Mk Ii Tdi Auto Fuel Consumption
chrislloydie replied to tahirti3's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Ours has done 162k miles. On a motorway run of 60 miles, it achieves 39 - 41 mpg. This is sat at 70mph, usually with cruise control on. -
Tailgate Adjustment
chrislloydie replied to chrislloydie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I've had it as far forward and as far backward as possible and several positions in between. Still does the fault. I'm starting to lean towards an electrical problem with the catch. Gonna investigate the wiring and look for damaged wires. -
Tailgate Adjustment

The boot handle seems to work fine. It whirs when pulled and disengages the latch fine. No problems opening the boot. Just closing the bloody thing. -
Tailgate Adjustment
chrislloydie replied to chrislloydie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Ok. Problem has now got worse. Boot rarely closes now. I've moved the striker around but it hasn't helped. When you close the boot it's like the latch doesn't close around the striker pin. So the boot is just resting in place. Obviously it's not really driveable like this and not secure. Messing with the central locking doesn't seem to help. The catch seems to move freely enough when pressed with a screw driver. I've greased it all up. I'm wondering if a break in a wire in the tailgate loom would be a culprit but not sure how it would cause my problem. Any help please cos my Mrs is now telling me just to get rid of the car! -
Parking Sensors Fault
chrislloydie replied to Lark yelseb's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Very easy, especially the rear ones which can be accessed by lying under the rear of the car. They unclipped from bumper then unplug electrical connector. If you find a faulty one, check along the wiring for breaks. Or swap sensors over like I said earlier to rule out broken wiring. -
Tailgate Adjustment
chrislloydie replied to chrislloydie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Yeah that's the striker I meant. But my galaxy has a aluminium piece of trim on the tailgate which the striker pokes through. How does this piece of trim come off? Seems well and truly stuck in place. -
Been having a few problems with the tailgate recently. Sometimes when closing the tailgate, it will catch and close properly first time. Other times it takes 10 or more attempts to close it properly. Often needing a heavy slam to make it catch and close. I'm wondering if the door latch pin needs adjusting slightly to help the tailgate catch. But I can't see anyway to adjust it. Anyone know if the latch pin can be adjusted and how? Thanks

Parking Sensors Fault
chrislloydie replied to Lark yelseb's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Does your car have front and rear sensors? Do you have vcds lite? That'll tell you exactly which sensor is faulty. If not, you can listen carefully to each sensor and hear a very quiet ticking. Any that aren't ticking are faulty. Just one faulty sensor will stop the whole system working. -

Mk1 To Non Starter
chrislloydie replied to chrislloydie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Nope. Battery fully charged mate. He has dash lights on. But that's it. No cranking, no clicking like when battery is flat. Just nothing. If it's the pats chip, would the car still crank but just not turn over? -
My brother in law has a mk1 tdi. He lives a fair distance away so been trying to diagnose his problem over the phone. Car was working fine up til one day last week when it wouldn't start. Wouldn't even attempt to turn over. He told me he had dropped his key and it had come apart. My response was that he'd probably lost the chip from the key and therefore the car was immobilised. Sure enough the chip was missing. However, he has since found the chip.and refitted to the key. But the car still will not attempt to turn over. So, anyone know what might be wrong? Thanks

Auxiliary Heater Questions
chrislloydie replied to Yozza's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Can anyone tell me how they attached the copper wires on the brushes to the coiled wire in the pump? My old ones seemed to be soldered together. How has everyone else attached them? -

I've got vcds lite. Scanned the aux heater and found no faults logged. Will have to investigate further by playing with vcds. -
Auxiliary Heater

I'll check for a sensor. Definitely doesn't shut down, had it running even at end of an hours journey. No temperature lock out faults when hooked up to vcds. -
Auxiliary Heater
chrislloydie replied to chrislloydie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hmm. Might have answered my own question. If the warm coolant is not being circulated to the aux heater, it'll still think the coolant is cold/warm and continue to run. Still stumped on why it comes on above 10 degrees tho. Unless the temp sensor on the windscreen wiper arm is duff too! -
Auxiliary Heater
chrislloydie replied to chrislloydie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
That should have been 13 degrees not 19 degrees. -
Been trying to get my auxiliary heater working properly. Originally, I found the fuse had been removed by the previous owner. After replacing the fuse and checking vcds for faults, the heater now starts up and runs with no smoke. I have noticed that the run on pump is not working at all so I've ordered some new brushes to fit. However, I think I've found the reason why the fuse had been removed. The heater comes on no matter what the outside temperature, I've had it come on with 19 degrees outside. The heater also runs constantly, even when the engine is up to temperature. This is a pain on long journeys and must affect the mpg. So, anyone know why it's running like this? vcds lite is showing no errors. So I may just have to pull the fuse again.

Lower Engine Stabilizer
chrislloydie replied to chrislloydie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Replaced the engine mount today. Unfortunately the new mount seems to leave pretty much the same amount of engine movement as the old mount. : ( The chirping noise I referred to in an earlier post seems to come from airbox. -
