Time To Trade In The Bus ?
malcolm.dobell replied to scrote's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
My three penny-th I'm currently in Val d'Isere 755 miles from home. average 43mpg from my Alhambra 130 SE PD. Although numberous complaints of sore bottoms from my family, for me, a well upholstered 57 year old it was truly comfortable - cruising at 75 with cruise control up and down some reallt steep hills and up the mountain roads to the resort. I have never had a vehicle as good as this one and am really struggling to think what i might want to buy when the family moves out! -
I'm sure a kind soul will fill in the details, but the story goes something like this: TDI 90 and 110 engines had cam belt change at 60000miles When PD 115 was introduced, the interval was set at 60000miles, but after reports of premature failure, quickly reduced to 40000 miles. At some time in 2003 the design was changed and the interval restored to 60000 miles. Mine, a March '04 reg 130 Alhambra with 52k on the clock get done tomorrow with service and MOT; my second mortgage is lined up

I have 17" wheels on my Alhambra - standard fit on the version I bought it uses 225/45x17W reinforced.

Windscreen Wipers

on my previous mark 1 the fastest speed was sometimes intermittent. in the end, after finally being able to demonstrate the dault to the dealer, they diagnosed and changed the stalk switch -
Does your phone line sound OK? Do you have any crackles? When did it start - during all the rain last week - has water got in somewhere? Are you connected to the master socket? Can you unscrew the master socket and plug into the socket that the master plugs into? Sorry - but they're things you can check yourself. I had a duff master socket that BT replaced

My brother in law has a mark 111 and has a dog. The carpet/trim material seems to work like velcro hooks on dog hair; he'd had it for 3 months and it was abslolutly filthy! full width rubber mats or a moulded liner a must!!

There are lots of 225/45x17 94W tyres available. Many more are available now than when I first got my 04 reg Alhambra with these tyres. Any reputable tyre dealer should be able to get htem within a couple of days. I've had Michelin, Continental, Hankook, and Toyo and all seem OK. quite expensive though!

there is a hadle on the seat base that permits seat height to be adjusted. on swivelling seats there a similar handle on the other side of the seat to release the catch that stops the seat swivelling when you don't want it to! If your current seat doesn't have this handle you might have a problem!

Can I ask everyone who speaks about tyres to quote the size. older Gals have 195/65x15 reinforced - which are the smallest and they go up to 225/45x17 with 205's, 215's and 16" rims. Then there's those who fit even bigger rims. Each size has its fans and detractors and you can't read experience though to other sizes. You certainly can't make price comparisons between sizes. My experience for what it's worth is that 195's had the least life, 215's next and 225's best. However cost per mile was about the same as the wider tyres are much more expensive than the narrow ones - brand for brand. I'm not one for a rant; this is the nearest I get!

Size Of Spare Wheel Holder?
malcolm.dobell replied to neiluk's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Yes, my previous Alhambra came with 5 alloy wheels and tyres, all the same size - 215/55x15 this is same overall size as the 215 tyres on 16" rims. Space savers are an absolute b****r, aren't they? -

Dear mumof4 from dadof4! (to all others - no other connection!!!) If your PDA is new, then when you installed the drivers and so on you've installed OUTLOOK which is a grown up version of Outlook Express; it's great when you get 100 emails a day - as I do at work. At home I use Outlook Express. Do you normally use Outlok express or just leave the Email on the server at Tiscali? If you use an Email programme on your computer, look at this: http://email.about.com/cs/outlooktips/qt/et100701.htm. This tells you how to set your computer to use outlook. However, If you follow the instructions, but where it tells you to select Outlook, you select the programme you use, that should get you back to where you were. However some emails will still be in Outlook. If you want to retreive those, I'm not sure how to do it, but I'm sure some other kind soul will tell you. Do you want to import email into your PDA? - if you do then you're stuck with Outlook and I sugest you explore the 'net for tutorials or even buy "outlook for dummies" or some such computer book. Malcolm

I had a problem with my high speed 512kB/s connection dropping out. Eventually, with absolutely everything diconnected except the router/modem, I unscrewed the master phone socket and found it plugged into another socket behing the master one - if you get what I'm saying. Engineer came and diagnosed defective socket, fitted a new one and no problems from then. The symptoms of my problem were similar to what you're reporting

I think you're referring to a Ssangyong Rodius. When a photo appeared on Top Gear Hammond/May/Clarkson dissolved into uncontrollable laughter!

I get (on '04 plate 130 Alhambra) 26 around town when I'm caning it (we have 60 and 70 mph speed limite within 0.5 iles of the town centre) 32-34 around town when I'm not. 40 - 46 on a long run. these are from the computer. I don't monitor via mileometer and fuel put in the tank. Fuel used by the auxiliary heater is extra so figures are worse I'ts much better (faster and more frugal) than a 2.0 petrol I once had. I'm convinced I could see the fuel gauge going down as I drove at motorway speeds Hope this helps

What Tyre Size Should I Use On 18" Alloys ?
malcolm.dobell replied to muffking's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
seems to me that if you increase the overall diameter you might fill the wheel-arch better but on full lock you might actually hit the wheel arch. I have 225/45x17 on my Alhambra and there's precious little space between tyre and arch on full lock -
Help Please!..laptop Nay Working...
malcolm.dobell replied to mumof4's topic in Internet and computers
Oh dear, you are in a pickle Is it under warranty? Is there a help line that's not outrageously expensive? I don't know Acer; I have an Evesham and they're very helpful, but whoever they work for human beings are usually good at providing useful help in situations like this. Making a copy of the operating system from your computer in a form that can be used on another is not for the faint hearted. If one is XP Home and the other XP Professional I'd be full of trepidation!!! However, you could try this....http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545, but I frightened myself just reading it! And you need a Win XP disc -
Help Please!..laptop Nay Working...
malcolm.dobell replied to mumof4's topic in Internet and computers
Dear Maz You should try using Google to help you by copying and pasting your error message: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system I have done this and there are a number of entries most of which appear to be highly complex, but it looks to me that it's telling you that there a registry file that's corrupt. If you can find a way of getting into Safe Mode even at the command prompt - one of the options offered if you press F8 whilst starting then you can try System Restore. Instructions for using System Restore from the command prompt are here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304449/ If you aren't familiar with System Restore, it can "magically" reset all the system files to an earlier time when you know it was working. see here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/h...temrestore.mspx If you manage to get into the computer, make sure it's virus free and free of adware cr*p. There a free interrogation tool in here: http://safety.live.com/site/en-gb/default.htm?s_cid=sah Good luck Malcolm
