  1. Hi everyone, the tailgate on my 98 Sharan is currently being eaten alive from the inside by a very aggressive rust worm and I was wondering if the tailgate from a 2001 model would fit or did VW Ford make too many changes on the facelift for it to work?
  2. Have a look and see if they are near you. despite the name they do sell to the general public and when I bought my oil earlier on this year it was on offer and it is the official VW stuff. http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/
  3. For us it is Privilege who came up with the best deal. They also were the best on our other car which also had our son and daughter, 21 and 18 yrs old as named drivers. Following a crash which wrote off the Punto, which was the other drivers fault, they have been really good looking after us as well. Time will tell if the same applies to them with the Polo we have just replaced it with.
  4. Also check the ABS fuses. The fault light came on on mine but the fault was listed as 01276 ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64) 16-10 Signal Outside Specification Intermittent I checked everything out and sure enough offside front ring was broken, replaced this and the sensor but it made no difference. After realising that after clearing the fault code it returned as soon as I tried to access the ABS controller I replaced all the ABS fuses and this cured the fault. Why two faults should happen at the same time I don't know but it may be worth a try.
  5. Most of the trips done in my car are just local with the engine rarely getting up to temp then I admit to playing on the very safe side! managed to find the recipt for the oil and it was
  6. As you are using a VW engine then it might be worth trying a VW dealer or as I did for my non PD engine their own parts company The Trade Parts Specialists, http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/, as in April this year I paid
  7. Think I'll stick to Firefox which I use on both a Mac and PC and will only think about changing when Microsoft have released at least 5 updates to IE8 which knowing them won't take long.
  8. Hi everyone, just been playing with my new toy, VAG Com, and found that at tickover the injector pump timng reads 2.6BTDC Specified Start and 2.9BTDC Actual to Start. Looking through Elsawin the way I read it the figures sould be between 7-9BTDC. Is this right or am I not reading this correctly. The reason I ask is that the car is a pig to start from cold but otherwise runs ok which I understand that this is the case when the timing is out. If this is the case at those values can I just carry out the dynamic adjustment as per Elsawin or is this too far to adjust this way. My car by the way is a 1998 Sharan 1.9 TDI AFN. Many thanks in advance.
  9. Hi everyone, the abs warning light on my 98 Sharan 1.9 tdi comes on when the ignition is turned on then goes out after the self check however when the car gets to 18mph it then comes back on. Having had the car checked with VAG COM it has come up with the error 01276 ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64) 16-10 Signal Outside Specification Intermittant. When the light first came on I visually checked the sensors and rings and found that the offside front ring was part cracked in a numer of places and it had been rubbing against the sensor. Am I looking at two faults here or is vag-com for some reason not flagging up the wheel sensor issue. The only good news is that the car has just passed its mot so at least that panic is over. Thanks everyone. Team Green.
  10. Thanks for replying so quickly guys, it's always good to go back in a situation like this armed with a good idea as to what the problem is so that they can't give you a load of bull. Cheers.
  11. Hi everyone, just had the cambelt changed on my 98 Sharan 110TDI AFN and since then the engine is very hard to start when cold especially in the morning. The glowplug light goes out pretty much straight away as though the engine is warm but takes an absolute age to start and when it does there is a great cloud of smoke so the fuel must be getting through ok. Is there anything that thy might have done to cause this or is it pure coincidence? Prior to going in there were no probs at all. Once the car is running then everything is fine with ecconomy of between 40mpg and 50mpg so it must be ok otherwise. It goes back to them next week but any suggestions / ideas would be greatly appreciated as I am worried that they may hit me with a bill that they might have caused. Cheers.
  12. Cheers SwFsnapper, I have been putting off fixing my ABS for sometime and as the mot is due in June then time was creeping up on me. Here's hoping for a dry weekend as guess what I will be doing?
  13. Hi everyone, I have got a few things that need fixing on my 98 Sharan SE 110 TDI and I am wondering if anyone can reccomend any car breakers in the Leeds area that deals with these motors? I have been in touch with a few but they say they never bother with these cars. Knowing how much the dealers want to charge me for the bits I will only use them as a very last resort. Cheers.
  14. The limp mode is the "full on prepare to be overtaken by cyclists and milk floats" kind but at least the mpg stays about the same as the aux heater doesn't work due to the terminals being corroded on the fuel metering pump for it and there is not enough to solder another on. Still love the car for all its faults though.
  15. Hi everyone, hope someone can help me with this problem with my 98 Sharan 110 TDI and engine code AFN. It is the usual turbo going into limp mode but only occurs when the engine is cold AND the outside air temp is freezing. It does not happen if the engine is warm or if the air temp is above freezing. I have checked all the other threads and followed the suggestions, split hoses etc but all seem ok. Apart from this the engine runs really well giving on average over 40mpg and when the engine is warm I do "air the pipes" on a regular basis. I have not been to the dealers yet to have the fault codes read yet just in case someone can give me some ideas. Thanks in advance.
  16. I had similar probs with my 1998 Sharan 1.9 TDI which I traced back to broken wires in the offside rear passenger door loom where it exits the door pillar and goes into the door. There were two wires which were broken and I repaired but I also saw that the insulation on some of the others is cracking so at some point I will be changing all of the wiring at this point. This was due to hapen soon but just been hit with a bill of
  17. Well not quite a total newbie as I found your site about 18 months ago but have finally decided to say hello. Got my 1998 Sharan 1.9 TDI 110 SE about two half years ago and have "nearly got it run in now" at 110000 miles. It is thanks to you all that I know my car has a booster heater, not working but project about to start, and a turbo that goes into limp mode in winter! Might be that it is not just me that hates the cold! Anyway, thankyou all for all for the great info on these cars and look forward to joining in in future. Take care and "THINK BIKE!".
