Hi people i'm here for help/advice once again, my 1998 S reg 1.9tdi galaxy has started to be exceptionally smokey shortly after starting, eg, start her up at work all's well go hundred yards down road, stop at lights for 1min or so, pull off and bloody hell there's one hell of a cloud and a trail behind me ! which tapers off, but almost every time i stop at a junction or lights the same happens again. There's also a stonger smell than norm when ticking over. thanks for any hrlp in advance as ever :unsure:

yep, actually doesn't seem to be quite as much power as there used to be, i just put it down to old age !

Good day to you all ! for some reason got in my Gal this morning to drive to work i noticed that once the turbo had spun up i could here a faint sound bit like rushin air from somewhere, i'm pretty thick when it comes to cars so just wondering if this is normal ? cheers in advance guys 'n gals 1.0 Tdi (98 plate)

thanks for the info, but it's a little more smoke than the usual i think, there never used to be this much and it's kinda embarrasing at times, the bit that puzzles me is that it doesn't seem to be every time either and i'm fairly sure its not the aux heater as i put my hand on the exhaust for that and that was cold !

Hi all, my 98 S plate 1.9 tdi galaxy has started smoking somewhat more than she used to the last few weeks, seems to be running ok though, but have noticed that if i leave her ticking over on the drive and the rev up now and again i get a nice black patch on the floor under the exhaust as well as the clouds of smoke, seems to be a grey/white colour to me. I hope you can give me a few suggestions as to what this could be and save the poor people that have to follow me !, i'm by no means a master of the mechanical world so any help is welcomed as my wallet is empty :lol: thanks Andy T

morning you lovely helpful people :o just lately once or twice and again this morning i fire up the old girl 1.9 tdi (98 S plate) and no matter how hard i put my foot down she only crawls up the revs and i struggle to get much over 40mph and then i'll stop somewhere for something get back in and she's right as rain ? Any/all help and suggestions (polite ones) all greatly appreciated, thanks guys 'n gals

Hi, peeps, don't all shout at me at once i know there are 1 or 2 threads already out there about these things !, I'm after a short simple answer really as i'm assuming my aux heater bursts into life in the cold weather as there's always a large cloud when me galaxy fires into life first thing on a nippy morn. HI, my drivers side heated mirror isn't anymore :D , the appears to be no voltage at the terminals behind the glass, the other mirror is fine, had a look at diagram but never trust those things, can anyone tell me if different sides use differnt contacts on the relay controlling these ? and which bloomin relay it is ? <_< cheers people By the way it's a 98 1.9 tdi ghia x

oh well, looks like it was the cranckshaft sensor in the end , just had that replaced and she seems to be back to her former glory ! yipeeeeeeee

hi, i got a flashing coil light on my 1.9 tdi and now sometimes when i pull up at a junction she cuts out, and at times is easy to stall (strange for a diesel ?) local garage claimed the speed sensor was duff, wrong ! changed it , still the same, they took it to ford and they think it might be fuel pump related but would rather it went to vw to be checked ! any ideas guys and gals ? thanks in advance ! i'm guessing they did clear the code as the flashing glowplug light has now gone out ? , also forgot to mention that the second time this happend on restarting the fuel gauge was reading low. after stopping and starting again under normal conditions it returned to correct reading ! dunno if this means anything ?, thanks for the suggestions so far , keep em coming please :blink:

hi people, my wonderful 1.9tdi mk1 galaxy keeps cutting out at junctions when i stop, ie foot on clutch, ecu reported speed sensor faulty had that changed, but still cutting out, any ideas ? all help appreciated !

Hi people, help please !!!!!! last 2 days me old gal has been stalling when warm not all the time but now and again pretty much as soon as my foot goes on the clutch at a junction :( and today it did it and wouldn't start again for about 2 mins. Now the glowplug light starts to flash after the engine has been running for about 30 seconds, i'm lead to believe this means i need to get the ecu checked out ? can anyone please enlighten me anymore than this, and avoid having to pay fraud for a plug in ? many thanks in advance for any help offered ! by the way, its a 98 1.9 tdi

not too sure about under tray, although did have cam belt go hence a bit of surgery a couple of months ago by a garage i'm never going back to as thay were not impressive to say the least, so they may not have put it back properly, will have to check, just bit more info, once i got to work and parked up i swung the steering from end to end a few times while stationary and it was fine, all help greatly appreciated guys(and gals) :blink:

Hi people, just used my galaxy (1.9td giha x 1998) to drive to work, and the steering on 2 occasions when turning left seemd to stop or at least become very stiff/tight for a brief second !, scary to say the least. It was raining quite a lot but didn't go through any major water as far as i'm aware !, and the trip is only about a mile and a half !, Any help from you wonderful people here would be greatly appreciated, (pretty please) :blink:

when i turn on the aircon after a recent regas and pipe replacement there's a kinda grating noise sounds a bit like fan baldes scraping, maybe ?, hard to describe really, everything seems to work ok though. the sound does vary/speed up-slow down with engine revs too ! , any help guys 'n gals ? Hi folks, My Right hand heated mirror no longer works, for some reason i'm only getting around 0.5 Volts out of the brown and white wires to the element whereas the left hand side gives me a full 12+Volts. I'm no expert at reading car wiring diagrams, but as far as i can tell the only difference between the left and right hand side mirror heating is the earth point . Guys and gals any help here greatly appreciated ! ;)
