Must be a kids thing. Had exactly the same problem a while back on 97 Ghia X. As far as I can recall, the radio showed an error code. Cured it by disconnecting the wiring to the autochanger and reconnected it with the radio off. Switched back on and has worked fine for nearly 2 years now
