My car being a 99 has MK2 wiring to a degree I have since found out and therefore doesn't have the box under the seat. The tube for the rear washer was not apart but I believe looked like it could have been leaking as one side of the joint was quite loose ... now super glued. the channel in which the wiring loom sits was full of water the cable loom is now hanging outside of it drying off .... still have to check the joint near the passenger seat for corrosion. As things are drying out the central locking is working as normal now and if I try the window switches I get a screechy sort of noise but the windows won't move: I get the feeling there is now some power getting to them but not enough to run the motors. The inside of the drivers door gater was quite damp, slightly wet even so water may have got in there which would not surprise me with the amount of heavy rain we have had. so if water has gathered at the bottom then it will be causing some problems ?

My v reg 1999 MK1 has developed an electrical fault ....sometimes the central locking works and sometimes it doesn't. It is really sporadic it can work 10 times then drop out ... or vise versa. Sometimes turning the key back and forth will bring it back to life. Also the Electric Windows have stopped working altogether but the electric wing mirrors work normally and I believe they are on the same fuse n°2 Previous to this I have been having problems with my windscreen wipers ... regardless of the setting the were going really fast. On interval Single wipe, Screen Wash and Constant normal and Constant Fast .... all the same speed ..... fast. This seems to have fixed itself for now and all working as it should ... I am pretty convinced that water has got in somewhere .... but where? With the massive amount of rain we have been having recently there maybe damp in the circuits somewhere I just would like a few tips on where to start looking. I had a similar problem a few years ago on my BMW 3 series and it turned out to be a corroded block of earth connections under the passenger carpet. Had a look under the carpets both sides and the aren't any connectors as the cables run down the sides of the sills. There is however water in the passenger side footwell. Any tips at all would be very welcome Cheers

Clutch Slip Perhaps

Well after several weeks of driving my clutch slip problem seems to have cured itself. So maybe Brian was right and the clutch bearing may have been a bit sticky. -
Mk1 Temp Sensor Location

Thanks Seatkid I had already found it after much searching it is hidden behind some sort of filter that connects to one of the air hoses. I will post Photos for others to use when I change it. -
Oil Leak, But Where From?
Witchmaster replied to Russats's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Most older diesels weep a bit of oil from somewhere, I the old days the best way to find out where from was to steam clean the engine and then run it for a while and it was possible to see where oil was leaking from. These day this should be done with extreme caution as there are now so many sensors around the engine and if water gets into any of these you could end up with more problems than just losing a bit of oil. As mentioned above one possibility is the rocker cover gasket which is a very easy fix. Sometimes the steel rocker covers can warp very slightly too, even when bolted tight but if you know where they are leaking a gentle tap with a hammer and screwdriver in the leaky area can fix this. -

I have checked fluid level which is at normal. However since doing so I have had no more clutch slips at al ? In total it only happened 3 times in all but I will keep my eye on things. l -
Mk1 Temp Sensor Location
Witchmaster replied to ahearder's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have now just bought a Haynes manual so I know that the above sensor is for the electric cooling fan and not the water temp sensor which is shown in the Haynes manual. I am still not sure exactly where it is as the pic in the manual is not that clear. It states in the manual that on petrol models it is situated underneath the thermostat and shows a pic. It does not state in the text where it is situated on diesel models and just shows a pic. Can anyone tell me exactly where it is ? -
Immobiliser Led Stopped Working
Witchmaster replied to Witchmaster's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
This turned out to be quite strange. If I turn my CD player off at the switch on the player, the immobiliser doesn't work when I lock the car. If i leave the CD player turned on at the switch on the player, the immobiliser works fine. In either case the CD player stops as soon as I pull the keys out of the ignition. It is no longer a problem and I can live with it as at least I know how it works. -
Which one have you looked at ? The Galaxy TDi engine is a VW Sharan engine. The top plastic part of my tube is broken and I need a replacement so I am going to get the one I suggested and at just a couple of quid delivered it must be worth the risk.
-
Do you need the whole tube or just the plastic top guide part ... mine has broken so I am looking and I found this one on Ebay it is for a VW Sharan but it is basically the same engine. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Passat-Polo-Sharan-Vento-MEYLE-Oil-Dipstick-Guide-Tube-Funnel-/261702106882?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&fits=Car+Make%3AVW%7CModel%3ASharan&hash=item3ceea93f02

Temp Gauge Reading 1.9tdi Mk1
Witchmaster replied to zorgman's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I can't find the thermostat location. Despite searching this forum and getting results of where it should be but when I look for it on my car there is nothing. Also I am a bit confused as to the location of the Water temp sensor. There is a hose coming out of the top right of the engine that connects to the top left of the radiator. Half way down this there is a sensor. Is this the one I am looking for? -

Clutch Slip Perhaps
Witchmaster replied to DaveJH's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have an invoice from the service history of the car which say that the Duel Mass Flywheel clutch and slave cylinder were replaced 45k miles ago. I also think I may have read somewhere that 1999 models have many of the Mk2 specs. Brake fluid? what has that to do with the clutch? -
Clutch Slip Perhaps
Witchmaster replied to DaveJH's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
My recently aquired 1999 TDi has slipped on the clutch twice on different occasions. Both times in 4th gear only and only once each time pretty early on in starting a journey. After which drives fine with no problems. Clutch? Duel Mass Flywheel? slightly leaky slave cylinder? -
Hi to everyone. I have just joined as I have recently bought a 1999 Galaxy Zetec 1.9 Tdi returning to Ford after several years driving different makes. I previously owned A 2.0is Sierra, a Transit 2.5 Diesel mini bus and a Transit 2.0 mini bus. I loved them all so good to be back with another Ford.

Temp Gauge Reading 1.9tdi Mk1
Witchmaster replied to zorgman's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have just bought a 1999 Zetec 1.9 TDI and on driving home (120 miles mainly motorway) I noticed my temp gauge doesn't go much above the start of the normal area on the gauge. I had this years ago on a Sierra and it turned out to be the sensor/probe. I see here that some say it could also be the thermostat not opening correctly. Is there a way to be sure of which it is ? The sensor or the Thermostat ? -
Immobiliser Led Stopped Working
Witchmaster replied to Witchmaster's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
When I bought the car there was no CD player. It had been removed. I fitted one out of my old car, Today I pulled it out again and pushed it back in and must have dislodged something as it was not turning off properly. After turning it off at the switch (not just ignition) the immobiliser is back working normally so I think I know where I have to look to sort the problem I will have to check the CD Player wiring. Thanks for your help. -
I have just bought a 1999 Galaxy Zetec 1.9 TDi and is running fine however there were a few bulbs blown passengers roof light , fog light rear nearside, fog light front offside. Since I have replaced the bulbs the Immobiliser LED has stopped working when I lock the car, the car starts and runs and the central locking is working. Any Ideas ?
