it just had a full service plus all the filters but if i change to 5w 40 will change the filter again just to be sure

i had put 10w 40 semi synthetic in but found the handbook and it states 5w 40 and thats i think fully synthetic so i would need to change the oil filter to i am only doing this as i did an oil change a couple o hundred miles ago and the warning stop oil pressure check oil came up on the dash so i thought maybe wrong oil or maybe the oil pressure sensor any idea to where that is situated so i can get a part number of it thanks again

thanks should it be synthetic or semi as the 5w 40 is fully synthetic and the 10w 40 was semi synthetic

hi guys how do i change the coolant on the mk2 2.8 as i want to renew the antifreeze is there a drain tap or do i disconnect a hose thanks

so am down to the last few jobs on my mk2 2.8 ghia auto,engine has a small misfire so decided to change the spark plugs but they are well rusted in how do i get them out without breaking ,i thought soak them for a day in wd40( is there a better penetrating oil ) and then take it up to temp and try and slowly try to crack them open or has anybody got a better idea.I had the the car at a mechanic friend and he didnt want to touch for fear of breaking them cheers Iain

forgot to mention are all 2.8 alternators the same through the years for a mk2

hi guys am looking for a new alternator for my mk2 2.8 galaxy (2000)and found one but its says from 2001 to 2006 did they change in 2001 if not any ideas if it could fit mine thanks in advance iain

I've had my galaxy mk1 for about 6 years and the airbag light has been on the whole time and have had no problems

I had similar problems on my mk1 galaxy it turned out to be an ecu module in the well under the passenger seat .if you look under the front passenger seat theres a sliding panel pull it out and you should see an ecu module,i think it controls central locking maybe even windows as they seem to be linked in some way .On mine water had got in under the seat and got into the module easy peesy to replace i managed to get a second hand one on ebay for £25 .i opened up the old one and gave it a clean but the inside had to much water damage (had oxidised) hope this helps

as i was working on the car tonight i noticed (i took of the undertray intially to look at the starter) the bottom corner of the radiator where the bottom hose comes out has a tiny weep can this fixed in place or will i need another radiator any ideas guys

yes i see what you mean ,i donnt normally buy used parts for the same reason as you stated and definately would not buy brakes steering etc ,its just seems a lot so jury out that one but as it happens i found some more purely by chance stumbled upon something some one said on an other forum about a blown fuse and i had a blown fuse (30amp) i had enquired about this in an earlier thread but nobody seemed to have any ideas so anyway took out good and replaced with blown fuse and hey presto the air pump doesnt work so i left it like that as far as i know that blown fuse has been like that since god knows when and its passed its mots so will leave till next mot and if it fails then will worry about it then thanks all

ah ha after a little bit of rooting around i found the cause of the noise its the secondary air pump and after talking to the missus she finally decided to tell me oh that noise that only happens when its cold it runs for a minute after start up as it should except it loud so i wonder if that means its terminal if it broke would the car still work/go properly its going something to do with speeding /the heating of the gases for the cat had a look on thief bay and bloomin heck costs more than the car is worth 500 plus quid ,then found one for 100 but to be honest the car aint worth spending that much on such a part so might go second hand i wonder if its one part fits all or do i have to get one just to fit a 2.0 dohc any thoughts thanks

from my knowledge the clutch release bearing makes a more grumbly noise but this sound high pitch as if its going like the clappers then releases /disengages or something then winds down to being quiet ,so maybe something on the starter is sticking wil take out and give a good clean then bench test it

its not from the pulley side but from the opposite side its not the waterpump as thats on the pulley but i think the starter is on the side thats makingthe noise so maybe its the starter sticking will have a look tomorrow looks an easy enough job to take of thanks again

hi guy ,i started my 1997 2.0 dohc mk1 galaxy the other day and a loud high pitched whine came from the engine it lasts about a minute then you can hear it kind of winding down then its all quiet the car runs fine no probs whatsoever when i checked where its coming from, as you stand in front of the car its coming from the right hand side of the engine is that where the waterpump is its the only thng i can think of but am not sure if anybody has any ideas thanks iain

i think my fuel consumption is getting worse or maybe the fuel getting more expensive am not sure .New plugs ,panel filter would/might help is there anything else i can change /renew which might help .I donnt drive the car much as its the wifes ( i drive it back and forth to mots etc )i also think its a little down on power not by a lot but i noticed it especially on hills having to change down more its a 1997 2.0 dohc mk1 galaxy with 130,000 miles cheers
