Sorry for another post, but I cant find the edit option. I have taken the fibre pipe off the end of the fuel pump and spun the engine over and diesel comes out, so looks like its electrical. Could the imobiliser be at fault?

BAH!!! Treated my galaxy to a new battery.....and now it wont start again!!! Just turns ovewr and over again, but wont start! HELP !!

Thanks for the help guys. I HOPE i may have found the answer... it looks like the battery was running a bit flat, possibly causing the starter to turn very slightly slower.(not that I could tell) When the engine is hot, it looks like the ECU requires a higher minimum cranking speed (yes, Ive got a 110BHP) and the engine would not start. leaving the car alone for 10 mins,I guess it cools slightly, requiring a slower minimum speed and hey presto, it starts. Topping up the battery and charging it up seems to have done the trick. Starter turns faster and car starts warm and cold. Thanks again for all the replies, much appreciated. Steve

Hi guys. I have just seen this thread after posting one on exactly the same problem that I have got. I have the beeping ignition....most I have had is 3. The car (110 tdi) always started straight away when cold, but needed to be left for 10 mins or so when warm before she would fire up. ...as previously mentioned, very embarassing at the petrol station, paper shop etc. Now the car is struggling to start at all. Now, Im no expert, so please can anyone answer this? A),,,if I disconnect the temp sensor and the car still will not start, does that indicate a dodgy starter or battery (even though it appears Ok?) B....where is this sensor? I have disconnected the plug that is located above the starter, in a line between the fuel fliter and the battery compartment. Is the the correct plug? Thanks again.

Is that the coolant temp one? -
Hi guys, Hopefully someone may be able to help. My Mk1 TDI (110bhp) wont start. Initially this happened when the car was warm, but now it wont start at all. The engine seems to spin perfectly, but wont fire. I have also noticed that after trying to start it, the ignition beeps at me 3 or 4 times!! Is the EMC trying to give me a clue what's wrong?? Any help would be great. Thanks again guys. Steve

Warm Engine Wont Start.
westie replied to westie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks for the quick reply. Its strange, as the car seems perfect...once its going!! The main worry is Mrs and 4 kids in the car, which then wont start. Guess its another one of those "galaxy kwerks" !! Thanks again -
Hi Guys, I haven't been on here for some time now and was wondering if anyone could help. My 1.9 tdi (1999) wont start when its warm.....but left for 10 mins, it fires up fine. Once running, it seems to run perfectly.....just hope I dont stall!! Any ideas as to the possible problem? Many Thanks

My money is on the alternator belt tensioner being the issue. Fairly common for the bearing on these to go and squirting wd40 in this direction will make it go quiet for a while.

Electric Window Problems.
westie replied to westie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks Nik....I will have a play. -
Hi. I havent posted on here for a while, but Ive got a problem that I wondered if anyone could help with. The wife drove home from work yesterday with the windows wide open ( ) and said they had been down since she put the key in the lock and turned it the "wrong" way. I know that the windows will open and close via the key, but now I cant get the windows to move back up via the door switches. The only way I can get the windows to go back up, is to put the key in the door lock and lock the car doors. I can lower the windows using the door switches, but again, they will only go back up again via the key in the lock. Please can anyone help? Thanks. Steve , 110 1999 TDI

Hi, can anyone help me? Is it an easy job to replace the light behind the rev counter?...if so, has anyone got any tips on how to carry out this, or should I put it into my local garage? (they've given an estimate of about

A word of warning. ......I have had 2 Galaxy's (both Diesels) and both have had numerous small, but niggling electrical problems, including the brake light switch failure. Thankfully, the flashing glow plug and failed bulb indicator alerted me to the problem.. If anyone has to change this switch, first they need to make sure that they know if its a 2 pin or a 4 pin type, my 1996 GLX had a black and blue switch, both were 2 pin, but my 1999 Ghia X only has one switch, which is a black 4 pin one. Secondly, as Tazzy has explained, the removal of the facia is pretty easy, but the switch removal is a bit more difficult. Not only is the interference fit very tight, but the metal bracket for the top screw in the fuse compartment is right above the switch. More importantly, this bracket (in my experience) has not been de- burred properly and can cause some very nasty cuts if you are not careful. Please bare this in mind, if (or should that be when!), you have to tackle this job.

How Long Did Your Original Battery Last?
westie replied to seatkid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I seem to remember another topic about battery life on this forum. Ive had 2 Galaxy's. None were brand new, but both still had the origonal battery in them. The first one lasted about 4 years from new when, with the car having done about 60,000 miles, it just packed up. The Galaxy I've got now is the last of the "old" style ones, a late 1999 model. Last week the battery just died again, without warning. My local shop showed my a Bosch one which wasnt the same size or power as the origonal. They then got the listed alternative, which was the Varta one. This one was virtually the same size as the origonal, but an 85ah not a 90ah. It seems to work ok and hopefully aint gonna blow my car up, as it was listed as the correct one in the dealers manual. I reckon you did well if you got over 5 years out of your battery. (by the way, both my cars were diesel. Im not sure if the petrol ones last longer) -
Hi, Dont know if this may help, but I had the same problem on my old Galaxy (1.9 tdi) As well as the brake lights not coming on until the end of the travel, they also used to stick on. Now, it didnt have cruise control, but I changed the BLUE switch and the problem went away. :D

Thanks Peter.........by the look of several other posts on this forum, its a common problem...

I'm off to order a new spring.......Peter, can let me know how easy it is to change, when you've done it?
-
Look like this switch could be to blame then. Many thanks for the help.

Hi, Well, Ive sat on the sidelines long enough, so its about time I joined the forum. I am now on my 2nd Galaxy. I did have a 90bhp TDI glx and Ive now got a 110 BHP Ghia X. I have got 4 children so I needed a people carrier and I found the Ford/VW/Seat sisters to be the best by far..........BUT........ I have found the electrics to be very fragile. I have seen posts on the forum about interior lights, brake lights etc etc not working, and I have had the same problems with both my Galaxy's. Another problem that both of them have had, is with the air bag light not going off. My local dealer said that it may be something to do with the seat belt tensioner (?)... I have fixed many of the niggly faults with advice from this forum........anyone got any ideas on this one, as I havent seen it mentioned before?? Many thanks.
