Hope you resolved the problem but mine did this and turned out to be a door switch.

Thanks BrianH Checked the lead which all looks good. Really intermittent so i am guessing a poor earth or broken wire somewhere . Will keep looking.

Hi all My alarm has been randomly going off and after checking all the door switches I found the one under the bonnet was broken. Does anyone know how to remove this switch and if it's the same as the door switches. Cars a 2001 mk11 2.3 Ghia. Thanks

Try moving the peg a bit towards you slightly,its held on with two torx bolts. Mine did this when something fell in front of the latch when I slamed the tailgate and it must have moved the latch/peg thing slightly. Good luck

This happened to me and I found that the glove box light was on all the time as the switch had come loose. Good luck

Ok, rear washer stopped working. I checked the usual culprit coming undone beside the passenger seat but all was well so I unplugged it pulled the stalk,motor went but no water. Blockage I thought but then I found the broken plastic washer pipe just short of the passenger strut top. Now before I start taking everything apart does anyone know the route the rest of the pipe will take to the passenger footwell connector. regards Sean MK11 2.3 ghia 2001

Took me ages to find out why my battery kept draining and eventually found the switch to the glovebox light had fallen away leaving the light on all the time. Worth a look. Good luck .

Have you changed the idler pulley as well. I did both the tensioner and idler pulley on my 2.3 and all was ok after that. Good luck

It was in second gear when the bolt came off the selector and went through the gearbox, hence a replacement gearbox ? The replacement box hasn't gone in yet, wondering if I will have problems getting the old box off. Thanks

Ok ready to swap gearbox but old one stuck in 2nd gear. Does anyone know if this will cause problems getting it out.

I had exactly the same problem and turned out to be the door switch for the interior lights. It had lost its rubber cover and whenever I went over a bump all the interior lights would flash without the door open sign on the dash. Not sure if the thickness of the rubber cover would have caused it but a new switch resolved everything. Like everyone else has said I would also check the wires one by one as you will find some breaking or broken. Good luck

As I'm replacing the gearbox does anyone know if a six speed box will simply bolt on ? The old one was a five speed

Update, had the under-tray off and found the answer that I really didn't want to see, one mangled bolt, two pieces of shrapnel and a hole in the gearbox housing. Now need to find and fit a replacement box

Thanks Yes stuck in second gear and the gearstick is completely floppy. Oh well lets recover from a long drive today as I know what I will be doing tomorrow.

Just been to Cornwall and back in my 2001 2.3 mk11 and it went like a dream. Got home, popped to the shops to get milk and gearstick went floppy in second and i think it has shed gearbox oil all over the place. I have read posts on the gear linkage but wanted your thoughts before I start to strip the car down to investigate. Thanks

Hi My mk11 2.3 ghia 2001 alarm keeps going off and there is no pattern to it. Both footwells are bone trying as are under the front seats. There are no other electrical gremlins and all works well. Any clues or help where to start appreciated. Thanks

I had water coming in and it turned out to be a rubber grommet where the bonnet release cable goes through the bulk head that had come away. Might help . Good luck

Hi all I will be polite in this post but some so and so broke into my Gal and damaged the locks on both front doors so that they will not turn and also pulled out and broke the ignition barrel. Called insurance company and they have said its a right off because of the ignition barrel. Its a 2001 Y plate Gal 2.3 Ghia. Today I put the key in the hole left by the so and so, and turned the ignition with a screwdriver and the car started straight away. So chip in key and transponder still work. Question is, can I just buy an ignition barrel from Fords or is it not that easy to fix ?

Hi all Does anyone know what number the fuse is for the cruise control on my mk2 2.3 ? I've looked at the fuse panel diagram in the car but can not locate it. thanks

Hi all My mk2 2.3 ghia started chirping a while back. The car has done 101k and so I changed the tensioner, idler pulley and belt but still a screaching noise from start. Looking at the power steering pump pulley the belt is chattering about and a squirt of WD on the air con compressor makes the noise go away for seconds then it comes back. Also the belt was hanging off the old tensioner by 2/3 ml and does so with the new tensioner. Now its cold , late and dark outside so before I start tinkering again tomorrow I thought I would ask for help. I am now down to a duff new tensioner , a new air con compressor/clutch , power steering pump or does my car have one of those alternator clutch pulleys ( 7M5 903 029. 120amp) ? Any words or wisdom would be welcome . Many thanks Sean

Hi all The rear passenger door to my 2.3 mk11 ghia 2001 has given up locking by the central locking and also the chrome handle inside just flaps about. The door shuts and the door handle on the outside works but simply won't lock. The wiring in the gaitor appears all ok so I suspect something inside has broken. Has anyone had this happen to them if so any help before I rip of the door card would be appreciated. regards

Hi I have a 2001 MK2 ghia 2.3 that just recently started playing up. When I get in the car and put the key in and turn it nothing happens. I unlock the car by the remote, put the key in, turn it and all the lights go on and then go that extra notch and nothing. Now not sure if i'm being lucky or not but if I tap the key around the barrell area a couple of times then put the key in and try again it starts up ??????? The pats chip is in the key fob and not rattling around and no other issues or symptoms,. Any suggestions welcome. Cheers
