  1. Hi I bought a set a few weeks ago from my local Ford Dealer Sandicliffe at Loughborough for my 2003 Mk2. They are not ford ones but are made by an Austrailian company and cost about
  2. Hi Had the same problem and it was a vacume pipe come adrift. It was the one which goes from the big black pipe next to the battery (goes from the air intake to intercooler) down to the turbo waste gate. It should be attached next to the air intake temperature sensor and run to the turbo. If this is detached or leaking the turbo waste gate will not operate properly and cause these symptoms. Worth checking Hope this helps Andy Met
  3. Thanks Chromedome, much appreciated, I will let everyone know the outcome. Andy Met
  4. Thanks for all the replys folks, it's got full ford service history so I will try writing to them. Don't suppose by any chance anyone has the address? Thanks again Andy Met
  5. Hi Just had first problem with my new Galaxy (2003 115bhp 1.9tdi). Started of as bite point on the clutch ocasionally changing position, then slight clutch judder, then clutch sticking down and finally complete loss of drive. All this happened over a period of a week while it was waiting to go in. When stripped down cause was slave cylinder leaking which then caused the friction plate to break up into pieces, no apparent damage on pressure plate. I'm really mad with it as my mark one did 166000 before the clutch was was changed. So the question I would like to ask is has anyone else had early clutch failure on a Mk2 or have I just been unlucky? The warranty had run out but I managed to get
  6. Hi Had one of these for about three years. It works on all TDI's up to about 2004 at which time they changed the vehicle to a different protocol (Whatever that means!) How it works, you switch on the ignition and plug it it, it reads the error codes three times, after the third time it deletes them. You get a book which cross references the code to the fault and there is a web site which cross references the Gendon code to a ford code. Paid
  7. Thanks, I've looked in my mk 1 Manual and found the sensor on the gearbox, it looks a simple job of unscrewing the old one and putting the new one in. Does anyone know if it is in the same place on the 6 speed gearbox or have they put it somewhere else? Thanks Andy
  8. Hi Just put the code reader on my new 2003 TDI and it showing just 1 error. I cleared it and it came back so looks like a small problem. Error code is 17948 and relates to vehicle speed signal, says signal is too large. Any experts have any ideas? Doesn't show any problems when driving so I'm interested to know what is causing it and if it is doing any harm. I think sometimes maybe ignorence is bliss!! Thanks Andy
  9. Thanks for that, I've found it! If anybody is interested, I was in Halfords and the oil for the Mk2 Tdi which is normally
  10. Hi Guys Just changed my Mk1 TDI for a 2003 Mk2. Nice chap at Gendon said my fault code reader would on the Mk2 and I wouldn't need to invest in VAG COM just yet. Took the ash tray out to find the socket like the mk1 but it doesn't seem to be there. Probably me thats blind but where have they hidden it on the Mk 2? Thanks Andy Met
  11. Hi Going to fit cruise contol on my 2003 Tdi 115 BHP when I get it. Looked at all the posts on a search and would be grateful if someone who's done it could confirm what I think I've got to do. Fit new indicator stalk with C/C switch on it (
  12. Hi, I do loads of towing with my 1996 1.9tdi 90bhp. When towing up hills try to keep it in the highest gear possible but if the revs start dropping away change down. If you are on a long climb and need to use third gear take it easy, tuck in behind a lorry and be patient. You will find that on long climbs the temperature gauge will start to go right of centre. On extreme climbs (7 miles up the French Alps with 1400kg of van on and a temperature of 35 deg!!) if the gauge starts to approach the red open the windows turn both heaters and fans on full and breathe a sweaty sigh of relief as the gauge plunges back down. Hope this helps
  13. Hi Can i be nosey and ask how much it was for the new engine to be fitted and the mileage on the old one. Mines done 180,000 and I'm just trying to get an idea how much longer it will last
  14. Thanks Matt spot on. Anyone with a Mk1 could do with checking the wires in the boot on the right side, what I found was horrendous. One wire broken and insulation cracked exposing bare wires on half the othe cables. Soldering iron, link wire and a roll of amalagamating tape sorted it. Once again thanks Matt
  15. Hi Guys Just coming up for MOT and the number plate lights are not working (MK1 TDI). Checked the bulbs and number 3 fuse, any other likely suspects before I start ripping panels off to check the wiring continuity? Many Thanks Andymet
  16. Just need to change the clock spring unit under the steering wheel then reset the error message. Units are about
  17. Spare wheel carrier finally gave up after 10 years. Tried the internet for ford spares and all were coming in at around
  18. Went to ford and they charged
  19. My 1996 1.9TDI lasted 163,000 miles, its now done 171,000 and still has original exhaust!
  20. Hi This pipe controls the Turbo waste gate, if its disconnected or leaking you will experince the turbo dropping out and loss of power when the engine is under load, ie going uphill especially towing.
  21. Thanks for that Andy
  22. Hi Fitted a new airbag contact unit at the weekend and while it was stripped down I tried to find the wire for cruise control which I am going to fit next (Car is a Mk1 Tdi) Acording to the various posts it should be tucked up somewhere near the switches but I could not find it. Can someone who has retro fitted cruise control please tell me if there is a separate wire and plug or is the wiring to the switches all combined. If there is a separate wire please tell me where it is. Thanks in advance Andy Met
  23. Hi Got a fault code just appeared on my Gendon reader it is 020f which is air inlet temp sensor. Looked in haynes manual and it says something about this being combined with a pressure sensor. Does anyone know if this sensor is a combined one and is it as simple as changing it to cure the fault. The only difference in running I have notice is that the tickover is very slightly higher until the engine has fully warmed up. Car is a 1996 90bhp 1.9TDI. Thanks Andymet
  24. Hi I had the same problem with the flashing light, I checked the brake light switch with a mutimeter (Its the black one at the top not the blue one that dumbo here checked to start with!) and it seemed ok but was obviously failing when current was passing through it as changing the switch for a new one cured the problem. For the sake of
