly they are not! and believe they have some god givenright not to be challenged!. And no mumof4 is not right,as yet again you use a cliches, inaccurately.! which is poor grammar, which is not the same as poor english, which is the spoken tongue! This brings me back to my first language, whether it is or is not is irrelevent,as my sentance above shows you really should not make assertations or bring to the forefront others posters grammar skills. Unless that is to belittle them? in which case, may i piont out to you that persons who have english as a second tongue, and can actually use its grammar, are usually far superior in the grammar than....... well than me! Clearly making your assertatins concerning me, incorrect and insulting.! You also foolishly make the link [distinction] with long term posters sticking togeather, again Only two were strongly involved, and i see a few [long term members] had a different opinion, although i accept they were in no way as arrogant is i. But believe it or not, what really gets my goat more than any of the above is the acceptance of words like "toss" a derogatory remark which is meant as a belittling remark, and your attack on my grammar skills which in the light of some of the launguage used is dam right insulting.. Everything else you wrote i more than accept and agree with. regards gio, who maybe should use a spell check but arrogance stops him from doing so.
  16. I am sorry, this thread was about LPG, hold my hand up to being part of the hi jack. never the less, Yes i believe LPG is a good idea for anyone thinking of keeping a car for at least 4 years or for towing a caravan. even more sorry as it was not about LPG.!
  17. Are all your posts the same, because boy do you go on and on about what you know over and over again "excuss me i corrected myself" not before the thread had run and run and run, and again you went on with the "i know" over and over, which incidentally you actually didn't know! YOU CANNOT ACCEPT quote. incidentally it was seatkid i could not accept, but just lately you have decided to throw in with him, almost after the fact so to speak and rekindled this thread.! but good try with the pathetic attempt to make out i do not accept what "EVERYBODY SAYS" no it is actually you and seatrkid lets get that straight shall we. And please do not insult my intelligents, or for that matter anybody elses with that silly "no two galaxys are the same" rubbish. The tolerances are not that greater a percentage to make such differances up! But then i see you and seatkid are mechanical engineers! who understand the fundamentals of the diesel or any engine to such a degree that you will understand the mechanics of a vehicle with a CO of 178 and a cda this side of a bus weighing in at near as dam 2 tonnes, and then be silly enough to say how easy it is to get 53 mpg out of it as an average, and if anyone is daft enough to dis believe, you will then tells what a wonderfull driver you are and what an expert you are at economy! Nothing like blowing your own horn is there? but wait Gio has not blown his own horn Gio has not claimed what a wonderfull economical driver he is.Gio has not challenged someone to a economy race in one breath, then stated they may never meet! [seatkid] no. Gio has stated that he doesn't believe you can get a average of 53 mpg, DAY IN DAY OUT. Gio has stated that he excepts this is possible when TOURING WHICH IS DIFFERENT TO AVERAGE!And also Gio does not give a toss about what you think or think you know! All that bothers me is when some new galaxy owner comes on here and complains that he has bought a galaxy and finds it mpg to be poor {average 40/45mpg} and reports i thought it could do over 50 easy. And some will reply" its your driving style, cause i know bla bla bla" Good night.
  18. Gio, you're the one SHOUTING. I think Gio has a problem believing people can know what they're saying. For instance....did you know that 1. Man has been to the moon 2. That someone managed to cross 1,223 kilometres (760 miles) of the Alps on less than one tank (50 litres / 11 gallons (European) in a bog standard petrol Golf. 3. That computers are just a passing fad and slide rulers will eventually replace them.... did not mean to shout, will try to edit! Interesting facts, what is the piont. Iam still more interested in you replying to the lost 15000 miles average? you have had plenty of time to come up with a why you contridicted yourself. You are right about gio having a problem believing though, as some seem to lack basic maths and what average means! Are you still googling!
  19. YAWN. SO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS YOUR TRIP COMPUTER IS 100% Likewise i do not give a toss what you think,as i still recall your approach to me telling you 6th gear and 40 mph was a no no. And you screamed and you screamed and finally as i recall it realised you where in 5th gear! But what does amaze me is even when i explain to you, and others what average really means, you come back with answers that are not average based ! and then argue the toss! over something you simple do not understand because of the red mist in front of you!
  20. Sorry that is not an answer. You either do or you don't. AVERAGE. just incase its something some seem to have forgotten. is when you take all the miles you have done, divide it by the fuel used to find your average. Average. is not going along at a steady speed once the bus is warmed up and talking photo shots of the trip computer ! [which is not that accurate in the first instance] ! In otherwords i am sure you can get 53 mpg up on the trip computer. alas your not even getting 50mpg. and please do not come back at me with miles divided by tank fill up, cause yey again someone has tried to use the trip computer as difinative proof!!!!!!!!!!! and it aint accurate enough to be used for anything other than entertainment!
  21. All you would have to do is tuck in behind a artic, but that was never the piont, and easy it is not. The piont was this is an average mpg, day in day out all road conditions summer and winter [mpg falls in winter driving] Which for a bus the size of the galaxy and its weight is a fantastic ave mpg, unless that is you do not drive in a considerate way and hold up everyone including milk floats.... Touring mpg, ok thats touring thats long distances, where you can offset the poorer mpg from the cold engine or the rural run. but average 53mpg, day in and day out? from a galaxy? yer right . me best i got was 50mpg over a 514 mile run from italy to luxemburg, i could do better i think but not for one moment would i claim to be better than someone else at getting great mpg, only a fool would make such claims. And anyone who thinks there trip computer is accurate to within 6% or so, must believe the harry potter stories. too..
  22. Now that would be interesting to see!!..all those who claim to get the better mpg out of their vehicles could either prove themselves right or wrong. Well i am sorry if some think i went too far ! but most of all i am sorry that seatkid, thought it best to start on a similar subject than actually answer a straight forward question like what did you average for the other 15000 miles! It wasn't a hard question to answer, not given his background, but instead decided to offer a stupid challenge that he has no intention of making happen? Yes, some take it far too serious, but then you did make some outlandish claims, and forgot what you had said previously! So yes why should i not be suspicious, when you are unwilling to answer the small matter of the missing 15000 miles mpg! Whatever i post i am always willing to be challenged, proved wrong,or anything inbetween.... You could learn something from that...........
  23. That may well be with yours gio, but I checked mine regularly over the first 20,000 miles and found it to be accurate +/- 3%. Also checked speed/distance calibration found speedometer < 3mph optimistic up to 75 mph and odometer accurate as near as dammit. Used my firm's GPS gear as reference. Unusual, granted. And I get 800 miles per tank...... Let's face it, some guy's are born with a special touch.....ask my wife :16: My Skoda's speedometer is on the other hand a full 10% high over its range and its fuel trip computer is between 5 - 10% optimistic  ? confused here, remembering an older post, you claimed that you averaged 53 mpg over 5000 miles, but you have actually done in excess of 20000 miles! So what is your average for the other 15000 miles. As for your claim that you trip computer is accurate to 3% ! Sorry, i am assuming that you have 15 inch wheels [make not difference if there 16s] My speedos less than 2 miles over reading, my trip computer is 8% over note was almost 10% till i changed my tyres [have falken on the front 1.6% larger circumferance than that stayted as average for 15 inches tyres [mine are 16s] still 1% larger than those. Your speedo is over reading by 4% so it would be amazing if you trip was only 3% out! and your mileometer was near as dam it spot on! I say this as you seem to have everything covered but the tyres! which make a hell of a diference, something you missed.
  24. Well, I put it down to a healthy lifestyle, stunning good looks, high IQ, sympathetic nature, a little bit of good luck and the fact I am a damn good driver! THANK GOD FOR THAT! The good old lie detector! mate i get more than 53 mpg on my lie detector. but never get that in real life.
