  1. Have attached some wiring info for you. Suggests motor is pins 2 and 3 in connector. Hope that this helps. George. speed_control_diag.pdf speed_control_plug.pdf
  2. Can't remember specifically what the VW tensioner looks like, but most cam belt tensioners are constructed of a bearing surrounded by a plastic running wheel which runs on and tensions the belt. History has shown that this plastic sometimes breaks up in extended use, (heat and environment effect) and while it can be perfectly ok, and may continue to function for many years/'000s or miles, the risk is still there that it might break up. If it does, it will most likely destroy the engine. For the relatively low cost of the tensioner, my advice would be to fit a new one each time you renew the belt. Although not applicable to you now, it is seriously worth getting a new water pump fitted when the 120,000mile belt change comes up as this is driven by the timing belt as well, and they are well known to fail. George.
  3. What usually happens is that the crimped connection into the main wiring loom gets hot in the process, oxidising the wires, and causing a poor connection into the main loom. Even with a new auxiuliary fusebox and cables from battery to alternator, mine started to melt the new box within a matter of days. I cut the main loom back about 4" before I found clean undamaged cable. I soldered a new piece of cable and terminal onto this and touch wood, it has been alright ever since. George. PS: If it is only 2 years old, it should still be under warranty, so a new wiring loom might be in order?
  4. Unless you enjoy changing gearboxes, I really cannot recommend that you would want a single mass flywheel. its main purpose is to damp out the power pulses going into the transmission. George.
  5. As you mention the wipers, check that the plastic trim panels below the wiper blades haven't come loose. The clips that hold them are a cr*p 2 piece design that often fail. A frequently noted 'problem' on here and when they are loose, they sound like the noise is coming from inside the dash. George.
  6. Kev, Good to hear that the clutch was OK and it all works without having to fit a new compressor like I did, and that I'm glad I didn't just take all the old bits straight down the scrappy after I'd finished repairing mine. George.
  7. IIRC, these engines run at a fuel pressure of 2.7 bar, so a 3 bar pump would be right. The pressure regulator on the fuel rail will tell you. 1.2 bar sounds like the fuel pump for old single point injection engines which ran at 1 bar. As insider says, check the part numbers on what you have bought. George.
  8. For Mk 1 Galaxies, Ford only list 3 springs: White, White/White and White/Yellow. Gets far more complex on Mk 2's. White seems to be only for 2.0L petrol, White/white seems to cover a whole variety of models/engines, while white/yellow seems to cover the diesel models and those with automatic transmission. If you have a look at VAG-Cat (available free to all online - very useful for exploded diagrams and VW part numbers), it suggests white/yellow is for heavy duty use as well. For the White/Yellow springs, Ford part no. is F1001402, VW Part No.7M0411105K. Ford charge
  9. I have attached a diagram showing the location of the sensor. You will probably find it easiest to see if you remove the undertray and look up from below, although it should be accessable from the top. As Sephulcrave says, it is at the gearbox end of the engine at the front, and at the same height as the crankshaft. Hope that this helps, George.
  10. Easy job to do - It sits on the front of the engine and is a simple matter of unplugging the electrical connector, unbolting the sensor and fitting new one. Bad news is that from a Ford dealer it costs a mind boggling
  11. You mean 5x112mm PCD! As has been said, many other VW group wheels will fit. Try an ebay search for 5x112 16". Usually throws something up. Rim offsets of 35 - 45mm are recommended for a Galaxy.
  12. The brush pack is available at VW dealers and isn't stupidly expensive. OK if you have a diesel or V6. Not sure if the 2.0/2.3 Ford engines use the same alternator or not. George.
  13. Straightforward to buy and fit. A genuine Ford detachable towbar from a Ford dealer would cost you.....
  14. A very easy to find out if you can't find the label is to go to a dealer and ask - with your chassis number fed into e-cat, it will give the build specification, including the colour. Last time I bought one from Ford it cost me
  15. Ref JKSpoffs question: Ford oil with FINIS 1343522 is for a 5L bottle of Formula S/SD oil, which is 505.01 standard. George.
  16. Main dealers: Pre Nov 1997 have limited availability. For November 1997 cars on, these should be available at Ford dealers and almost certainly from VW and SEAT as well, but be prepared to have to order and possibly wait for them. Ford price is
  17. As far as I can work out, the main cable from the aux fusebox going into the vehicle loom is initially spliced into 3x 6mm2 cables somewhere above the glovebox. These go variously to the main fusebox, the ignition switch and via more splices other places as well. I have never heard of anyone having problems with larger sized cables inside the car. Have a nice holiday, George.
  18. I'm pretty sure that the cable from battery to the auxiliary fusebox comes with the new fusebox. If the damaged cable is the one in the main wiring loom (goes off into main loom above nearside headlight) then surgery will be required. The main loom, of which this is a part, is over
  19. And as BJ said, make sure that the crimped terminal on the main loom is good, or you may find (as I did) that the new fusebox will be melting very soon. I had to cut about 4" from the main loom before I found non charred wire. Added a new piece of cable and a new terminal and has been ok since Dec '06. Heorge.
  20. Hi Mike, I found it at: http://www.vagcat.com/epc/cat/vw/SHA/2000/162/56/1893351/ It is in the body section, about half way down, "Additional Heater for coolant circuit D3W." Hope this helps. George
  21. Have had a quick look, and for the Mk1, Ford list nothing other than the complete heater assembly. For the Mk2, there is a kit-repair, part 1311390 at
  22. Sorry Kev, even the gearbox is a VW part. George
  23. Hi, The cd magazine for system without Sat Nav is available at a dealer - Part 3650892 at
  24. Yes. And it will be a lot quieter with it fitted as well.
