  1. interesting, but i do not drive a tractor, it may sound like one but it is not. http://bioengr.ag.utk.edu/Extension/ExtPro...es/coldstrt.htm
  2. Sorry i thought SK said a heated garage, and yes i have said many times in the past how a cold engine will use more fuel until warmed up,and to be honest a brick garage at 3 degrees or outside at minus 4 will make little difference as the car will still take 10 odd minutes to warm up,maybe a minute less for the car in the garage......
  3. "sound advice" And i will take it, just wondering what type of heating to use in my double garage? i have a calor gas fire, but clearly that is not a good cost effective way to heat my garage every night through the winter as the better mpg i will get in the first 10 minutes would not cover the cost of keeping the garage warm all night ! sound advice!
  4. I would have thought that a 1000 miles on a tank full was highly possible, just follow seatkids example, only drive when the conditions are favourable. :o Diesel prices have almost doubled since the early 90s, and dieselcars on the road have gone up by 3 fold ! " in the winter don't forget" to but some slippers over the wheels as well.! B)
  5. But surely the describtion of the british officer is incorrect? would he not have been somewhere else with fellow officers unloading their guns into a innocent passenger on a train .. And there are not enough "clicks " for the american officer, as surely he would have pulled the trigger atleast seven times before realizing he was out of bullets....
  6. Short break away in the caravan. but have been going through this sites threads A hell of a lot to read ! but a hell of a lot of good practical info too. Right back to those threads, now where was i, yes bloody aircon problems! specifics, high pressure on low side, low pressure on high side!
  7. Actually in the vast amount of typical MAF faults, mumof4 is indeed correct, but electronics being what they are, there will always be a few spanners in the works.Indeed you could add that many have changed their MAFs,believing that to be the problem and for a time it has indeed improved the running performance.Only for a loss of performance to return a few months latter and turn out to be another faulty sensor[not maf] bloody electronics.
  8. Yes of corse there are bad landlords,as there are bad car traders, cowboy builders ect ect, no it was the BLT statement and maybe this new generation of property owner is only out for a quick buck, but i cannot believe they control the market that well as to have such a great effect on value. A good example is northern rock, look what is happening, they have yet to dip into their speical fund, but the punters have taken 2BN out of them! Its dam right crazy, and the same applies to the housing market, and the same thing will happen that happened in the late 80s early 90s. When people panic strange things happen, they are told there is a shortage act accordingly and look what happens. If they did not panic, things would be more stable.
  9. Some very interesting response, not sure what is the real cause of the housing shortage/high prices, but if we are going to look to blame BTLs and the likes for the problem, then surely we should expand it further a blame the whole economy system on people taking out credit of any sort? Yes i own property, but have never owned a new car. My money, i will use it how i like to improve mine and my families style of living.Whats wrong with that? I recall the tories back in the early 80s giving every council tennent the right to buy! with no thought for how councils would replace these properties that they were forced to sell at incredably low prices. To slate anyone who rents out property as some sort of greedy cheat is an insult and i would suggest a little bit short sighted, afterall so many people have private pensions and do not give a toss where this money is invested to fund their retirement. Neither me or my wife have a private pension,we invested in property over 22 years ago, thats our pension, its also something to give our remaining son,[16] when the time comes that he wants to spread his wings so to speak. BTL no way, prudent retirement plan definately, but it came at a cost, no new cars outside our house. You take your money and make you choice......
  10. aviod barclays apparently? might have something to do with there interest rates though. source radio 2 money expert
  11. And of corse i accept that, never the less its hard to see the relevance of your response to my post regarding the 1% above the base rate? I am stating the rate that the bank of england has set for northern rock and you are talking about a"mass of banks using up 4.4 billion pounds of bank of englands special funds? you are using this as an example to show 1% above the base rate is the same as you earlier statement "a great deal higher rate" But when you are talking about the arangement between northern rock and the BOE. it is not, given the arrangement is a blank cheque , this is an exception good deal for northern rock, when all things are considerd. And please what is it with you and the threats! If anyone should be annoyed it is me and if people read those earlier posts, they will see exactly how you came across, even if it was not meant. As for your last statement ! imagine if i have annoyed you by simply stating what the facts are in these posts, with no intention of malice, or to annoy you, then if it was to get heated, {you are already annoyed} and i@m only trying to be polite can you imagine what would happen if i was annoyed! Bar me getting ban that is... so chill its friday having a beer or cuppa......and relax....
  12. My piont is you read my post with the line "1% above base rate" and assumed it was a go at your post. had i had used the exclamation remark then you would have been correct to come back at me, but i did not so your comeback is somewhat out of place and irrelevent to what i posted.....
  13. You are right i of corse as you stated originally that northern rock had indeed been lent the money at a far greater level than the standard base rate, and of corse 1% is indeed a far greater level !. god forbid what 2% above the base rate would have you responding with!
  14. Perish the thought, just asked about the ! exclamation remark. had i have said " sorry, yep 1% above the base rate" and ended it with !, i could understand your remark, but i did not, so have every right to ask why you thought it was acceptable to respond with an exclamation remark! infact to respond full stop to my post thats was a correction and showed no malice what so ever, yet you seem to have read it that way!
  15. Sorry i do not understand the ! remark? i stated the % rate thats all! But always one for knowledge, maybe you would be so kind as to tell me which banks have borrowed billions from the bank of england over the last few days? thank you.
  16. Not wanting to sound padantic but "the turbo went" ok 50k is a little low but it does happen and i would be happy for a NEW TURBO to be fitted,it is new? please check and please check what warranty the turbo comes with.If only 3 or 6 months then it cannot be new and if its second hand then i would not be happy and i would advise you to go back to trading standards. If on the otherhand it is new, then you are lucky it went now and at no cost to yourself, then that one major worry out of the way.. enjoy. And make sure they change the engine oil too, no matter if it was done just the other week.
  17. . Sorry, yep its 1% above base rate.....
  18. No real need to worry SK, the bank of england has given them a blank cheque so to speak, and at a good rate, not higher rate. Also as long as your money is in a deposit or savings account it is safe to the sum of
  19. Of course it would it weighs 1.7 tons Do your wagons get as good mpg as your cars ? Funny i read somewhere on here how weight does not matter!!!!!!!!!!!!! but my lorries do have a frontal area 4 times greater if that answers your question!
  20. No they all have trackers, and whilst its not 100% accurate the are a good bunch of lads and in the 2 years i have run the office 1 red trafic light violation and one speeding, which is not bad when you have 15 lads working for you and even i get called out. Our vehicles are restricted mostly by law but even prior to that the older vehicles were restricted to perform better mpg than if not ristricted, But i was merely talking about averages, and obviously my perceptions are indeed different to others. My galaxy was bought with only one aim, to tow a caravan with a mpgw of 1500kg, It does not get used around town, nearly all of its mileage is out on the open road,so no journey is shorter than 15 or 20 miles and most a hell of alot longer.the galaxy to me is not a economical vehicle in diesel form it does well i average 46 mpg, to put this in perspective, my previous towcar vectra tdi averaged 49mpg. the cavalier 17td isuzu engine 52mpg, even my old alfa 156 2.4 jtd was better on diesel and my replacement 156 2.4 mjet as good. But they ALL travelled at a great rate than i travel in the galaxy. so you get 53 mpg from your galaxy fine, but i would then expect you to get far greater mpgs from the vehicles i listed above,so to put it into perspective the galaxy would still be low in the table of cars when it came to mpg/ do you get the piont. SK, there is a world of difference in remarks that could be construthed racist and being called slow, but then like you i did not realise that saying slow could be taken to mean old fart, so piont taken.
  21. There goes the selective memory switch! - tripped out again! If you're going to quote me, quote me correctly - 60% town and that was a "guess" Forget the pizza, there's a better place closer and they don't give even half the hassle......and don't expect a tip! :16: !!!!!!!!!! But everybody knows you dont guess, you are always clear and factual! i take you at your word, which is what you wanted. make your mind up! And you best read my previous post boy.
  22. I believe you said something about opinions, but this seems more like a statement than an opinion! The simple fact is i run a transport office. My drivers have limiters fitted to their hgvs,54/ 56 mph we have to estimate what they can and cannot do in a day. 9 hours max driving but extended to 10 hours twice a week if need be.your average speed which i believe is in a car is what they come close to doing day in and day out. no we do very few town centres but sooner or later we pass through towns and cities. The worse route for us is leicester to norwich or great yarmouth [excluding greater london] and given the time wasted on accelerating and breaking norwich is still done in 3 hours and 20 minutes 140 miles at 42.42 mph. We are 115 miles from central london and excluding rush hour our 7.5 tonne limited to 65mph, but will be sold b4 the end of the year due to having to be limited to 56! will run the journey in 2 hours and 20 minutes. 50 mph including the roadworks from hamel to luton. So i can only assume your journey was on a not so average route or major delays occured, and they do occur but it woyuld be bad luck if this was always the case. Now i have until now let the pizza statements go, because i realised that SK did not realise his statements could be deemed biggotted and racist. But given the fact you assume me to be Italian, [pizza jibes] and now you find it ok too! i thought i would piont the fact out that you too are now using the pizza jibe, and before you comeback with any jibe what so ever concerning my sensitivity or you give it but cannot take it rubbish, the facts are whether you meant it or not, i have now pionted it out to you.and it is deemed so... thank you
  23. to quote you " you do 60/40 rural /urban, so you do not just drive around town! which if you did yes even 20 mph average would be fine, but you do actually drive where the speed limit is greater.!
  24. Why the doubting tom "regret this" that my job, anyroad i saw you average speed correct me if i am wrong it showed 23 mph, which i would assume makes you a tootaller, in which case anything is possible even an average of 53 mpg. But certainly not the type of driving i would do, but each to there own.
